Homecoming

@Henry Knight
The estate was a flurry of activties from attendants running this way and that to make sure everything was up to the pristine eye of Adrianna Jangleton, a woman a few dared cross. The towering Christmas tree in the dining hall demanded attention having been labored over by for more than a day and regardless of where you went, holiday decorations screamed at you from every direction. Everyone was on edge, it had been a while since the family had hosted any sort of gathering for those of their own blood but one day, Elena's father had up and decided it was time to expand their roots, it was anyone's best guess what he meant by that but when Robhurst Jangleton made a decscion, you didn't disagree with it. Safe to say, Elena thought the estate looked at least a little more lively now with a bit of color added to it's dull grey and brown walls as she smoothed the front of her dress, a dark blue lined with silver and her hair gathered up in a bun.
She had simply rolled her eyes when Father had told her to try to act sensible. "As if I'm the troublesome one here.." She muttered under her breath shooting a glance at where her brother, Darren Jangleton was off trying to coax a house elf into sneaking him some extra pieces of the pie before the main event was even underway. She'd stood with her mother greeting the various guests and individuals who entered their home, some faces she knew, others not so much but they all held one thing in common with their pristine suits and their struts of confidence, these were figures of the highest degree, many sharks treaded this water and while Elena didn't hold the highest degree of approval of some of these people choosing to remain impassive as usual despite the looks some gave her, it wasn't exactly a hidden fact now she'd broken the Slytherin trend in the family but Elena had merely shrugged her shoulders at the thought.
Houses, wealth and honeyed words, such material things. At one point, she nudged the steward who was silently checking off the guests as they filtered in and making sure no one was trying to pull a fast one. Safe to say, no one who had earned Robhurst Jangleton's ire over the past couple of months would be making an appearance and the steward was keeping an eye out for that. "Who else are we waiting on, Liam?" The girl said attempting to peer over the man's shoulder at the parchment he was furiously scribbling at with the quill as the steady stream of people continued to pour in chattering and mingling among themselves. Liam paused from his work choosing to give Elena an disapproving glance before simply returning to checking off people's names but muttered out of the side of his mouth."Rest assured, Miss Jangleton, you will be able to rest your feet before long. I don't expect your mother expects you to stand here for too long, patience."
The brunette merely let out a huff of frustration at his words. "That's not what I meant. Loosen up a little, will you?" The steward raised his eyes to heaven wondering what sin he had commited to have such a fiery personality tag along with him. Thankfully, he was saved by Adrianna's Jangleton gentle cough as her sharp gaze manevured onto Elena, a warning most. Merely rolling her eyes, the girl returned to her mother's side. There was no winning here apparently. "Guess we'll find out together." As it turned out, they didn't have to wait long as the sound of echoing footsteps on the tiled floor sounded again and Liam finally rolled up the long piece of parchment into his suit before hurrying to tend to the newcomer's needs whatever they might be as Elena frowed before turning to her mother. "Who are they?" She asked and in response, Adrianna merely tapped the bridge of her nose before turning and walking forth, nothing was ever clear in this place but if there was a time and opputurnity to find anwsers, there wouldn't be a much better time than now. "Welcome." She would chirp cheerfully at the newcomers at her mother's warning look.
