Santario took a deep breath as she entered the duelling room; it was her home away from the dorms. Thankfully when it came to duels, there was little to no preparation that needed to be done other than shoe aside those attempting to get last-minute practice in. She found herself more excited to look over these duels than she had ever been because the captains had all come together to find a way to make it far fairer. She had not been able to watch any of the new junior league matches yesterday due to her own duel, but today she would get the privilege to oversee two of them. Her sincere hope was that the younger students would truly be able to learn and have fun, but learning would always take precedence.
As time ticked on, the doors would finally burst open with students, duellists, and spectators alike. Yes, it was finally time, she thought as a smile played with the corners of her lips. Santario pushed herself from her perch and sauntered to the piste she would oversee. “Good morning!” the French-accented silvery voice flowed through the din, calling for attention, and when she had it, she would continue. “Today, we will oversee Ravenclaw versus Hufflepuff. If I call your name, please make your way to the piste and take your place. For house Ravenclaw Robert Toukmond and Sophia Nelson!” Cheers and jeers would erupt from the crowd as Santario patiently waited for the Eagles to take their place on the stage. She had known Robert for a while and even got to oversee him during the summer duels. Shame he didn’t get to shine then; perhaps this time would allow him to show what he was capable of. Sophia was a newer face to her, and admittedly she did not know what to expect from the girl.
Once house Ravenclaw took their places, Santario held a hand up, asking for the crowd to settle. “For house Hufflepuff Lucia Fox and David Howard!” Once more, the crowd erupted in either support or disapproval as the badgers made their way to the piste. Lucia was someone she had duelled against once before, and her unnatural nature was something that could easily send her opponents for a spin. Santario was happy she was no longer affected by it, finding that the unsettling feeling she gained from looking at those that were just too pretty to be more of a reason to hit them. David was still relatively new blood, in a way. She had overseen one of his duels once before, but it was hardly a fair fight. Hopefully, the recent changes in the system will allow him to shine as well.
Once everyone was settled, Santario moved from the middle of the piste to her moderation spot. She would go over a quick recap of the rules as a refresher for the duellists and any new spectators. “It is simple enough. Now without further ado…” She paused for just a moment to savor the high energy that built up in the air at the beginning of a duel. It didn’t matter how often she experienced the feeling; it was always the best. “You may begin!”OOC Info

It felt like ages since Lucia had duelled - there'd been a whole summer holiday between her last match and this one, after all. The Hufflepuff just had to hope that she'd do her house proud in this match, especially with the new League system which would hopefully help push Hufflepuff to the win. Lucia gave David, her new partner, a nod as they both went up to the duelling stage. "We've got this." Hopefully.

Today was the day of my second official duel, and I was really excited for it. The match was slated for 10:30 a.m. and I, along with a number of other people had gathered outside of the doors of the dueling club, waiting to be let in. Once the doors to the Dueling Club were opened, I came in before going over to one end of the dueling piste where I’d meet up with my dueling partner, Lucia Fox. Once everyone was settled in, the dueling moderator, Santario Martin, would call up the Ravenclaw team, Robert Toukmond and Sophia Nelson and once they were on stage, she’d proceed to call up me and Lucia. “We've got this.” the girl said as we went up to our spots and I responded by saying “I hope you’re right.”.

Robert walked onto the piste, grinning from ear to ear. It had only been a couple months since his last duel over the summer, but it still felt too long. Finding his spot, he let out a deep breath and glanced over to Sophia. He was still startled by the fact that for the first time, he was a full year older than his partner. It was quite the change of pace from his first ever duel, when he'd been on of the youngest duelist in the school. Now, he was one of the seniors in his league.
The rest of the duel was a mix of new and old faces. Robert waved over to San, happy to see her moderating another of his duels. At this point she felt like an old friend, even if they'd never exchanged more than pleasantries. He'd never been in a duel against Lucia, but he recognized her from watching matches in previous years. David was an entirely new face, and Robert was excited to see what he had to offer. "Good luck guys!" he called over to the Hufflepuffs.
Robert glanced over at Sophia one more time, and threw her a smile. "Let's do this."

Sophia almost seemed like she had planned on doing something, but when it came down to it, she did not cast a spell. It could not be told if she intended this or was simply spaced out. Unfortunately for the Badgers, she must have been paying just enough attention to barely dodge the blue blaze set upon her byDavid. Robert focused on David, sending a dark inky cloth shooting across the piste. Unfortunately, David didn’t seem to stand a chance as it wrapped tightly around his head, sending his world into darkness.
Lucia must have taken notes from Regina and Logan’s duel last year because she targeted Robert with a fierce petrification spell. Maybe Robert was distracted by his own victory or the statue by his side. Whatever it was, he just couldn’t get out of the way fast enough. The spell would hit him square in his chest, forcefully snapping his arms and legs to his sides before he tumbled backward, hitting the ground hard. That was always the part that made Santario wince because there was no brace; you were at the sheer mercy of an unforgiving floor.

David was the first to cast, with a well-executed Knockback Jinx that the blue-haired girl on the opposite side of the piste (Sophie? No, Sophia). Unfortunately, Sophia dodged and a strip of dark blue fabric slapped David in the face, obscuring his eyes. Lucia hated that spell - it was always annoying when you couldn't see where you were aiming. Sophia didn't appear to be doing anything, but Lucia did, and her spell hit Robert in the chest. The Ravenclaw was pushed down and Lucia just hoped he'd stay down a while.

Robert would have grimaced, but he couldn't seem to move his face. He would have checked up on Sophia, who hadn't cast anything, but he couldn't talk. He couldn't remember seeing this spell in action before, and it was definitely an odd feeling to completely lose control over all motion. He consoled himself with the fact that his last spell hit as well, meaning David would also be mostly useless in the upcoming round.

I took out my wand and pointed it at Sophia before making the check mark with a hook movement to cast the spell. At the same time, I would begin to concentrate on the intended effects of the spell before saying “Flipendo!”, and I would then watch as a blue ball of wind exited my wand, only to be dodged by it’s target. I shouldn’t have been paying attention to that though, because moments later, I felt a blindfold tie itself around my eyes. Well that sucked because now I couldn’t cast any more spells until I had it off. I mean, I could cast spells, it’s just that I wouldn’t make them into my targets because I wouldn’t know where they were.

Robert might have been bound and hit the ground hard, but the boy was having none of it. He fought hard against the magical binds and seemed to easily break them. He would feel the magic bend to his whims before breaking away as his limbs moved. Robert would be fully capable of getting himself up on his feet. David found himself in a similar situation, only not having to fight nearly as hard to free himself. The blindfold would break away under his grasp. Lucia would target Sophia, who once more seemed focused on dodging, at least that is how it appeared. Lucia would cast a phenomenal Incendio Duo, and as the flames blazed violently across the piste, it looked like it would hit the girl. Unfortunately for Hufflepuff, Sophia did as she looked like she would do and evaded the spell, if only by a hair.

Lucia felt a grin spread across her face in pride at the spell she'd just cast. It was beautiful, it was perfect, it was going to- miss. That was what it did, it missed, and Lucia just had to watch her incredibly spellwork fly off into the distance and explode against a wall. What a waste.
