Some time in October, 2022
Crystal was humming to herself as she walked along the path. It was on days like this when she felt most like herself. The sun was out, but not shining too brightly. It had rained just the day prior, so everything was still slightly damp, which left a sense of coolness in the air, but nothing was so soggy that it made the whole outdoor experience miserable.

Crystal walked slowly and let the gentle gusts of wind blow her light brown hair all around her face in a way that always boosted her usually low self-esteem and made her feel like she was truly beautiful. If Crystal was to be honest with herself, she would know that, while her eyes were indeed her best feature, all of her was quite pretty as well.

Crystal aimlessly strolled through the grounds, admiring the color of the autumn leaves as she passed by. In the city, there never were many trees to watch during the fall, so everything in her first real "country autumn" never ceased to amaze her.

Eventually, she came across a small grouping of three or four bright red trees and decided to take a seat beneath them. She pulled a book out of the pocket of her coat and began to read, enjoying the peaceful near-silence that was accompanied by birdsong and the quiet rustling of leaves as they fell towards the ground.

Suni was dressed for autumn, since the breeze was cold, she was wearing her typical fake elf ears as well, which were adorned with earrings and some light makeup. She had no plans to go anywhere; she was simply going for a walk. She was dressed up because she enjoyed walking and liked to look good for herself. Her gaze traveled throughout the area, taking a slow pace to appreciate the beauty of the scenery as well as the soothing sounds of the birds and leaves. Her brows shot up for a moment when she noticed the quiet student sitting beneath some trees, reading a book she was unfamiliar with. She took a seat nearby, tilting her head exaggeratedly to look at the book cover, but she couldn't see it even when the head was touching the grass. So, after deciding she had nothing to lose by trying to talk to them, she decided to ask the student instead.

"What book are you reading? If you don't mind me asking..."

Suni rummaged through her purse while waiting for a response, pulling out a small notebook filled with drawings as well as some watercolors and pencils. She began to sketch the scene in front of her; the unknown student, in her opinion, was truly stunning. It was a shame not to paint how they were focused on the book despite the wind, with all the orange hues on the background, so she took the responsibility to represent the beauty she saw. She wouldn't consider herself the best artist, but she hoped to capture the essence of it, as well as the allure of the stranger, but that might be difficult, because humans are the most magnificent in real life.

Crystal could not seem to focus on her book. Every time that a leaf detached itself from a tree and began its gentle, looping descent, its bright hue caught Crystal's attention, even if it was just out of the corner of her eye. Every few minutes, she would look back down at her page, and attempt to read a few words, but then another leaf would begin to fall towards the ground, and she would find herself once again admiring the beauty of the fall trees.

This time, Crystal looked up from the pages of her novel to find that a girl who appeared to be about the same age as Crystal was approaching. The false elf ears that the girl wore instantly made her intriguing to Crystal. Realizing that she was staring, Crystal quickly turned her head back down to her book and brushed a strand of hair out of her face so that she could see the words.

To her surprise, the other girl sat down nearby and began to rummage through her purse. Crystal almost didn't hear her when she asked Crystal what book she was reading. Fortunately, Crystal was only half paying attention to her book, so she did register the girl's question, but it took a while to sink in.

To be honest, Crystal wasn't quite sure what her book actually was. Crystal's mama had been a muggle-born, so she and her wife often took Crystal out on outings into the muggle world, just to show off places that had been important to her as a child. They often took her shopping for books and other things that they knew she'd enjoy. This particular novel, along with four or five others, had been parting gifts bestowed upon her by her mothers at the train station before she departed. Since she arrived at Hogwarts, there had been so much to do, that she had not had the opportunity to read but four or five chapters of this book.

She stuck her finger in the book to mark her page and flipped to the front cover. "Uh..." she started. "It's called Six of Crows. It's a muggle book, you probably haven't heard of it before."

Normally, Crystal would have been even shyer and mumbled something, but her social anxiety always began to dissolve the moment that someone asked her about what book she was reading. Books were the one thing that she could talk about for hours on end without ever getting tired or feeling stupid.

When the other girl had sat down, she had begun to rummage through her purse, pulling out various art supplies, including a sketchbook and some paints and pencils. It appeared as if she was getting ready to make a sketch of Crystal. Crystal smiled as she leaned a little closer to see what the girl was making, but her anxiety had already made its way back into her head, so she did not say anything.

