The bell above the door tinkled as Taisia entered. She was with her sister, Althea. Her parents had handed them 20 galleons to buy a pet. Not that Taisia planned to spend all that. The two girls started looking around. Taisia was fairly sure she wanted a cat, but if there was another animal she liked she would get it. She bypassed the toads, shuddering as she heard the croaking. A few snakes laid still in their cages- there was no way she would be getting one of them. Another girl was there talking to one in Parseltongue. The pygmy puffs were too cutesy, plus they were over the budget. Then there were the cats. There were so many different breeds! But when she saw how cute they were sleeping, or rubbing their faces against their cages, she knew it would be a cat.
Each cage had a little sheet attached to it, with the details of the pet.
"I think I want a cat."
Althea looked up and nodded. They both started walking around the cat aisle, sticking their fingers in the cages, reading about them, and talking to them. At one point one of the shopkeepers came up to them and they chatted about the cats. The older woman recommended a midnight stalker cat or a tabby cat. There seemed to be so many! Finally Taisia came across a cat that seemed to be waiting for her.
A Chartreux Cat, 'purrfect for cuddling by the fire'. The cat would be great for late night studying (which Taisia was planning). But the best thing, and what set the deal was the cat's birthday. February 24 2022, the day of Taisia's birthday. She called Althea over and they stroked the blue cat. The owner seemed to appear out of nowhere, and offered to bring the cat out for them to decide if they wanted it. Even though they had already said yes, the girls accepted and the cat came out of the cage. First she sniffed the girls' hands and, not wanting to alarm it, they stepped back. She stretched out and padded over to Taisia, who picked her up in delight. She cradled the eight month old kitten in her arms and told the woman hovering nearby that this would be hers. Althea pulled the galleons out of her pocket and handed them over. Taisia decided she would name the kitten Huntress.
