Closed Skipping Rocks In The Rain

It was a pretty good Sunday today. Kayla thought it was just about the perfect weather for a nice walk, it wasn't too cold, but it wasn't warm, either. It was good weather. She would rather have spent some time doing missing assignments, to be specific transfiguration, and catching up on work. But it was a good day, and Kayla couldn't seem to resist the weather.

She put on shoes quickly, before racing out of her common room, going down the stairs two at a time. She wore a ratty white t-shirt, with black sweatpants and sneakers.
"Sorry! Sorry- excuse me- oh are you okay? Sorry!"Kayla bumped into students as she was going just a bit fast, skipping through the corridors. The result was she reached the grounds in no time flat, it had taken her two minutes of her time to get down to the edge of the lake.
Thats a world record, Kayla thought to herself, smiling as she slowed down her pace, her eyes scanning the water.

She walked for a few minutes in utter silence, just enjoying the quietness. She didn't even have her thoughts to disturb her. Well, that was until the first drop of rain hit her nose. Kayla whipped her nose and looked up at the sky, it was dark and cloudy.
"It's gonna rain..."Kayla muttered outloud, already feeling the drops sliding down her hair. She figured she should get back inside. Kayla hated getting sick. Sneezing? No thank you.

She made her way back towards the castle, but out of the corner of her eyes, she saw someone in the lake- she only saw a blotch of black hair, but she couldn't recognise who it was. She hesitated before turning around, putting her hands in the pockets of her pants, walking towards the edge of the lake. She saw as she walked a bag and a pair of shoes, she figured it belonged to the person in the lake.
"Hey! Hey, uh, I'm Kayla, and it's kinda cold out here. What are you doing in the rain?" Kayla called over to the stranger, who seemed to be enjoying the rain.
She realised this was not the most sensible question, considering she was out in the rain too. But what could she say?
It was a nice, rainy day.

"Hey! Hey, uh, I'm Kayla, and it's kinda cold out here. What are you doing in the rain?" Upon hearing those words, Nico spun around, (as well as you can spin standing knee-deep in water) and just as he caught sight of the girl who had spoken, he slipped on a slick rock and fell backward into the water. "Why does this always happen to me??"

Nico sat up and felt a stronger urge to give the lake the finger, but he didn't because he was afraid the giant squid might be offended. He looked at the girl who had made him fall, she was tall, but not quite as tall as him, he was at least an inch taller than her. She had pale skin like Nico, but that was where their similarities ended. She had short, light brown hair, and was wearing a white T-shirt and sweatpants.

Nico cocked his head to the side and said to the girl, "Kayla, was it? Well, you see, I had been minding my own business, skipping rocks, and enjoying the rain. When you decided to very rudely disrupt the peacefulness by shouting a nonsense question. Which then caused me to slip on a rock, and fall into the water. So, now I shall ask you the same question, what are you
doing in the rain?" And for good measure, he added a small smile.

As Nico stepped out of the water, he took a better look at Kayla. She was... "Pretty."

Kayla almost ran into the lake when the boy fell down in lake - but she reminded herself her pants were made of cotton, and they'd probably get soaked, even more soaked than they already were from the slight rain anyway.
"Oh my gods! Are you ok?! I didn't mean to startle you- are you ok?" Kayla asked him, hesitating just enough for her sneakers go get just to get a bit wet- she backed away when she realised. But he sat up, and Kayla could breath again.
But when he spoke, Kayla didnt feel so sorry all of a sudden.
"Well, I'm sorry sir, that you fell down, which was not entirely my fault if I may add, if you had taken care to turn slower you would be okay!" Kayla huffed, crossing her arms. But she only got more annoyed, when he gave him that smug smile. "And I, just came outside to take a walk because the weather was pretty good!" She didn't exactly mean to be rude, she was just angry, sort of. No, she wasn't angry one bit, in fact, she was far from angry, and it took most of her self control to not crack a smile. She was, of course, startled that this guy fell (not so sorry after what he said to her, however) but she didn't have the energy to get angry. It was a good day, why spoil it? She still stood her ground as the boy stepped out of the water, straightening her stance to look slightly taller than she really was.

