Sweet dreams or a train wreck?

Thursday, September 1, 2022
"Bye mom, bye dad," he mumbled tiredly to his parents, and hugged them briefly on the platform before lugging his trunk onto the steps of the Hogwarts Express. "Don't worry, I'll practice violin every day. I'll try to write often!" With that, he disappeared onto the train car.
The weight of his trunk was almost too much for our raggedly tired and small boy. Shorter than most of his peers, Avery lugging a suitcase was quite a sight -- where was the strength and determination coming from? However, anyone who knew him would see that he had grown quite a few inches over the summer. He was now an "astounding" 4 feet 9 inches or 145cm. Plus, he had managed to continue his usual morning workout routine over the summer as he had with Flash at Hogwarts, to make sure he was well-prepped for quidditch season. This small boy packed quite a punch.
He slid open a compartment door nearby, and immediately tumbled in. It was empty -- which was disappointing, because he loved company -- but it was just as well. He was tired, anyway. He shoved his trunk under the seat, and sat down with a deep sigh. "Well, let's walk around later, okay, Eddie? Find some of our friends?" he mumbled absent-mindedly to his purple Pygmy Puff, who peeked out of his pocket before diving back into his comfortable nest. Shy little puffball. "Why don't you come out for a bit of air? No one's in here," he said, and Eddie allowed the boy to place him on his shoulder. "Theeere we go, atta boy!" he said encouragingly. It wasn't every day that Eddie would leave the comfort of his pocket in a new environment.
He slapped a baseball cap onto his head, and his eyes closed naturally under the cover of the cap. He had stayed up all night packing, after finishing his violin performance and theory exams the previous day. An entire summer's worth of practicing and studying seemed to have paid off, and any energy that remained left him in an instant. Without further ado, our boy crossed his arms snugly across his chest and dozed off. Looking at him now, one might think he was quietly contemplating life instead of fast asleep, with a Pygmy Puff companion on his shoulder.
His dreams weren't so peaceful, however. Head still swimming with violin tragedies, the leery pale face of Hildegard Schneider somehow appeared. Hilda the violin-smasher! who had trashed his beloved instrument on the side of the stone fountain. "No... stop!" he protested quietly as he sleep-talked, seeing the girl raise the violin above her head once more. "Never do that again, you hear me?" A pause. "...Or I'll hex you..." he muttered, whispered in a quiet threat in his sleep-induced state, like a villain speaking into the ear of his victim. However, in his dream, he was freaking mad.

Sweet dreams or a train wreck?
house. Slytherin | ency. ✕ | outfit. ✕ | dialogue. #ffffff
The familiar tiles of the train station seem to not change from the last time she was here. She was accompanied by her aunt back then. She remembers specifically how much she was complaining about their modes of transportation. Remembering that moment, a slight smile emerged on her tinted red lips.
Pea looked around as many children her age were accompanied by their parents or family members to say goodbye to their children. She saw a fellow Slytherin who she recognize, if she's not mistaken, named Avery? doing the same thing to his parents. They look happy. A slight bitter feeling builds up in her chest when she saw the lovely exchange. Because this time, she is unaccompanied by her aunt and alone. Apparently, Mags still has not come back from her business trip to this day, even though she is missing her dearly. But no news, or call to tell her if she's okay, made the white-haired a little worried... actually, loads worried.
But she tried to ignore the dark thoughts and have her butler put away some of her luggage on the train. The white-haired grabs what's left of her luggage, which is Birkin, her lizard, alongside his aquarium. Pea stepped into the familiar train and try to find an available compartment, and found a quiet one nearby. When she enters through the door, she is greeted by none other than the boy she saw outside. Avery. Although, he seemed sound asleep.
Pea got into the compartment, and sit across from the boy. She was barely talking to Avery in her previous year, so she barely knows him. But- her little bitterness feeling she felt when she saw him outside does leave a slightly bad taste in her mouth about him. Hah- even though he hasn't done anything to her yet.
Thankfully, the boy is sound asleep or she might say something- unpleasant as she usually does.
After settling on the train and putting down Birkin's aquarium beside her, she just left quiet with her thoughts, looking out the window, until-
"No... stop!"
"Never do that again, you hear me?"
Pea slowly turns her head, who is originally looking at the view from the window unto Avery. She raised her eyebrow in confusion.
Is he.... sleep talking?
Pea continues to observe as his eyes are indeed still closed when he utters those words.
"...Or I'll hex you..."
A smile curved her lips as she watched the black-haired boy probably having a bad time in his sleep. Suddenly an idea popped up in her mind. Just a tiny payback for.... for having a lovely parent? yea- that- she's just annoyed at the thought that someone has a happier life than she is.
Pea grabs Birkin out of his aquarium and put it on top of Avery's head. Why? Just for the heck of it. She just can't wait to see his reaction to seeing a lizard on top of his head when he wakes up. And since Birkin usually barely moves, he should have comfortably stayed in Avery's head when he woke up. Pea looks proud at her ingenious idea and shushes the little Pigmy Puff at Avery's shoulder.

