Sitting on the shore's edge, listening to the faint echos of the lake as water meets land. The sun was past high point, beginning it's decent until eventually disappearing from this day. The air was cool, bringing forth the early signs of fall approaching, though it was still warm enough to not need a jacket. Monica sit on the waters edge, her faithful rat Kiwi by her side, both girl and rat enjoying the peace the Great lake had to offer.
Monica often found herself out here, it was a place where she could find some privacy, and honestly dreamed of seeing the monsters that are rumoured to lurk just under the surface of the water. Today was no different, after a long week, and some really tough classes, it was nice to find a sliver of escape from the needs of the week. Take sometime to just do nothing.
As Monica lay out on the grass, watching every cloud drifting by she would call out what she saw, "That looks like a dragon... what do you think?" She looked over, anticipating an answer from Kiwi that would never come, though it stopped Monica not from continuing to engage in the very one sided conversation.
"Naw, I suppose it looks more like a daisy exploding." She paused, giving space for the rat to stretch out.
"Well if you're board of this, then what DO you want to do?"
The small rat gazed up at Monica, sleep filling it's peal-like eyes. Looking back, Monica sat up, "Well it's not bed time... How about we go over some more training?" Seeing no response from the rodent, Monica went ahead with the, impromptu training session.
This was an activity Monica did with Kiwi as often as she could. She had heard that rats were rather clever creatures, and assuming magical ones more than most, so she took every chance to mold her pet's mind, keeping it sharp, and connected with her.
"Alright, now this is an easy one..." Monica took out her wand, showing it off to the white and grey creature, before tossing it a few feet into the grass. She paused, and held eye contact with the rat. "Kiwi... stand up." The rat rose onto it's hind feet, staring back at Monica, "Very good. Now, get me my wand." In a flash the small creature scurried off and retrieved the wand, dragging it back to Monica's hand. She pulled out a small bag, that had some cut carrots in it, [color=#3b7ab5d]"Excellent!"[/color] She took out a carrot piece and handed it to the rat.
"Alright.... what else should we work on?" The small rodent was too busy gnawing on the carrot stick to answer, though no answer would come from little Kiwi anyways.
"How about some jumps? Kiwi....Up!" As she said this, Monica rose to her feet, just as Kiwi finished off the carrot, she leaped up, nearly reaching all the way to Monica's shoulder in a single jump. Just needing to climb a few inches to be perfectly perched.

Clair had decided that today would be the perfect day to work on Kiwi.
The cat had a mind of her own and seemed like she was never going to learn any tricks. The Ravenclaw set Kiwi down and and put her leash on, it was a simple muggle leash and harness set which she had gotten from her sister via a school owl.
"Ok Kiwi, want to learn something today?" The cat watched her with a bored face her tail flicking back and forth slowly. Clair pulled a homemade cat toy from her pocket of her robes and flicked it around.
"Wanna play?" The cat's attention was not on a fly that was flying around nearby. Clair sighed.
"Fine. You want to chase flies?" Kiwi was still ignoring Clair. "Ok fine, you can watch the flies." Clair said loosening the leash so that Kiwi could go a little further.
At first Kiwi just sat there, happy to watch the fly. But then she got bored of that and decided to move locations. She pulled her leash from Clair's hand and was on the run, Clair got up chased after the cat, "KIWI!!!" She shouted, the cat stopped for a few seconds, looked at Clair and just as Clair was about a foot away from the cat the cat started off again.
"UGGGGG KIWI COME HERE PLEASE!!!''

