SPECTATOR THREAD FOR BROOM RACING
Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw - Fall 2022
Date: October 15th, 2022
Time: 9:00
Weather: Light Rain
This is a spectator thread for the Broom Race. 200 words is still the requirement for all threads. Please remember that you are not able to interface with the players in the race from a spectator thread.
It was a fine mid-morning in mid-October for the broom racers of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw to meet again on Hogwarts' grounds. The heat of the summer was past, now, replaced today by light showers that brought ominous dark clouds above and a fine mist throughout the course. These racers would be the first to head through the course, diving into the uncharted fog with only their wits and wands to guide them. A peculiarly active flock of pigeons circled overhead, occasionally dropping their droppings onto an unlucky spectator in the stands before returning to shelter in the small patch of trees near the start of the course.

The course was a manageable length for racers of this caliber. 25 units, stretching through the Hogwarts grounds and winding through the trees before reaching a brand-new waterfall that had been constructed just for the purposes of this race. Unfortunately, spectators would be disappointed to find that it was throwing up a mist so dense that it was difficult to actually see where the racers were headed in that stretch of the course. The first unlucky racers to enter would find themselves in a maze of tunnels that looped back on themselves in confusing patterns, the challenge only made more severe by the mists of the waterfall. Eventually, the maze would spit racers out over the great lake, where they would be exposed to the elements - dense fog, harsh winds, and one particularly pissed-off squid. But nothing a few teens/tweens couldn't handle, right?

Set up in a convenient location for the entire course to be viewed, the stands were occupied primarily by passionate fans of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw who had come out to show support for their own houses. A few savvy students were attempting to pierce the fog in the middle sections of the course by viewing the race through their omniculars, to no avail. Those who arrived early to the match would have noticed that George Henry entered the course several times to feed the pigeons, who had now begun to poop freely along the course. Students covered their heads or conjured umbrellas when pigeons flew overhead, but a few unfortunate first-years had already been splattered. Hopefully the birds would buzz off when the race began...

Serena was here, bright and early. She was - in fact - the first to arrive. She spotted Hugh from a mile away, who she had come to support. Nicholas and George were also there. It was great to see her friends. Her own game was happening in a few hours, but she had some time before she had to broom up and take part. What did George have planned for their strategy? She did not know. Perhaps she would pick up a strategy or two from Hugh or Gryffindor. Against them was Ravenclaw. Her gaze flickered to Bloom. It had been a while since the whole thing went down with Howard but Bloom had not really bothered to explain herself to Serena yet - nor did she care. The whole thing with her was a mess. Hopefully, it would sort itself out soon.

She watched Hugh successfully hit Bloom with a projectile. Watching the duo, she wanted to cringe slightly but unfortunately, she also did side with the part-giant. He was her best friend, after all. Getting hit by him is not something she wished upon anyone but Bloom kind of sucked, in her opinion. As she watched Gryffindor fly, she stopped to appreciate their uniforms - designed by her friend. She watched the two houses compete, her hopes on one of them winning.

If @Hugh Lowe looked at Serena, she would smirk at him - wink rather drastically and blow a kiss towards him to let him know that she was there supporting him, in a very drastic way.

"OWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" Colin howled with excitement as the racers blasted away from the starting line! Of course, he'd come down to the track to watched his dear heart Clair Fernandez race with her team against the Gryffindorks! The first time he'd seen the graceful Ravenclaw race on her broom was last summer when they raced in the London quidditch stadium. He still recalled being excited by the very look of her! She was such a pretty girl and he could hardly take his eyes off her all through the race.

But now, well, Colin had an excuse to keep his eyes firmly fixed to the brown haired, blue eyed eagle racer! This time, he just got to watch and enjoy the race as a spectator. And no matter what the outcome, he'd cheer her on.

Right away that huge Gryffindork grabbed what looked like a whole tree and threw it into the flock of birb racers! "OH CRA-AP! Who is that troll?" Colin shouted out, his hands flying up to his mouth. It wasn't Clair that got his, thank God, but, oof! The poor girl that did get bonked --- wasn't that Bloom? --- would be in a world of pain for sure! Colin's race against Hufflepuff wouldn't be for a couple more hours, and really hoped no one would throw anything his way!

Or at least, if they did, he hoped they'd miss!

So many racers blasted right into the thorns, and quite a few got caught up on the thorns. Oof, those were nasty! Colin wondered how many new scars he'd acquire this afternoon from the race. But for now, he cheered as Clair breezed through the thorns like they weren't even there! He cried out to her: "GOOOOOOOOOO CLAAAAAAIIIIIIRRRRRR!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Whoa! That giant lad kept throwing things at the lead birb. This time he missed --- good thing too, because it looked like he could break her in half! Looking back towards Clair, Colin watched as she disappeared into the trees. He couldn't see much, but he could hear an assortment of cracking branches, curses, and yells as the racers blew through. Eventually, he saw Clair emerge from the trees. She seemed okay. Colin shrugged. His girl was tough and graceful. He was now standing up on the bench, jumping up and down as she flew on!

He wasn't quite sure what happened next, but he could see that a Ravenclaw racer had been knocked right off her broom. It was Harper. Colin held his hands to the sides of his head in wonderment! CLAIR REACHED OUT AND CAUGHT THE OTHER GIRL!! Clair was now flying for two! Colin couldn't believe his eyes! His every thought was how amazing this girl really was! His nearly exploded with joy at watching his girl race! "YAAAAAWOOOOOOOOOO!!"

Colin's fingers laced through his hair anxiously as Clair and her copilot plunged into the deep mist near the waterfall. They seemed to be in there an awful long time. He saw one Gryffindor racer plunge out of the mist --- falling on her way to the ground! And shortly thereafter, he saw Ari, a Ravenclaw lad get washed out by the waterfall. Oh my goodness! This was an epic race! And Colin couldn't stand not being able to see what was happening to Clair! Was she stuck? Did she fall and he missed it? Did that hulking giant throw something at her?

And just when Colin thought he couldn't take any more, Clair and Harper --- two birbs on a branch indeed! --- shot out from the mist! And they weren't alone. No, that lumbering giant that attacked right from the start was onto Clair!

"CLAAAIIIRRR!! Watch out! That troll is right behind ye lass!" He tried slamming into them, but they rolled ever so gracefully and flew onwards! "CLAAAIIIRRR!! CLAAAIIIRRR!!! You're soooo awesome! Both of you! CLAIR FERNANDEZ!! I LOVE YOOOOUUU!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
