It was the first day of school and Lyam was becoming increasingly stressed. He was going to change schools again. But this wasn't just any Muggle school, no, this was the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The one his mother before him had gone to. He was proud to be a wizard, but he was also apprehensive about the reactions of his future classmates when they saw him. He didn't look like an Englishman at all! What would they say? Could he make friends? His mother having left him alone on the station platform because she had to go to work, he got on the train a little morose, his thoughts absent and his eyes misty. He sat down in an empty compartment and began to read to avoid any conversation he didn't want to have.
The other students arrived, but immersed in his reading, Lyam did not greet them. A long time after the train had left, Lyam fell asleep with his book in his hands. He had not slept all night, being too restless to sleep. Last night he stayed up with his parents until midnight and when his mother finally forced him to go to bed, he couldn't fall asleep and spent the night tossing and turning in his bed until he saw the dawn coming through his window. At 5am he took out his book of defence against the dark arts and began to read it so as not to be bored. His mother found him dressed and sitting on his bed reading when she came to wake him up.
At breakfast he couldn't eat, and when it was almost time to leave his grandfather came to see him to say goodbye and remind him that everything would be all right. As long as he didn't go to the Hufflepuffs of course. He kissed his grandmother and father goodbye and left in the car with his mother who accompanied him to the platform.
And so he fell asleep, dreaming of wands and spells, of bearded wizards and dragons.

A redheaded teenager wandered from compartment to compartment, looking in on the occupants as he dragged his trunk behind him. He was filled with thoughts of how he usually always had someone to sit with when Ruka, his older adopted brother had been around, but now that Ruka had quit attending Hogwarts, he was going back to school alone. He didn't want anyone to feel sorry for him and he felt a little weird at the thought of going to sit with other kids in his year who might have known his connection to Ruka.

Most people were with their best friends but Jack refused to acknowledge most people as his friends. The one person he wanted to sit with probably didn't want to sit with him because they had all year to spend together in the same dorm room anyway. So he wouldn't impose himself on Flash when Flash undoubtably had other friends vying for the chance to spend time with him.

As the Welsh boy made his way through each train car, he heard some of the younger students talking amongst themselves about what awaited them at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It took him back to the days when he himself had just been a first year headed to the school for the first time. He'd had no idea what to expect except for what he'd heard from other kids. He wondered if there was anyone as curious as he was about what lay in store for them at the school. If there was, maybe he could help answer some of their questions.

At one compartment, Jack finally paused. There was no one in there except for a young boy who appeared to have fallen asleep reading a book. The boy didn't look like he was from Scotland or even the United Kingdom with features more prominent in the East. Jack wondered what his story was. He moved into the compartment and sat down, gently leaning over to try to wake the boy up.

"Excuse me," he said quietly, not wanting to startle the young man. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

Lyam slept like a fool waiting for the train to start. He had arrived so early because of his mother's work that he had had time to read half his book and fall asleep. He dreamed of knights in armour riding fire-breathing dragons, of princesses trapped for eternity in a dusty castle pursued by an old wizard with a long grey beard. He himself was the apprentice magician, flying brooms, buckets and mops in a frenzied dance through the tower's dining room. In the midst of his "work", Lyam vaguely heard someone speaking and, too concentrated to answer properly, he contented himself with a prolonged "hmhmm", thus showing his incurable laziness. The apprentice wizard, in his tower, noticed that he was quite alone in the large room and thought to himself that it was not possible that someone had spoken. Unless he was hearing voices, in which case he might be going mad. Lyam woke up slowly, fluttering his eyes to get used to the bright light coming into the car through the window. He sighed, still in the mists of sleep, and looked up to see who had dared to wake him from such a silly dream. It was a young man, presumably older than him, with red hair and hazel eyes.
"I like his hair. I should try that colour when I get home," Lyam thought, not realizing he was saying it out loud. Then he said to the young man:
"who are you ?"

@Jack Burnett sorry for the delay :cute:

Jack wondered if the boy was still dreaming when he woke up and presumably spoke his thoughts aloud about the color of Jack's hair. A half-smile crept up the corner of the older boy's lips when he heard that, but he chose not to comment on it in case he accidentally embarrassed his new compartment companion.

Well, he supposed he couldn't be considered a compartment companion yet. He hadn't yet been given permission to sit there, after all. "I'm Jack Burnett," he said in response to being asked who he was. "I'm a Slytherin fourth year. Do you mind if I sit here?" he asked again, assuming he hadn't been heard the first time. "Or would you rather I go somewhere else?"

Perhaps the boy had been having a nice dream and was annoyed with Jack for having woken him up. Maybe he just wanted to go back to sleep. Was there a reason no one else had chosen to sit in this compartment other than not wanting to disturb the boy? Perhaps the boy had insisted on having a compartment to himself. Suddenly, Jack began to wonder if coming into this one had been a good idea in the first place.

Well, he would find out soon enough once this kid told him whether he wanted him gone or not. "Sorry to wake you up. I hope I didn't interrupt any pleasant dreams."
