Leaving Hogwarts for the summer
July 2022

This felt like a bad idea... part of her was already starting to regret the choice to have lied to her mother about where exactly she was going to be for the summer and agreeing to allow her father to spirit her away until summer camp. After all, Illowy wasn't completely in the dark. She knew what he'd done, or tried to anyway. She knew he was, by no means, a good man. And yet, she'd found herself writing to him anyway agreeing let him pick her up for the summer.

Maybe it was curiosity getting the best of her, wanting to see where he'd been all this time, maybe it was a hope that he might be able to help her find her cousin... or maybe find herself. She'd spent so many years of her life trying to be exactly like her mother; practically perfect in every way, with perfect grades, a perfect reputation, perfect temper... that just wasn't her. Illowy wouldn't admit it aloud for a second time how worn out she was, constantly trying to be everything her family expected her to be.

However, that wasn't to say that the influence of her father was going to be any better. He'd made it clear what kind of person he thought she was going to be when she was grown. Something untamable, aggressive, and brutal, what a darkness that would be undeniable. She wanted to believe that wasn't true. Her friends certainly didn't think that was true, but friends did usually tend to keep a favorable opinion of one another.

The wisest course of action, she'd decided, was to simply get through it. A month and some change to see what she could infer about the man she'd wondered about for so long. If anything went south, it wasn't like she was a child anymore, she could get herself out of it... she was pretty sure she could get herself out of it.

The duration of the train ride, Illowy kept to herself, staring at the window, completely lost to her thoughts as her hand mindlessly stroked Killian in her lap until the train finally pulled into up to the platform. She swallowed hard, her eyes flicking through the crowd of parents as her peers hurried from their seats to get their things and finally go home. This, she was certain, was the first time she'd found herself searching for the face of her own parent since returning from first year.

The snake took her time disembarking from the train, keeping her things close with Killian on her heels. Hopping down to the platform, she looked around herself, wondering if he'd even shown up. For a moment, she thought maybe fate had snatched her decision away from her for her own good; deciding this child truly wasn't capable of making such brash decisions. Then her father seemed to suddenly appear in the crowd and start towards her.

Every time she laid her eyes on him, it was a terribly strange feeling of fear and familiarity...and anger. As he approached, dragging a trolley effortlessly with him. She felt Killian press himself against her legs, seeming to reflect her own edge, "There you are." he hummed, offering a stiff smile before taking her chin in his fingers and turning her face, "I see you took care of that nasty bit of business finally." he spoke, referring to the curse she'd been under the last time they'd spoken face to face.

"I told you it was nothing." she said, keeping her voice level, and void of emotion before pulling her face away. One thing she'd never allow herself in front of him, was to give any impression of being intimated, much less allow him to see a hint of softness in her. Illowy didn't trust him, not right now. And the last thing she needed was for him to think that there might've been a way he could get under her skin. He couldn't know how easily he could get to her.

The man seemed amused by her response more then anything, "I didn't expect anything less then for you to have it handled." her father assured before making a sweeping gesture, "We'll be staying in London while you're here. I have a place for us." easily, he lifted her trunk onto the trolley before she piled the rest of her things and followed his lead.

"A place..." she muttered, what exactly did that mean? A house, a flat, a refuge for other criminal lycanthropes? There really wasn't a way of knowing what she was about to walk into, and in the moment she was realizing she probably should have asked more questions then just blindly walking into the den... wow she truly hadn't thought a lick of this through.

"I'm sure this will be an enlightening visit for the both of us."

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