Sweet dreams or a train wreck?

Avery was so immersed in his dream world, that he didn't even wake up when Pea entered the compartment. He slept haphazardly through his dream, completely oblivious to her bitter stare and devious little scheme. Eddie was much more watchful and observant. The small Pygmy Puff opened his little mouth to squeak as he saw a much larger lizard being raised from his aquarium, but was soon shushed by the pretty white-haired girl, who was somehow so alluring. He scampered down Avery's arm and into the boy's hoodie pocket so that only his apprehensive and watchful purple eyes were visible.
In his dream, Schneider did not stop when she was told. The pale, sickly-looking girl let out an earth-shattering cackle, and raised the violin above her head by the neck of the instrument. "Don't...!" Avery shouted, but to no avail. With an evil flash of teeth, the girl brought the violin down with much force, right over Avery's own head!
Our boy didn't see what happened next, because it was at this moment that he was startled awake by the idea that his own rock-hard head would break his beloved instrument this time. Indeed, it was a head that had knocked into very many things during his short lifetime: Walls and balls, doors and floors, poles and goals, you name it -- his head has hit it. Maybe that was why his head was so exceedingly empty; his brains simply got knocked away each time, bit by bit.
He gasped as he awoke, jerking a little, eyes blinking open. The small boy hardly registered where he was, but one thing was certain: There was a weight on his head! "What in the world..." he muttered, fumbling to raise a hand to his head. "Did she really break my violin over my head?" he asked angrily, feeling something there, and it was spiky! Like the splinters of violin wood and popped strings! He picked it up--
"AHHH!" he exclaimed in shock, realizing it was a lizard. He did not expect it to be a moving, breathing thing, and he sure hated reptiles, snakes called Cu Sith included. Thankfully, he didn't drop it. He looked the pale guy on his lap, urging his rapid breathing to calm. "You. Are not a shattered violin," he said, stating the obvious. Where did it come from? It was only then that his eyes fell on the white-haired girl sitting by the window. She was sitting in all her elegance, in stark contrast to his awkwardness and now obvious embarrassment. Wasn't this a fellow Slytherin, Bean Elena Fowl? She had a cute name, and she was quite cute herself, to be honest. Like, if he had to decide.
The color rose to his cheeks at the sudden realization that he might've been dozing off and muttering about broken violins right in front of her. "Bean!" he quipped, pretty sure that was her name (or was it 'Bea', for 'Beatrice'?). "Your lizard, he crawled onto my head!" He reached over to pass the little guy back to his owner, a little too eagerly.
"You- you didn't hear anything strange, did you?" he asked, thinking back to his very vivid dream. Friends did tell him he would sleep-talk occasionally, after all. "Not that I was saying anything, of course." How embarrassing it would be if she had heard.

"Don't...!"
She really is curious about what this boy is dreaming about that is so demented. But she continues to observe the boy with her lizard on top of his head, mainly to make sure Birkin is not injured in the process of her ingenious mischief, but the lizard should be used to it by now. She sometimes use him to scare some of her housekeepers out of boredom and the lizard would not move at all. Pea looks at Birkin proudly at that.
"Hope you're having a great time Birks, is his hair to your liking?" Pea looks at her lizard, although he didn't move from his spot, this time he actually doesn't look too comfortable sitting on Avery's head. Pea raised her eyebrow, this is the first person Birkin doesn't seem to like.. interesting. She knew the boy is not to be trusted, and now that Birkin thinks the same, she now believes it to be even more true.
But as she is about to pick up the uncomfortable lizard, Avery jerks from his sleep, also surprising her in the process. He notices the weight in his head and finally the lizard. Just as she expected, his expression is gold- gold- gold. The shock and his scream are enough to make her chuckle.
"Good morning~ did you have a nice nap?" Pea said sarcastically knowing Avery probably didn't have a nice sleep with his nightmare and Pea's prank. But his words after that were what surprised her more.
"Bean!"
"Your lizard, he crawled onto my head!"
Pea slowly looks at him from what looks like a snide smile to annoyance. Did he just call her.. bean? She doesn't take lightly to nicknames, she especially remembers when Hana also made a nickname out of her.
"Did you just call me Bean? My name is Pea! Pea Elena Fowl, thank you very much." She hissed. And to think that he is so innocent that he thought her lizard willingly crawled on top of his head is what also surprised her. But she digresses. Back to a more interesting topic.
"You- you didn't hear anything strange, did you?" he then asked. Should she lie and save him from embarrassment? or should she do the opposite? payback for calling her bean, she decides to do what she usually does.
"Anything strange you say.... like.." Pea proceeds to mockingly mimic Avery's voice in a cartoonish way,
"NoOOooo- NeVer DoO ThAT agaAin YoOu hEAr Me~" Pea chuckles at her own immitation.
"But in all honesty Avery, who is tormenting you that bad to make you have such dreams?" Still half laughing but genuinely curious at her fellow Slytherin.

