Wand of Dragon and Ash  Finished
Rose excitedly burst though the shop door of Ollivander’s as her brother Mikhail trailed in shortly behind her. Her mother was still recovering from her illness and couldn’t come with them, much to Rose’s disappointment. Her father was still in line at Borgin and Burkes waiting to buy her school books and permitted Rose and Mikhail to go get her wand without him as he knew she was eager to go.
Rose couldn’t wait to get her own wand. Her brother had told her all about his first experience and how he got paired with his Maple and Dragon Heartstring wand. Her Father’s was a English Oak and thunderbird tail feather wand, and her Mother’s was Laurel and unicorn hair. She wondered curiously what wand she may get today.
“Welcome in! I’m Mr. Ollivander, how may I help you today?” A raspy voice beckoned from behind the wooden counter.
Rose saw a well aged man with plumy silvery white hair, it almost looked like a wispy cloud. She smiled at him as she walked up to the counter.
“Good day, sir!” She greeted eagerly. “My name is Rose and I need to find a wand for my first year at Hogwarts.” She said pointing to a spot on her supplies list.
“Aww Miss Nier!” The wand shop owner’s eyes lit up in recognition. “I’ve been expecting you!” He said beaming with delight.
Rose stared at him stunned.
“H-Have we met before?” She stammered awkwardly.
Mr. Ollivander chuckled.
“No no, my dear. But I know your father and brother quite well. Specifically your brother. Why, I feel like it was yesterday when both of them had come here to get their wands, on separate occasions of course.” He said with amusement dancing in his eyes.
Rose noticed her brother duck his head in embarrassment.
“I may or may not have started a…small fire when I was testing some wands out.” He scratched his head awkwardly with a sheepish smile.
Rose stared at her brother wide-eyed in disbelief.
“Ahh, don’t worry to much about it.” Ollivander said with a wave of his hand. “Nothing that couldn’t be fixed. Now, shall we see what wand chooses you, Miss Nier?”
Rose nodded eagerly with as a giant smile appeared on her face.
She saw him pull out a wand box from underneath the counter. Opening the lid she saw a reddish brown wand with distinct black markings.
“Here we have a Beech and snallygaster heartstring wand, 12 inches, pliant. Go ahead and give it a wave.” Mr. Ollivander instructed as he passed the wand to Rose.
Taking a deep breath, Rose waved the wand and suddenly a burst of wind erupted from the wand, blowing away a stack of papers that were sitting farther down in the counter.
Rose looked mortified.
“Erm, is that supposed to happen?” She asked nervously.
Ollivander smiled encouragingly.
“Oh it’s all very normal. This clearly isn’t the wand for you but it’s very rare that a wand ever matches the first time.”
Rose handed the wand back to Ollivander and after putting it away, he disappeared to a nearby shelf and pulled out a smaller box this time and brought it to the counter.
“This time we have a Hazel and veela hair wand, 9 3/4 inches, hard flexibility.”
Rose took the wand and gave it a whirl.
This time the wand spewed sparks and embers, one of which landed on one of the papers that had been blown over previously.
Rose watched in horror as the paper started to take flame.
With a wave of his own wand, Mr. Ollivander put it out before it got out of hand.
“I am so sorry!” Rose exclaimed flustered.
“Hahahah! Yes, it’s not just me!” Her brother cackled gleefully.
Rose shot him a sharp unappreciative glare.
“Nothing to worry about, although I think I see a family tradition starting.” Ollivander observed with a chuckle at his own joke.
“Certainly not that one either.” Ollivander observed. Putting the wand away and with a thoughtful pause, he disappeared to somewhere in the back of the shop.
Rose eagerly awaited his return. Within a few moments he had reappeared but paused mid walk back to the counter and glanced from the wand box to Rose.
“I believe I may have found it…” he said as he returned with a new box.
Opening the box, Rose saw a pale grayish brown wand that was slightly curvy and reminded her of a gnarled vine.
“Here we have an Ash wand with dragon heartstring, 10 1/4 inches, whippy flexibility.”
Rose took the wand hoping that he was right that this was the wand for her.
Hesitating she gave it a wave and immediately rose colored sparks danced around the room before finally dissipating. Rose had a warm feeling as she felt this wand was different from the other two she had tried.
“At last!” Ollivander cheered with a smile. “We’ve finally found your match.”
Rose stared in awe as she gazed at her wand it was perfect. It was a wand of Ash wood and Dragon Heartstring that would her faithful companion throughout her studies.
“The ash wand cleaves to its one true master and ought not to be passed on or gifted from the original owner, because it will lose power and skill. This wand is attracted to those possessing the divination or legilimency gift.” Mr. Ollivander informed.
“Thank you so much Ollivander for helping me to find my wand!” Rose beamed still enamored with her new wand.
“Way to go sis!” her brother smiled, patting her on the back.
“My pleasure. It is always a joy to pair a wand with its owner.” Ollivander said with a warm smile.
“Make sure to pay Mr. Ollivander.” Mikhail reminded Rose with a nudge.
“Ahh yes, that’ll be 2 galleons.” Ollivander said with warmth in his eyes.
Rose pulled out the galleons from her handbag and handed them to Ollivander.
“Thank you so much again Mr. Ollivander!” Rose called as she began exiting the store with her brother.
“Farewell and good luck!” Mr. Ollivander cheered with a wave.