It was a very fine morning and Karrie was getting really suffocated staying inside her dorm, day and night doing homeworks. She looked out of the window, the weather was soothing and gentle. Today, she was especially attracted to the environment. Normally, she would ignore it and get back to her work, but this time, she couldn't. She stood up and stretched out her hands, letting a faint yawn escape her mouth. No one was inside her dorm, everyone was busy enjoying the weather. It seemed like Karrie was the only one serious about homeworks. She never wanted to become a nerd like her brother in the first place, but she didn't knew how the destiny folded it's way and made her an even bigger bookworm. She arranged her books and parchments and finally, decided to go out and get some fresh air. She can't waste her time like that, after all, she came all the way here to study less and enjoy more.
×××
She was walking on the grounds, still able to feel the soft and warm grass below her shoes. She was getting some fresh air, the wind blowing softly through the sides of her cheeks, made her feel a welcoming sense. She was walking around, not knowing where to go and trusting her feet to take her to somewhere beautiful. She was gazing around and enjoying the nature like no tomorrow.
She suddenly spotted two girls, sitting under a bright red tree, which was surrounded by a few identical trees, whose leaves were falling down gently on them, increasing the beauty of the ordinary place. As she moved towards them, she noticed that the girl with light brown hair with spectacles on was reading a book and a girl with pale brown hairs, with fake elf ears was sketching something.
Karrie wanted to have some companions to be with, though she didn't wanted a crowd to gather there. She moved forward and stood infront of them, leaving a very reasonable gap for some space.
"Hey! I am Karrie. Karrie Myers. It's so nice to see others do/read something creative." She looked at both of them.
"May I join you both, if possible? Actually, it's such a nice weather, and I don't like being alone usually."

"Of course, feel free to join, I'm Suni by the way! Suni Íbarez"

She smiled at the newcomer, patting the spot besides her as an invitation, continuing to sketch. Remembering what the girl next to her said about the book, she paused for a second, trying to remember any book with that name, unfortunately, she didn't remember reading anything similar to it, but the name did seem familiar. She must have read it in a post someday; her feed was quite a mess, it reminded her of herself.

"Actually, I'm a muggleborn, so I'm quite familiar with muggles, even if I'm homeschooled. However, I haven't heard about that book before. Is it good? Maybe I will go to a bookshop someday to buy it"

As she said this, she noticed the curious gleam in the girl sitting beside her, whose name she didn't know, she seemed to be peeping at the drawing, she simply assumed it was a silent question. She was probably shy, or even anxious, but she didn't mind, because she liked to talk about anything she could find.

"If you wonder what I'm paiting, it's you. You look really beautiful reading! The scenery only makes it even more artistic, it would be a shame to pass down the opportunity" She paused for a second to think "I just like to immortalize memories, so if you would like to keep it, feel free to do so, once I'm done, that is"

She sent another grim, now preparing the drawing to actually paint it with the watercolors. The sketch wasn't particularly clean because it was done quickly, but it perfectly captured the image in front of her. She was now using a rubber to remove the messiness in the lines so it didn't bother her while she painted. Turning to Karrie, she tried to make conversation with her as well, hoping to get to know her better too.

"Do you also like to read? Or perhaps you prefer to paint?"

While Crystal was busy peering over at the other girl's sketchpad, a third girl approached. Her dark hair and fair skin made her similar in appearance to both Crystal and the drawing girl. All three girls had brown hair, but each of them had a different shade of brown, with Crystal's being right in the middle between the artist's pale brown and the newcomer's dark brown.

Before the artistic girl had the chance to respond to Crystal's book, the new girl introduced herself as Karrie Myers and asked if she could sit down with them. The artist, who introduced herself as Suni, did the job that Crystal did not want to do. Suni placed her hand on the grass beside her and welcomed Karrie to sit with them. Crystal didn't want to seem unfriendly, so she looked up at Karrie with a smile and a nod.

As Karrie took a seat, Suni turned back to Crystal and said that she was, in fact, a Muggleborn, so she was familiar with many muggle novels, but not, it appeared, this one. She asked Crystal if the book was good and if she should buy it.