Sweet dreams or a train wreck?

Was he seeing this wrong, or was Bean actually half-sneering at him, like she was taking joy in witnessing something embarrassing? By the tone of her gibing voice when she asked about his nap, it seemed like something had happened that he was unaware of. Or was he seeing things that weren't there? Did her alluring features simply make people give her the benefit of the doubt?
However, the look she shot him was very much one of annoyance by now. "Did you just call me Bean? My name is Pea! Pea Elena Fowl, thank you very much," the platinum blond girl would hiss. Sheesh, she was kinda scary, wasn't she? "Whoops, sorry!" he apologized quickly, and really should've stopped there. However, nothing could stop Avery from running his mouth -- the boy simply had no filter from brain to lips. "But beans...peas...practically the same things, aren't they?" he would drawl with a small shrug of his shoulders. "Both mushy when overcooked, with that film on the outside." A cheeky smile suddenly appeared upon his boyish face as an amusing thought struck him. "Ha! Is that what you're like? Actually all soft and gooey on the inside, but wrapped up under that sophisticated and scary façade?" he pressed, squinting dramatically at Bean Pea as if he were dissecting her with his gaze.
At Pea's imitation of him, the color couldn't help but rise to his cheeks once more, until his ears were quite red. So his worst fear was true -- she had heard him sleep-talk, and a classmate in his own house, no less! No doubt she could use this as leverage in the future, or even tell her friends so that every Slytherin knew about this story so that even the quidditch team would make fun of him, or-- The list was endless.
He willed his big brain to come up with something -- anything -- to answer her. "That is not how I sounded!" he would protest adamantly, arms crossed, brows furrowed (though he ended up looking more like a pouting child than a disappointed adult). His pride was on the line, now. "If you must know, I was dreaming about some VERY terrifying... hags, that's who. Ones that would even strike fear within the hearts of the bravest Gryffindor. They were tearing apart my -- hair, and I bet you'd be horrified if it were you," he tried to explain. "So, it's all very serious and nothing to laugh about, mind you," he sniffed, looking back at her again as if challenging her to say otherwise.

Sweet dreams or a train wreck?
| Outfit |
Percival glanced about the train platform, taking in the hustle and bustle of those who moved up and down. The boy glanced to his left taking in the sight of the tall and thin butler next to him. It seemed surreal that he was to be escorted to the train by a butler. Maybe a year ago he would have thought his Uncle would have taken the time out of his day in order to send him off. Though, now....now he knew that all his Uncle wanted to do was lock him in the library all day studying from old dusty books. A sour look crossed his features as he looked forward. The summer had gone far away from what he had expected to happen, and all he wanted to do now was to find Hanako as quickly as possible and let off some steam.
The boy climbed on the train, paying no mind to his butler who dealt with his bag, it wasn't as if his butler had done anything to help his predicament. In truth, he had only enforced it, and that was enough to hate him just as much as he hated his Uncle. Percival's brows were furrowed together as he moved throughout the train. Aggression pulled at him, making his gate stiff. Walking down the aisle alone felt strange, and a heat broiled in his chest. His gaze flicked left and right, trying to find the familiar form of his friend...Yes, friend. The one good thing he had, and his Uncle had tried his hardest to destroy that too. Percival tried to tell himself everything would be okay. The two's relationship had survived the fight club. It had to survive this...this deliberately caused miscommunication.
Each passing car was a blow to his hope. A slash of disappointment mixed low in his stomach as he failed to see the black-haired boy. Percival was about to give up when he saw a flash of black hair in his peripheral. His eyes widened and he quickly turned to look toward the car. Hope rises high before crashing heavily into the ground. 'Chen...' he thought with strong malice. Percival stood out of the way there for a second as he studied the younger boy. A being that held enough of his anger that he wanted to lash out just by seeing him. Something to relieve the ache in his chest from the pains he had experienced for the last three months. The boy was a good proxy as any, and he pulled out his wand with thin-veiled anger. Percival readied his wand in his right hand before using his left hand to slide open the door to the carriage and pointed his wand at Chen. "Vermillious!" he called out quickly before shutting the door to trap the sparks in. Before quickly making his way down the hall. A harsh grin across his face, and a noticeably lighter step.

