The Hidden Platform
It was a normal weather for London, Cynthia Beaufort supposed. Normal as in the sense that it was not good, terrible even. Rain poured down on King’s Cross’s roof and Cynthia could not help but grimace. She hated Britain’s weather. She sighed heavily, only to find her mother giving her a stern look. Cynthia held the ticket in her hand. There still was some time before departure.
“Come, daughter. We must prepare to arrive at the platform soon,” her mother said, lips pursed. “It is strange, how the Hogwarts students travel. Why, in my school, we would ride carriages pulled by flying horses to school!”Her mother exclaimed. Her father touched a hand on Cynthia’s shoulder. “Then let me show you the way,” her father put in, “I was a Ravenclaw myself you know.” She laughed under her breath.
Cynthia held her breath and charged for the wall.
Cynthia must admit that the platform was … grand, if she would like to put it that way. A reassuring hand fell on her shoulder. Her father’s hand. She turned to him, “Did you feel like this when you first arrived at the platform? It is not quite that splendor compared to the manor, but still, it is quite wonderful, is it not?” Then her mother appeared into view. “You are quite right, daughter. I think it magnificent. I’ve never been here before, if you could believe it.”Her mother smiled at her.
Then, she pulled Cynthia to a corner and her father followed. Her voice became serious as ever, “You’re a good girl, Cynthia. Hold your head up high.” Cynthia complied. “Good, that was just what I wanted. Hold yourself like a pureblood. You know the wizarding world, do you not? Are you surprised by this at all?” Cynthia shook her head no. “Oui yes, oui. Now, remember to make a good first impression. This often starts on the Express. What will you say if someone wants to sit with you?” “Yes please, I don’t mind it at all. Would you like to sit next to me or opposite to me?” “Tres bien!Very good! Be polite, especially to the professors, but the students, too.”
His father laughed, “Relieved after the lecture?”His voiced turned serious, “Finally, I have expectations too, daughter, get into Ravenclaw. It is a wonderful house. It was my house, afterall. We know you can do it!” “Oui!”
And she relieved after that lecture, she really was. Cynthia waved farewell to her parents and boarded the train and, ultimately, boarded her new life.

A heart as cold as ice; a mind as hard as stone.
