Lakeside Curiosity
Date: 09/25/22 | Time: Afternoon
────────────────────────────────────────The cloud-filled sky offered little warmth to the chilled wind that blew across the grounds. The Hufflepuff tucked her chin downward slightly to hide her face a little more snugly in the thick scarf she'd wrapped loosely around her neck. The weather had already begun to take the seasonal plunge. As she adjusts herself atop the rock she'd claimed as her temporary perch, Avery pulls the sleeves of her sweater down a little further to partially cover her hands.
Sitting back on her heels, the first year is more so crouched than sitting. Her knees are tucked close to her chest as both arms wrap around them to stay balanced atop what she imagines to likely be some very cold stone. The smattering of students milling about the lakeside and surrounding grounds are promptly ignored as blue eyes survey the calm surface of the lake.
Tucked carefully at her side is a partially worn copy of Hogwarts, A History. Having finally spent some time sifting through the chapters, she figured it'd be a little easier to actually retain some of the information if she was able to apply it to some of the actual physical locations. Avery would readily admit that she was also a little curious as to whether or not she could actually catch sight of some of the creatures that had residence within the murky waters, the giant squid in particular. She figured it might be a little too cold today to have much luck on that front though.
Still, she was never one to turn down some time spent outdoors. At least in this case she could use the excuse that it was for a bit of research, flimsy as it may be. A distant splash disturbed the surface of the otherwise still lake, drawing her gaze. A moment passes in silence with no other disturbance. Avery releases the slight breath of anticipation she hadn't realized she'd held. Head tilting to the side, she rests her cheek against the top of her knees. Well this was turning out to be a bust so far.────────────────────────────────