She honestly didn't understand why she chose to sit with the boy in front of her. Because he ended up being as annoying as her date to the blossom ball last spring. Well, at least this one actually apologizes after making fun of her name. -Nope, never mind that, unfortunately, he continued talking. "But beans...peas...practically the same things, aren't they? Both mushy when overcooked, with that film on the outside. Ha! Is that what you're like? Actually all soft and gooey on the inside, but wrapped up under that sophisticated and scary façade?"
Pea's eyebrows furrowed, as her face started to turn slightly red. How dare he compared her to beans! yes she heard several alterations of her name before, such as- 'green bean', 'chickpea', 'peanut', BUT NOW- he is gone too far, not only he is making fun of her name, he also makes fun of HER. No one should make fun of her, or her name any longer, maybe she should make them all pay. Starting with the scrawny boy. "Are you making fun of me Chen!?" When she was about to pull out her wand, suddenly she heard steps outside of their compartment. Their carriage door creaks open, but everything happens too quickly after that. A spark of lights came upon the two of them, like fireworks. The pale girl jumps and screeches so hard she hopes it would break down the compartment door.
"HOW! WHAT! WHAT A DISGRACE! UGH!!!!" Pea continues to screech while blinding lights are still jumping around in their carriage. She swears it looks like something has exploded in her compartment, because the aftermath of the attack is a complete mess, but worse, she looks like she has just been in a car crash or something. Most of her hair is standing up due to her dramatic reaction, and her clothes look like a complete mess from the firework show. Pea never look this ridiculous before in most of her life.
She is standing in shock, disbelieving what just happened to her. Her face is completely red from anger, Avery would probably see steam come out of it. Pea, still looking absolutely discombobulated, hurriedly open her compartment door, to look for the culprit of her humiliation. Now that she thinks about it, she does see a quite familiar face right before they perform the DESPICABLE spell. Although Avery is the one that he is pointing the spell to, unfortunately, the white-haired still got the full effect of it. Pea quickly turns her head towards her carriage partner, "WHO IS THAT!????" She screeches again, but this time it isn't as loud because she started to get tired from all the screeching.

Sweet dreams or a train wreck?

"Are you making fun of me Chen!?" Okay, maybe he had pushed a little too far. He didn't even know her real name, and he had started running his mouth with assumptions about her character. But, deep down inside, the small boy kind of liked pushing peoples' buttons to see what made them tick. Perhaps he had too much flair for dramatics and not enough sense of self-preservation, because it looked like Bean was going to tan his hide and quarter him. He managed a quick, sheepish smile and raised his hands in front of himself, half in defense in case she tried something, and half in an attempt to calm the scary lass. "Whoa! I wouldn't go as far as making fun of you," he protested in a weak attempt to save his hide, because it did kinda sound like he was making fun of her and her amusing name, "but y'know, I like to learn about people, so... are you like, normally this scary? Or are you just having a bad day?" Sheesh, it looked like he was going to get smacked by her wand or worse. For such a pretty girl, she sure had a scary face.
And she only got scarier. "Vermillious!" Before he knew it, a familiar ugly face ducked right into their compartment, wand extended, and Avery got a face full of green sparks. "Bloody hell!" he yelled, covering his face uselessly and falling flat across the bench, eyes still seeing green even as they were clamped shut. However, as much of a shock this all was -- getting blinded by sparks -- what tortured his ears was far more unpleasant as his classmate began to shriek non-stop. His hands immediately dove from his eyes to his ears.
"Shush already, will you! It's not time to practice your opera!" he yelled above the din, but likely to no avail. Inwardly, his musician's ears noted that her screeching was a very high E flat note. Sensitive ears still bleeding from the noise, he opened his eyes, blinked, and sat back up in his seat, heart still pounding in his chest from the unexpected attack. "You okay?" he managed to mumble to the girl and glance at her in between checking his violin case, which had tumbled from his lap. Hopefully she was better than she sounded.
That monster, Rainwood! Did he really think he could get away with that, ducking out right afterwards? "That's Percival Rainwood, my blasted dormmate and quidditch teammate. What a coward! Left before I could give him a good fight!" Avery huffed angrily, knowing full well that a fight with Rainwood could only end badly for his small self, but his emotions usually sought their way out to find relief through his big mouth. "Honestly, I would've pounded him until he was just a mass of meat and bones! Do you have someone you just hate so much that you wish every second of their life was just absolute hell from today onwards?" He clenched his fists. There had to be a way to get back at Rainwood, and he would rack his little brain until he found some respite.
