At the start of their fourth year, things had continued as usual, or at least as normal as his cursed existance would allow. Opeila and Flash would continue jogging as early as their cufew would allow, and even more easily since Opeila moved into the Snape dorm with him. This would not last, however, as only a few days into the school year, Opeila would start to sleep in instead. As unusual as it was that it was Opeila that was too tired to jog and not Flash, he would not think much of it and let her have however much rest she needed. He would miss the small window of time he had to catch up with his dear friend, but there was nothing wrong with needing more sleep... or so he thought.

It was a Sunday like any other, with Flash going through the motions, until a concerned student who knew of their relationship approached him in a panic. He would be alerted to the fact that during her internship in the hospital wing, Opeila had collapsed into unconsciousness. Foregoing the rest of his usual routine, Flash would quickly divert to the third floor.

Despite all the danger he had faced in his time at school, he rarely found himself in the hospital wing. In fact, the last time he could recall spending a great deal of time there was during his first year when the Slytherin common room was attacked by spiders. He had sat by Opeila's bedside then too, and the memory did nothing but cause him a great deal more anxiety and a quickened pace on his way.

Once there, he quickly found the bed that Opeila was occupying, and she was not only thankfully conscious, but was attended to by the new head nurse. It always seemed like the nurses didn't last long. For as thankful as Flash was that the last nurse found a cure for the spider's curse, he had not been surprised to hear he would not be returning this year. As usual, Flash was not about to trust any adult that had such power over the students, who were capable of such negligence and harm.

"Opeila, I came as soon as I heard." Flash would not manage to look unaffected, and instead was out of breath and perspirating. "What's going on? Are you alright?"

Flash would ignore the nurse to his side, not feeling any need to introduce himself, since it was only a matter of time until he disappeared too.

Opeila was tired. Not the kind of tired that set in after a weekend of staying up late and sleeping in, but the kind of tired that set in after days of not sleeping at all. Who had met Opeila in her first year likely knew that she was quite capable of being that disciplined, but now? The fourth year had made a lot more effort to take care of herself since her third year, she always went to sleep around the same time (with the occasional exception when there was a last minute homework to be done) and got up at around the same time, ensuring that she got healthy amounts of sleep.

And yet she couldn't have been more tired if she hadn't slept for a week.
Opeila refused to neglect her duties at school over this absolutely illogical tiredness, despite the dread growing inside her with every passing day. Dread that there was a different cause for her tiredness, a dark, very much self caused one. Yes, the fourth year should certainly know better than giving her blood away for a hag ritual she didn't know any real details about.
Too bad that seeing her friends suffer really tended to overpower her sense of self preservation.

So on this Sunday, Opeila would show up in the Hospital Wing, only for a few hours- or one... maybe half?- to feel not as useless as she had the last days. With slow movements the Slytherin would sort out and clean some shelves, soon falling into some kind of half awake, half asleep trance. Like a robot that slowly ran out of battery, she would continue, slowing down more and more... until suddenly her legs buckled, unable to carry the young girl any longer.

When Opeila regained consciousness, she was lying on one of the hospital beds, with quite a bad headache- what had she hit her head on when she fell?
To her surprise- and slight discomfort- she would find not only the nurse but also Flash next to her bed. It was not that she didn't appreciate her friend checking on her, but one of the good sides of not having enough energy for the morning jogs anymore was that there was less time in which she had to lie to Flash's face.

The Slytherin had become better at lying and hiding her emotions during her second year, when she still believed that her life depended on it, but the longer it lasted, the more likely she got to blow up, especially when she was under extreme stress.
Back in her first year Opeila had gotten into all kind of troubles all the time, and Flash had always been the one person she opened up to. Him being the one she couldn't really talk to now felt... wrong.

She would send her friend a weak smile. "Hey... I think I'm okay?" She probingly reached up and felt her head, wincing slightly when she touched a sensitive spot. "I just... I just fell." A lame explanation, but perhaps having hit her head would come in handy as an excuse for why she supposedly couldn't remember?