Crystal nodded. Again, her social anxiety had completely dissolved at the prospect of being able to talk about the book she was currently reading, and a bubblier, chattier Crystal emerged. "It's quite good, actually," she stated, and then laughed. "But I don't think it was made for readers quite as young as you and me. It's got a fair bit of violence, so only buy it if that's not something that scares you. But the characters are super cool, so its really hard not to fall in love with just about everybody. And-" Crystal cut herself off as she realized that she was rambling. Most people would think that she was weird if she kept going on longer than a few sentences, since, it appeared, most people did not care so much about a bunch of people who don't even exist.

Suni seemed to read in to Crystal's silent question in the form of a glance at the girl's sketchpad. She confirmed Crystal's initial thought, which was that Crystal herself was the subject of the sketch. Suni then told Crystal that she thought that she looked beautiful sitting here reading, and that the scenery added to the beauty of the moment. Crystal didn't know why, but she found herself blushing. Nobody except her mothers had ever called her pretty before.

Suni offered to let Crystal keep the piece when she was finished. Crystal didn't want to take an artist's artwork from her if the artist didn't want to, so she nodded and said, "Sure, unless you'd rather keep it?"

Both Crystal and Suni now turned their attention to Karrie as Suni asked the newcomer about her hobbies. Crystal realized that she hadn't introduced herself yet, so she mumbled, "I'm Crystal, by the way. It's nice to meet you."

Suni noticed how Crystal made herself shut up as she rambled. Suni noticed the pattern she had; Crystal would talk whenever a book was involving, then get shy when it's about anything else. It also seemed like she didn't want to be annoying; so she made herself keep quiet. She wondered what had happened for her to be as anxious as she was, but she wanted to make sure she is comfortable. She can be considered a werido by other kids anyway, who is she to judge? And it's not like she enjoys doing so, everyone is the way they are and they cannot do anything about it.

"Oh, please, if you want to keep talking, do so! I'm quite the talker myself, so it wouldn't be fair if I judged you for a flaw that I have, I do not like to judge anyway. Anyhow, I don't mind violence much, it's not something that I'm used to, but I'm not scared per se" She remembered the words her ma used to tell her whenever she felt afraid, feeling the necessity to share them "My ma used to say that fear can only affect you if you let it overcome you, but you can confront it and keep on going. I think her words are quite wise, aren't they?"

Suni finally begun painting with the watercolors on her small sketchbook, coloring the drawing carefully. As she painted she smiled slightly, Suni liked Crystal's voice; she found it relaxing to hear. She thinks that she could be a fascinating person to know once she lets loose. Karrie did seem interesting, too. She was also quite the looker, like Crystal; her pretty face and clear skin was quite eye-catching. Everyone she has met in Hogwarts seemed to be really beautiful to her, so far. But maybe that was her thing; Suni always found beauty in everything and everyone.

"By the way, I don't mind. Just keep it, I'm sure you will find more value to the painting"

Karrie was surprised by the welcoming feeling they gave. Normally she would have expected to get ignored in such a beautiful day or maybe, except her friends, people might have thought of her as a weirdo because already many false rumours have spread in the school about her, about her being ignorant and not wanting to make friends. But she then smiled, looking at Suni as she patted the ground beside her, offering to sit beside her. The girl with spectacles flashed a smile at Karrie and nodded, which gave her a relief. It's seems both of them are friendly.
×××
Karrie sat down, feeling the warmth of the soft grass below her. Suni asked Karrie if she liked reading or drawing and answered immediately, "I like almost everything which involves creativity, you know."
Karrie looked at her drawing and said, "I could never draw such a beautiful drawing as you did. It's so realistic, to be honest."
Karrie sat quitely for a while, taking deep breaths when feeling uncomfortable and listening to their conversation. Karrie got to know that the other girl was named Crystal. And that Crystal knew about Muggles and Suni was a Muggle herself.
Crystal was not seeming to be very social because she stopped mid way her talks. Karrie smiled, she knows how it feels, but she has already gotten over her past. Suni however assured Crystal that she could talk as much as she want and she also decided to give the painting to Crystal, as it was her portrait, after all.
So, as soon as they completed there talks, Karrie said, "Hey, Suni and Crystal, do you like to play anything fun, by any chance? Skating, Volleyball and so on..."
Karrie was really in the mood of doing something fun which was greatly linked with Muggles. As the two of them had the knowledge about Muggles, she thought they would absolutely know about it. And she estimated that Suni's drawing will be also over in a short while too.