Laughing along with her small rodent, Monica felt great pride in how much Kiwi listened to her. It took a long time to build up the commands and train Kiwi, but it was well worth it to have a pet able to interact with you in such a way.
"Very good Kiwi, you shall have a grand feast tonight for your hard work, and good listening." The rat scratched its nose, but almost as if that was answering back to Monica.
"What do you say we head back to---" Monica saw the small rat focus on something. Her little beady eyes pulled from Monica's face, looking off into the distance, its nose twitching, ears perched. "What's up girl?" Monica lowered her hand to stroke the top of Kiwi's head, only to have her move it to keep focus on whatever it was in the distance. Then Monica heard it, ever so slightly. Someone was calling out 'Kiwi' far in the distance, it was hard to hear, but there was no mistaking that is what was being cried out.
Turning her attention to both where Kiwi was looking, and where the small shouts were coming from, Monica too saw the commotion. A cat, in a harness, dragging its leash behind it, running in the direction of Monica, with a girl chasing just behind. Oh how Monica felt for the fellow student, looking down at the rat, the memories of all the times Kiwi ran away, and in crowed places too!
"This is why we do the training we do, so that you don't do that anymore." She said to the rat, and Kiwi looked up, understanding Monica's words.
"Kiwi Up." Monica said, and the rat jumped up onto Monica's shoulders, "With a loose cat it seems you will be better off up here."
Watching the chase unfold, Monica readied herself, and started to joining in, planning on meeting the cat as it was coming towards them.
She didn't run, but slowly adjusted herself into the cat's path, holding out her hand ready to either catch it if it jumped, or grab hold of the leash. The girl giving chase came closer and Monica could hear her calls after the cat much clearer now.
"Here... Kiwi.... come to Evans" Monica said to herself after the cat, ready for the interception, just as she did though, her own rat poked its head out of Monica's hood at the mention of its name.

Clair chased after her crazy cat, she was getting ready to stop and try to figure out another way. Maybe she needed to trick the cat to come to her with treats, seeing as the cat did not know come as a command yet. Just as she was about to stop though, Clair noticed another student, they seemed to have noticed Kiwi's adventurous run.
The Ravenclaw slowed just enough that she would be able to keep running for a while, that was when a thought hit her, would a spell be able to help her? Arresto Momentum would maybe help the cat slow just enough to let her be caught. Yes, that was what she would do. Pulling out her wand she got ready to cast. Aiming at the feline, and feeling a tiny bit guilty, Clair casted the spell, "Arresto Momentum!"

The spell seemed to work and hit it's mark, slowing the cats down considerably.
Clair was able to catch up and scooped up the troublesome kitty. "Naughty lil girl! Boop!" She said, and booped Kiwi's wet little pink nose.
"Hi" clair greeted the other girl, "I'm Clair, and this is my runaway cat, Kiwi."
She smiled, hoping that the other girl would not be upset that the cat had run away.

Closer and closer cat and owner came, Monica started worrying what would be the repercussions if she missed the feline? Still nearer they drew, Monica could feel her heart beating, trying to map out the cat's path.
Looking up, she saw the girl pulling out her wand, unsure what was happening, but not wanting to get hit by a stray spell, Monica focused her attention off the cat to watch if she had to doge any incoming spell. Luckily the girl knew exactly what she was doing, and the spell landed on the cat. "Ah the slowing charm!" Monica thought. Relaxing herself, she went up to the girl just as she was retrieving her little runaway.
The girl wasted no time in introducing herself, Monica returned the gesture, "Nice to meet you Clair." extending her hand out for a hand shake, "I'm Monica... and this," She went into her hood where Kiwi had nuzzled after the endeavours, "Is my Kiwi." Pulling out the rat, she held her out to the girl, Kiwi sitting quite still and sniffing at the air, curious about the new acquaintance just as Monica was.
"Seems like we both favour tropical fruit to name our pets," Monica chuckled, "not sure if it's the name, but my Kiwi has for sure also had her fair share of running away..." She looked down at the rodent, "But we have worked very hard together, and now she is the most well behaved rat." Kiwi did a little spin in Monica's had, as if knowing she was the subject of the conversation. Monica smiled and gave her a small treat, which Kiwi took and retreated back onto Monica shoulder. Monica looked down at the cat in Clair's arms, "Oh she is so cute! have you had her long?" She held out her hand but then stopped, "umm... I'm sorry, could I pet her?"
