Does he turn into a Prince?
“Mom, can you just tell me where we’re going,” Alma giggled, looking around at the various shops in excited confusion. When her mother told her she had a ‘surprise’ for her, she hadn’t really known what to expect. She was now trying to deduce what it could be by looking at the surrounding shops and seeing what her mom could possibly have in store.
“No! It must be a surprise,” her mother insisted, scanning the area as well for the shop she was looking for. Her scottish accent was getting very prominent now that she was more stimulated.
They finally came to a stop in front of a lovely quaint shop with the words ‘Magical Menagerie’ spelled out at the top.
“Magical Mena…wait, a pet shop?!?!” Alma gasped, looking to her mother with a large and wide smile on her face. “Thank you thank you thank you!”
She rushed inside, pushing open the door and marveling at all the pets she saw. She never really had the opportunity to get attached to a pet. The only one she ever had was a goldfish when she was around six, and it only lasted about a week.
There were so many different types of animals she nearly fainted of excitement looking at them all. Cats, Owls, Rats, Lizards, Toads. She even saw some scarier ones like snakes and spiders!
Her first instinct was of course to turn to her mother, seeing if she had a specific one she wanted her to have. But, she just waved her hand, signaling that Alma could pick any one she liked.
She gave her mom one last hug and skipped off to go look at the wonderful animals.
Immediately avoiding the spiders and snakes section, she felt drawn to the reptiles. The options were lizards or toads. She walked down, smiling fondly at all the little animals before stopping at a particular one.
It was a toad, small and spotted. It looked up at her through the glass almost like it was begging her to pick it. And who was she to say no?
A gentle hand on her shoulder startled her backwards. She turned to see a lovely old lady with gray hair smiling at her.
“Sorry to startle you, dear! Would you like this one? You’ve been looking at it for quite a while,” she said kindly. Alma looked back at the cage and the little frog inside and her eyes lit up.
“Yeah, he’s the one. I’ll take him!”