When Suni heard Karrie degrade her own abilities, she pouted, although she does appreciate the praise, she doesn't like it when it comes with putting someone else down. Suni has drawn since she can remember! Her dad has taught her, and he was an artist! Art is difficult, and just being able to create something is amazing on its own.

”You shouldn't put your own abilities down, I'm sure you're amazing at what you do. And I also quite like anything creative, you know, my dad was an artist so I kinda got it from him. It's quite hard to grow not to love art when you have seen your parent carefully paint a portrait of our family”

Suni painted the last details carefully as while she heard Karrie suggest playing something. Although Suni didn't notice, her tongue was sticking out a bit as she painted since she was focused, it's a little habit of hers. Her family has pointed out, none of them know where it came from, but they find it really amusing.

Once she was done with the drawing, she let out a small “Ta-da!” handing it to Crystal for her to see, Suni then began to think about the question Karrie asked. Suni has played sports before of course, her ma and papa got competitive quite often when the family played them, it was really fun. Although what she remembers the most it's when Nana and Baba took her to play the typical sports of the country they visited, she enjoyed it very much, especially when they were so understanding with her despite talking a whole another language. It's really amazing to see people connect despite everything making it seem like it's not possible.

"Oh sure! I don't play sports a lot, but I do know how the rules of most of them. Do you have any sport in mind?"

Suni reassured Crystal, telling her that her ramblings weren't annoying at all. Even though she believed the girl was genuine, (after all, why would someone she didn't even know lie to her about something like that?) she still had a hard time fully believing that she wasn't being bothersome. It wasn't even that anyone had ever told her that she was annoying (her mothers had always encouraged and complimented her), this was just an intense fear that she always carried around inside herself.

Suni mentioned that she was okay with the violence in the book, and noted that it was not something that she was afraid of. She mentioned something that her mom had said about confronting your fear and not letting it overtake you. Suni asked if Crystal thought that her mom's words were wise.

"Absolutely! I think that's a great quote from your mom." Crystal laughed. "Mine give good advice, but they don't say anything quite as inspirational as that." As usual, Crystal carefully avoided stating outright that she had two moms, and just hoped that, if the person she was talking to was not supportive, they would just ignore the fact that she had used the plural form of the words.

Karrie had sat quietly while the other two girls had discussed books, but now she spoke up. She criticized her own ability as an artist while simultaneously complimenting Suni's talent. Crystal laughed, but not in a rude way. "I know," she said. "I could never hope to be that good at art. Trust me, I've tried." Suni tried to encourage the other girls, telling them that they shouldn't be so critical of their own abilities and that she was sure that their art wasn't as bad as they said it was. Crystal wanted to laugh and tell her that Crystal's art was, in fact, as bad as she claimed, but she restrained herself, fearful of coming off as rude.

Suni had now begun painting her sketch, making the carefully drawn lines come to life in a way that Crystal herself could never hope to imagine. Somehow, seeing the scene translated onto the girl's piece of paper made Crystal see the beauty of the moment in a way that she could not see from her perspective. The other girl told Crystal that it was okay if she kept the artwork, saying that Crystal would probably find more meaning in it than she would.

As Suni painted, Karrie asked the girls what sort of sports they liked to play, suggesting a few Muggle sports that she had heard her mama talk about in the past. Crystal shrugged. She had never played any sports, nor was she ever a particularly active child. She had been perfectly content to study and read indoors with her moms while the other kids her age were typically out playing.

"I'm sorry." Crystal shook her head. "I never played any sports as a kid, and both of my parents are witches, so I don't really know anything about Muggle sports."

As Crystal was answering Karrie, Suni finished up her painting and handed it to Crystal. She looked down at the drawing and smiled. As a non-artist, Crystal never quite understood how a single person could infuse so much beauty and magic into a single slip of paper. Crystal had never even thought of herself as a pretty person before this moment, but seeing how others viewed her, how they were so inspired by her that they decided to make a painting, made Crystal realize that maybe she wasn't as bad as she liked to tell herself that she was.
