Background Story: Salem was born in Bacharach, Germany on January 29th, 2011. Her parents are named Tobias (wizard) and Ophelia (muggle) Nachtnebel. Salem is close with her mother, but has recently become distant with her father after a terrible accident when she was ten. Her father was showing spells to Salem when a spell ricocheted off a tree and hit the young child directly in her right eye, blinding that eye permanently.

Growing up was a bit difficult in the beginning of Salem's childhood. They were poor and struggled to keep a home for sometime, eventually ending up homeless at one point when Salem was about five. However, luck was soon on their side of life when extended family reached out to them after learning of their situation through other family member's. The extended family lived in England, and were most certainly willing to get the family back on their feet as long as they moved into England. Unable to pass up this offer, the small family took the opportunity and moved to a small town in England with the help of the extended family.

It was primarily Ophelia's Great Aunt, Thea, who helped with bringing the family back up. She gave them money and a place to stay until they were able to afford their own place. She fed them, clothed them, and did everything she could to give them a comfortable life. Unfortunately, she passed away when Salem was nine, yet fortunately she left all of her inheritance to them as she had no husband or children of her own. This set the Nachtnebel family up for a very comfortable life, though Ophelia preferred to still have a job in case anything were to happen to their inherited fortune.

Salem's first instance of magic happened when she was three. She had managed out of her crib and was going for the stairs when she tumbled down. However, instead of being injured, she simply bounced down the stairs like a bouncy ball. Needless to say her parents put up baby gates all over the house after that.