"It's not entirely your fault? I happen to have the right side of the story, and yes, I do believe it is your fault. But of course, since you have such a strong argument against my case, I submit and entirely take the blame for your mistake." Kayla wasn't very intimidating, though she obviously tried to seem so.

The wind blew and a few leaves fell from the tree that Nico was standing under. She was right, it was a nice day, the wind was cool but not cold, strong but not over powering, and the rain was quite therapeutic. Nico lay down in the wet grass, he probably would get mud all over his white jeans, but he'd find some way to magic it out later. Kayla would probably give him a weird look, so he closed his eyes so he couldn't see her. "It's such a nice day, if only someone hadn't made me fall and become soaked this would be more enjoyable. But oh well, you can't control these things!" "Enjoying the rain, Madam?" Nico was probably going to get a death stare, but he knew the girl wouldn't do anything. She was obviously intrigued by him.

Nico looked up at the sky as it started raining harder. He stood up and stepped lightly over to his bag and pulled out a black umbrella. He opened it, paused for a second, and then handed it to Kayla. "I'm already soaked, so I don't think it will do much for me, so here you are your highness," he said with a smirk and a bow.

"I am so grateful you agree with me here! You are forgiven for blaming me," Kayla said, with an innocently sweet smile. As the boy layed down on the grass, he closed his eyes, Kayla watched as he did this so calmly, not bothering to argue further about Kaylas case.
"Enjoying the rain, Madam?"
Kayla rolled her eyes, but he didn't see this, so she chose to reply.
"Yes, actually, I am enjoying it very much," Kayla said, not entirely lying. The rain had gotten her soft hair damp, so it became sticky and stuck to the back of her neck. Nico stood up and went to his bag, she thought he was going to leave, take his stuff and go back up the castle. As the rain started getting more..well rainy Kaylas shirt started soaking up. But this guy didn't leave. He handed her an umbrella. Kayla down at the umbrella, before looking up at the guy, who was smirking.
"Are you an idiot? Even if you are throghly soaked you still need that umbrella!" Kayla said, sounding more angry than grateful. She accepted the umbrella nevertheless, but when she opened it, she didn't put it over herself. She walked over next to the boy and held it in between them.
"You see, this is what you shouldve done. Your probably going to get sick, but hey, look on the bright side, your not gonna get any more soaked than I am," Kayla said matter-of-factly, she looked over at him and gave him a bright smile. No ways she was gonna accept the umbrella and not want to share it between them. Kayla was simply weird that way.

The girl was obviously one of those people who just couldn't accept kindness without returning it. "I bet she's a Hufflepuff, or possibly even a Gryffindor. Which would explain why I haven't seen her around the castle." Nico studied Kayla closely, she had freckles and her smile was friendly and welcoming with just a little bit of "I'm amazing." Nico realized he might have seemed to be staring, so he looked down. Unconsciously, he spun the rings on his fingers, it was a nervous habit of his.

"Um... I'm Nico, by the way. Nico Cirillo. I'm a-"
"No, I shouldn't tell her now. We've barely known each other, and it doesn't really help too much with making friends. If we do become friends, then maybe I'll tell her after a while. But certainly not now."
"I'm... uh, I'm in Slytherin. I'm guessing you are a Gryffindor? Or is it Hufflepuff?"
He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, it was at that time that Nico realized how close he and Kayla were standing. And he was a little bit uncomfortable about it. But he was warmer standing with her than out in the rain, so he gave in.
The lake was a murky green color, and out in the distance, Nico could've sworn he saw something jump out of the water. He wouldn't tell Kayla what he saw because it was possible he could've just imagined it, and he didn't want to make her think he was mental.

