A Just a Bit of Comfort
Neptune had just boarded the Hogwarts Express for the beginning of her second year. They'd had a wonderful summer, adding new paintings to her collection and also receiving a Journal to keep track of important events in their life. They'd gained new crystals while in Diagon Alley and had also bought themselves a sketchbook and some new art supplies. But once again, their summer fun had come to an end and it was now all business to work hard and graduate to their upcoming second year.
So here Neptune was, walking around the halls of the scarlet train with their older brother, Jasper, searching for people that they knew.
"Jas, seen anyone yet?" Neptune asked, watching as her older brother kept walking and looking into compartments.
"Not yet Tune," he said, searching compartments, "But I think I just saw one of my friends walk into a compartment up ahead."
"Jeez, better not be spending the entire train ride with your nerdy friends." Neptune shot.
"Well, unlike you, at least I have a few friends."
"Jerk." Neptune muttered, shaking their head, following their brother into the compartment.
Neptune shoved her stuff up onto a shelf, their ferret, Jupiter, jumping down from their trunk and onto their shoulder. Neptune took a seat, watching as their brother exchanged greetings and a handshake with two of his friends.
"Hope you don't mind if my sibling sits here. They haven't-"
Neptune sat there, in the compartment drowning out the noise of Jasper and his two friends, proceeding to stare out of the window for a solid 20 minutes, brushing off imaginary dirt from their outfit, (black cargo pants, a rainbow mushroom shirt, a long sleeve fishnet layer underneath the shirt, a grey beanie, a bunch of jewelry, and their Doc Martens) before they made an ultimate decision to interrupt the conversation they'd zoned out of.
"I'm going on a walk with Jupi." Neptune announced before leaving the compartment and strolling around.
Neptune had made it through about 2 train cars, peering into different compartments to try and find at least one person they knew. Eventually, Jupiter gave a little nudge to Neptune's cheek, a sign for them to look into a compartment.
A compartment where someone sat all alone. Just like they did. A compartment, where it looked like someone needed a little comfort.
So that's what they did. Neptune knocked on the door before opening it and asking, "Hey, you doing alright firstie?"

After hugging her parents goodbye and quickly waving at her sister one last time, Rani took a deep breath and got onto the Hogwarts Express. Her hands were shaking slightly as she cautiously walked through the halls of the train and peered into the compartments. The small spaces were filled with people chatting and laughing, making it seem like everyone knew each other.
The muggle-born girl felt a little out of place, and while she wanted to join other students and get to know them, she just couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead, Rani continued to make her way through the halls until she found an empty compartment. She made her way in, put away her suitcase with belongings, and sat down. Rani let out a sigh and forced herself to relax. While she was obviously nervous, those feelings weren't nearly as strong as her excitement for the upcoming year. She still couldn't believe she was sitting in the train that would bring her to a magic school. It felt like a dream.
Suddenly, Rani's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps. A few seconds later there was a knock, and a student, not much older than herself, opened the compartment door.
"Hey, you doing alright firstie?" On the student's shoulder sat a cute ferret, they both didn't look unkind.
Rani sat up straight and quickly ran her fingers through her hair.
"Me? Oh, yeah I'm fine," She cleared her throat and laughed nervously. "Umm, if you want to, you can sit here." Rani didn't know where to look and also wondered what to say next.
"My name is Rani, by the way." She nervously laughed again.

"Me? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Umm, if you want to, you can sit here. My name is Rani, by the way."
As soon as Neptune heard those words, they started to make their way into the compartment. Apparently, Jupiter understood as well, jumping from Neptune's shoulder into the compartment, and onto a seat across from the girl, Rani. Neptune shook their head at their companion moving inside the compartment and sitting beside Jupiter, who rested his head on Neptune's leg.
"Thanks. I'm Neptune, they/them pronouns. This is Jupiter." Neptune said, motioning towards their friendly ferret.
"You sure you're all good, Rani? You looked a little nervous. If you are I can totally understand."
Neptune had a wild first year, so here they were, making sure to look out for any other first years who could be unsure or nervous. Neptune understood being nervous. They'd be misgendered, feel terrible, but then be too difficult to stand up for themselves. This year, Neptune was going to start being more open about their gender, hopefully limiting the number of times they got misgendered.
Neptune decided to speak up again, hopefully making the first year know that it was a safe space, "You know, my first time on this train, my older brother, Jasper, immediately left me for his friends. It was really annoying. There I was, all alone, annoyed at my brother. Luckily, I found someone who is now one of my better friends. Believe me, this train may seem scary, a whole new start, a whole new world, and a whole new place, but it can be a great place to make friends if you think about it in a good way."

"You sure you're all good, Rani? You look a little nervous. If you are I can totally understand." The older student, whose name was Neptune as Rani had now learned, seemed very sweet and caring. Rani was still a little nervous, but she also felt a bit more comfortable now.
Neptune continued to talk and started to explain how once they were also left all alone in this train until they met a new friend. "Believe me, this train may seem scary, a whole new start, a whole new world, and a whole new place, but it can be a great place to make friends if you think about it in a good way."
When they were done talking, Rani relaxed a little. "Thanks, Neptune," She said softly, "You're very kind," The girl crossed her legs, attempting to appear more confident. "And you're right, I am a bit nervous. Though... I might be more than just a bit nervous." Twiddling with her fingers, Rani observed the ferret sitting across from her.
"Cute ferret," she said, quite unnecessarily pointing at the animal, when she suddenly realized something. "Oh, I forgot to mention. My pronouns are she/her, in case you were wondering. You know, since you mentioned it."
