Mum, pleaaaaaaaaase. Pretty pleaaaaaase. Solo

Klaus had a pretty good childhood. His parents were close to each other and to him, and they were both highly educated people. He attended Muggle primary school when he was a child, to help him learn about the world. But one thing he missed out in his childhood? Having a pet. He had always wanted some kind of animal companion, and asked his parents incessantly for one. A dog, his father argued, would track mud into the manor and bark at all hours of the night. A cat, his mother argued, would get into her instruments and damage them. And a rat! Both his parents told him he'd lose it within a week, being as forgetful as Klaus was. But still, their well-thought-out arguments never swayed him.

Since coming to Hogwarts, he had seen all types of different pets. One girl in his House had a lizard called a bearded dragon! He didn't know that not all dragons had wings! But, one day, he was walking through one of the dozens of corridors at Hogwarts when he stumbled across an older student with a very strange looking creature. It had a beautiful face, tiny little legs, and a loooooong body. He immediately went right up to the other student and asked "What on Earth is that thing on your shoulder?!" He was told it was a ferret. A ferret!

Ever since that day, Klaus could not be stopped. He wanted to have a ferret, too. He was already daydreaming about the adventures the two would go on, and coming up with names for it. And so, he penned a letter:
Dear Mum,

I hope that this letter finds you in a good mood. I've been having a fun time at school, and I've made a couple new friends. I've really been loving all of the classes so far, and I can't wait to show you what I've learned!

I wanted to ask you for something. I was wondering if you would increase my allowance (by only a little!). I've been saving all of the Sickles you've given me and NOT wasted them on silly things. I saw another student yesterday with a creature called a ferret! I'm not sure what magic they do, but I've been saving up for one.

I know what you're thinking. Klaus, you're not responsible enough to have a pet. But I wanted to prove that is not right! I've only gotten lost in the hallways three times this week, and I've only lost my wand ONCE all semester (a lovely Gryffindor located it for me).

What can I do to prove to you that I am responsible? I can find a map to keep me from getting lost in the hallways, or I can make a leash for my wand so that it always stays attached to me.

Either way! I will be getting a ferret as soon as I have enough money! I'm older now, and I can handle having a pet!

I love you Mum. Is Dad still in Ghana? I don't think the school owls can fly that far, so can you tell him that I love him when he gets home?

I'll see you at Christmas!

Yours,
Klaus