Nico introduced himself, but he paused for a second, before saying his house. Almost like he didn't want to say it.
"And now we know his name! That took a while," Kayla said, only half joking. "Hufflepuff. Wasn't my expected house, or my first choice either, but I didn't really know what to expect. So I just went with it." The rain splattering against the umbrella was a nice sound to Kayla. It was a bit loud and was a bit against her ears, but it sounded nice, nevertheless. She pushed some of her hair out her face, not like it was bothering her, she just did it out of habbit. Her eyes concentrated far out on the water, but she wasn't really looking at it. She mostly just concentrated on her voice, Nico's voice and her own jumbled up thoughts. Some included whether she had fed Squeaky before coming outside.
"Slytherin, cool. The house of the- what was it?- cunning and ambitious I think? I didn't pay much attention. Did you expect to be in Slytherin?"Kayla asked, her eyes breaking contact from the water and looking at him for the fracture of a second, before going back to looking at the glassy but murky surface.
"How'd you know, anyway? Was it my simply awesome personality? Or was it my insistance to help you even though you were acting like a- oh shoot, sorry." Kayla stumbled a bit, almost dropping the umbrella. She steadied herself, and the umbrella, putting it back in its position between them.
"So, Nico, you come out here, you bring an umbrella and don't use it, instead you offer it to a complete stranger, who, if i may add, just had an argument with. Why?" Kayla asked him, she turned to him, this time she didn't look away. She scanned his face with a calculating look.

This girl never shuts up. She probably talks in her sleep as well. If she was kidnapped, her kidnapped would give her back just to have a little bit of quiet. Probably muggle born. They always talk a lot.
"Well, most of my family is Slytherin, some are Ravenclaw, like my mom. I wanted- no, I needed to be in Slytherin. Any other house wouldn't make sense, and my grandfather said he would disown me if I was in any other house."
Nico paused as she stumbled a little, and water rolled down the umbrella and onto him. "Lovely... Just lovely..."
"Well, you're not a complete stranger anymore, are you? And maybe I just gave it to you to be nice? Or would you rather me push you into the lake?" He didn't mean for it to sound rude, it just came out that way. Nico looked down at the ground, his face slightly red. He wanted to apologize, but he found himself unable to speak.
"Dear god, I'm an idiot!
Always got to be rude, don't you, Nico?
She was making eye contact with me, that's very uncomfortable!!
Yeah, because she's normal! And since when do you have problems with eye contact?
Since forever.
You make eye contact with Dart and Snake. Why not her?
Because Kayla's a human. And I very much dislike humans."
A long silence passed before Nico spoke, "I- I'm.... aposlogahs."

Kayla nodded along to Nico's words, but when he said his grandfather would disown him if he wasn't in Slytherin, Kayla raised one eyebrow.
"Your grandfather said he'd disown You? Is that a joke? Please tell me your joking." Kayla had never really understood the fuss about what house one was in. It wasn't like it was a special or anything, it was simply a stupid title a hat gave you. And the fact that some people went as far as wanting to disown someone... wow.
"You weren't being so nice when you went off on me, because I uh, 'rudely disturbed the peacefulness by shouting a nonsense question'," Kayla said evenly, air quoting this with her free hand. "And if you pushed me into the lake..." Kayla let this hang in the air for a moment or two. "I'd a probably just drag you down with me. A probelm shared is a problem halved, they say." Kayla always liked the saying, not liked she applied it, it just sounded like a good quote to live up to. She noticed Nico look down, he didn't seem want to face her. A a long silence was between them, then Nico spoke.
"You what?" Kayla asked, thinking she misheard him when Nico spouted a word worthy of the shakepearen language. But she realised what he wanted to say. Was this guy trying to apologise? "Are you apologising? It's ok, little one. I can help you say such a big word." Kayla was smiling now, almost laughing. She wasn't trying to taunt him. He did this to himself.
