The Brightest Star in the Sky Pet

Sirin admired the magnificent aisles of the Magical Menagerie. She held her father's hand tight. Normally, the two would be window shopping, but today was very different. On this very day, Sirin would meet a new friend. Her father decided that she may be lonely at school, and insisted that a pet would be a "fluffy, friendly stress reliever." Even as her father tried to convince Sirin to get an owl, she had her mind set on a ferret. An owl seemed like a great candidate: they could deliver messages and were loyal, cute, fluffy creatures--but ferrets, at least to Sirin, were the superior option. Sirin had always loved ferrets; no matter how they looked. Back in the muggle world, she and her friends would often look at pictures of ferrets whenever they could--whether it be in a magazine, or visiting the local pet store. These were fond memories of Sirin's friends. To have a ferret by her side at Hogwarts was all she would ever ask for. Her father finally gave in and told Sirin to find the ferret aisle. Sirin skipped off happily on her own to check out the medley of ferrets that the menagerie offered. On her way, she passed the cat aisle. There were so many different breeds; Silver Mackerel tabbies, Red Mackerel tabbies, the Egyptian Mau, Red Classic tabbies, Bengals, Chartreux, Siamese cats, and so many other fantastic breeds. Sirin was overwhelmed by the constant meowing and the adorable little stares she got from the cats as she passed by. Though all the other breeds of cats looked enticing, she had her eyes set on the Silver Siberian cats. Everything about the Silver Siberians was pleasing to Sirin; their soft, long pelt, their stunning gaze and the beautiful color of their coat. Silver Siberians reminded her of Ragdoll cats, and especially of Stella, the Ragdoll cat that Sirin's grandmother once owned. Sirin remembered being so excited to visit grandma each weekend: she couldn't wait for delicious milk and cookies, and of course, playing with Stella the cat. For a moment Sirin had forgotten that her mission was to get a ferret--not a cat. As enticing as it seemed, she could not afford two pets and therefore skipped off to the ferret aisle, the image of the cats still engraved in her head. As she browsed the aisles, one specific ferret caught her eyes. The magnificent creature scanned Sirin from top to bottom, and Sirin stared back. For one awkward moment they locked eyes, as if they were in a staring competition. It felt as if she understood the ferret, and the ferret understood her. The fluffy creature's brilliant black-and-white coat shone so brightly that even the stars looked down in jealousy. At that very moment Sirin knew that she'd found the one. This would be her eternal companion, her single shining star in the sky.
