Question regarding very old bloodlines
Hello, I just recently joined this site and had an idea for my character to be from a family that in a very distant past had a connection to Veela and by some random genetic glitch - all direct descendants still carry one characteristic that could be tracked back to the said Veela ancestor.
Silvery white patch of hair.
Unfortunately I was informed that even such a minor and purely estetical feature would make my character into a Half-Veela and I'd have to adapt the stat block and abilities tied to It.
So my question is: Is there any way of finding a compromise or should I simply give up, rethink bits of my character and choose either full human or make the Veela ancestry come from a more recent inclusion to the family tree and go with a Half-Veela?
I'd be happy for any and all thoughts on this matter

Question regarding very old bloodlines
You seem to be interested to be a Veela- and if you want to be a Veela- the closest you can get is a Part Veela- and I think it's worth a shot. BUt it's up to you. WHile it may not have exactly what you want in a character, it could be fun to write about- but like I previously said- it's UP TO YOU

Question regarding very old bloodlines
I personally have known a few people on a conversational and (friendship?) level who have had this same white-streak hair trait (called Poliosis). It was actually a birthmark for them (it just means that they couldn't develop their natural hair color because they had decreased melanin in certain areas of their scalp). You could translate this to being a genetic trait in your family instead of something that came from a Veela origin (though I am sure that there is nothing against having a family legend of that sort be the belief of why it exists).
White hair in the pattern of your pfp can also occur because of intense blunt force trauma to the scalp or skull, as that can kill the nerves there and produce the same effect. Just keep in mind the site ratings as to how this could have ocurred.
In addition, streaks like that can occur if you have an autoimmune disease or a thyroid disorder (though if raised in the magical world would have likely not caused these two to occur because of magical treatments that would have happened on arrival to Hogwarts to alleviate most "Muggle Ailments"), because you are not intaking enough of a vitamin called B-12 (Cobalamin), or are stressed out (like, immensely stressed out. I don't suggest rationalizing white hair in this way.)

Question regarding very old bloodlines
Imo I think you can't say that you have any distant connection to Veela unless you take the race Veela. If you take the race Veela, you can have any connection you want to them, be it major or minor. But if you don't, I don't think you can claim your character has any connection to Veela. HOWEVER, if you just wanted the white hair thing, you can 100% do that. You just can't claim you have connection to Veela in your history. Since no matter how large or small a connection to Veela, I believe that implies that you ARE part-Veela. Which in turn requires you to choose Veela as your race.

Question regarding very old bloodlines
I'm certain that I remember that there was something concerning how much Veela blood was required to make someone considered a Veela, both in Part-Veela lore and in the race.
yet...there are some male half (or lesser)...
...The other half (or more) must be human
Which implies to me that as long as the veela is more than 4 generations away from the PC, then the PC does not necessarily have to be a part-veela. This may need verificaiton, but I don't know why a PC couldn't have a distant veela ancestor (in current lore, Piérre himself is actually less than 5% Veela, but my reapp will change this).Depending on the strength of the Veela it can take up to 4 generations of intermarriage with humans for those qualities to diminish to the point where their heritage is no longer noticeable.
... Like all so-called half-breeds, half-Veela have historically been met with contempt by those who value wizarding blood over all else. They have faced hatred for not being "pure of blood" because of their mixed heritage, though it is notable that this prejudice often will only hold so long, as quite a few pure-blooded families pride themselves on having some far-removed Veela ancestry in their bloodline. There is an allure to beauty that transcends social norms.
Question regarding very old bloodlines
As Piérre said, you can claim that there was a Veela ancestor far back in your family line – 4 generations back means your great-great-grandparents - if you don't want your character to become a part-Veela. Any actual Veela-like features (stuff that's something a normal human wouldn't have) would have to be tied to being part-Veela.
Though, I see no reason why a white streak of hair would be related to Veelas in particular. As was also pointed out, Poliosis is a thing. I have an irl friend who has a round spot of white hair behind his left ear.

Question regarding very old bloodlines
Okay! Thanks a lot for all the answers and tips!
I didn't really want to play with Half-Veela abilities, but thought that having a very distant relative that was a Veela/Half-Veela would be a nice way of enhancing my character's backstory, while not getting anything I shouldn't have.
Since the person that was in charge of my validation required me to explain in a non-magical way, why my character has white hair, I did go for the Poliosis as many of you mentioned, but I'd still prefer adding in the little bit of mystery of having a Veela ancestor - even though It was so long ago, that there would be only a bits of white hair left in their genes, but If It would sound better, I can try and make It more *muddy* and let each reader of my character's backstory decide If they think that It is really something inherited from a Veela ancestor, or just simple generational Poliosis that runs in the family (since other family members have similar white patches of hair).

Also, I was very pleasantly surprised when I rolled for a wand and got a wand with Veela's hair as a core after I already written my backstory about having a Veela ancestor, so I kinda wanna fight a little for my backstory now

Question regarding very old bloodlines
Oh good to know!
So 4 generations (great-great-grandparents) could be Veela even if your current line isn't?

Question regarding very old bloodlines
@Kim Sato
Edit: this assumes that said ancestor married a normal person, as did all of their descendants. The older relatives would then all be part-Veela, but the last in the line wouldn't. The relation would be too distant to show anymore.
@Invis Whitewood
As mentioned, a far-away relation wouldn't show in your character. No race = no gain from the race. This means that your character and their family could say "we have these white streaks in our hair because we have Veela ancestors" in an RP, but in your ency (where the facts go), it would be mentioned as "the Whitewood family claims to have Poliosis because of a distant Veela ancestry" or similar. As it would be that, only a claim, not an actual fact.
I hope this clears up what you wanted to know. If there's any follow-up questions, please ask away.
Correct. That would make your character 1/16 or 6.25% Veela, but they wouldn't have any Veela-specific features or abilities anymore. This should be the same for all other "-part" races as well, like for example giant. Most of our special race characters are 1/2 or 1/4 blood. So 4 generations (great-great-grandparents) could be Veela even if your current line isn't?

Question regarding very old bloodlines
Hello Gryffindor mom, uh I do have a question regarding something similar- is there a race here where you can be 1/2 one and other half human? Instead of descended in four generations... x.x
