Where all my friendships came from
Flourish and Blotts
Diagon Alley was one of Sophie's favorite places in the wizarding world, it's where she made most of her friends and got her pet. It's also where she got all her school supplies for her first year. When her mom reminded her about shopping at Diagon Alley, she jumped at the chance. Sophie still had a clear memory of begging her mom to go alone, she loved shopping alone ever since she got her pet cat. The book store, or Flourish and Blotts, was an excellent place to start at.
She entered this shop and started looking for the books needed. She found all sorts of books, even a journal who wrote it's own biography. Sophie might buy it if she had enough sickles left over after her 'shopping party'. She used to think shopping was boring, and once actually fell asleep when she was shopping at a muggle store. She rummaged through several books, most of them were quite interesting. What's this? Sophie found a book called Bewitched baking. Well, that didn't sound good to her. What type of books does this shop even sell?
Strange books made her uncomfortable. She went to look for new books, hoping to run into someone she could make as a friend...

Where all my friendships came from
Finn wasn't allowed to go alone. He got it, he was eleven and shopping in a wizarding store for maybe the third time ever; despite this, he desperately wanted to do his own shopping. His aunt was only a little ways away, scanning through some books she'd had her eyes on for a bit. Finn looked at his list once more, scanned over the spines of each book, and moved onto another section. He'd been repeating this process after refusing Aunt Kory's help, swearing he could find his books on his own.
Finn let out a hum/squeal of victory as he found his first book, taking it from the shelf and tucking it under his arm and going back to looking.
Kory explained to him that the books here weren't like the books of muggle libraries, that he wasn't to pick anything that wasn't needed for his first year and to not touch anything he didn't know the purpose of. Finn listened, he usually did, but he couldn't help but wonder what all of it was.
Finn's eyes landed on a person, maybe he could push down his pride and ask them.
"Hello, I'm Finn. Um, do you know where 'Hogwarts, A History' by Garius Tomkink is?" he asked politely.

Where all my friendships came from
She wasn't watching where she was going at the moment, still very concerned about strange books. Sophie happened to wander near someone, unaware of them, they asked her something. "Hello, I'm Finn. Um, do you know where 'Hogwarts, A History' by Garius Tomkink is?" He asked. Sophie looked up, trying to remember if she saw this face before. The answer was no, she hadn't seen anyone looking like him before, so he must be a first year. Sophie shrugged, trying to remember which it was.
"I'm not sure, but I think it was that way." She said, pointing in a direction. She was uncertain it was the right direction since she couldn't remember where it was when she was shopping. Making new friends was always fun for Sophie, even if they were only an acquaintance. She would be happy to help him out more if he needed it, but her mom always told her worry about herself first. She looked around the great shelves of books everywhere, becoming more uncertain by the moment. Her mom told her sometimes the books move around, like when customers accidentally misplace a book.
As thoughts flooded her brain, she tried to keep her attention on the Finn guy, focusing on his reply.

Where all my friendships came from
"I'm not sure, but I think it was that way." they responded, pointing in a certain direction. He studied their face for a second, seemingly attempting to read them. They seemed a bit confused, maybe uncertain? Could also be frightened, nervous - maybe even excited?
He nodded and thought for a second before eventually speaking,"Thank you." he smiled quickly walking over to the place they'd pointed. He skimmed the spines of the books, taking in the scent of the older ones and smiling softley. After finding the book, he hesitated; he looked back to the person who'd helped. Finn took a breath before turning towards them and swiftly walking back over.
"I don't think I ever asked for your name." he seemed to hum, looking at the
books on the shelf beside them. A quick look over the shelf showed a number of interesting books there. One was titled Bewitched Baking, a sharp grin took over his face as he grabbed it from the shelf and studied the table of contents. His aunt was sure to love it.
Finn's eyes drifted to where his aunt was, her piercing green eyes watched him in complete silence. She knew of Finn's discomfort with magical beings, both human or not. He hadn't ever known any other than his family, other witches and wizards seemingly frightened him. Finn shot her a look, telling her was okay but she straightened her posture and mouthed 'Veela' at him.
Right, his grin disappeared into a frown, Veela.
"If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to speak with you more." he said, attempting to school his disappoint at the reminder of most of the wizarding world's prejudice of half-anythings.

Where all my friendships came from
One thing Sophie never expected to find in Diagon Alley was money, or extra money. She was afraid she wasn't technically finding it, it might've been stealing. She saw a woman drop a few sickles, Sophie went over and picked it up. She tried seeing if the woman was still there, nope, she wasn't, so Sophie assumed she could keep the money. Oh well. Sophie did that quite often, even if the person was still in sight. Probably because of her addiction to Chocolate frogs. She heard footsteps coming closer, she turned to look. Finn was coming back.
Sophie tried to focus, hardly worked because all she could think of was Chocolate frogs. Finally, she focused when Finn said something."I don't think I ever asked for your name." He said. "If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to speak with you more." Sophie hesitated. "I'm Sophie, do you want to be friends or something? I'll understand if not." She took a deep breath. "You're going to Hogwarts right? If yes, what house do you expect to be sorted into? I was sorted into Hufflepuff." She added on quickly.
Was that too much? Or was that not enough? Ugh, with other people I guess I'll never know what their personality is like until they tell me. She frowned, but tried to make a smile, but it ended up as a frown-smile. She looked up at Finn, then looked back down. She was feeling what she couldn't describe with words. I think I'm mad, I mean, I've never been mad at anyone in Hogwarts. Well maybe not. She was not mad, maybe she was in between mad and happy? But then, that's probably what happens when she doesn't know what the other person thinks of her and she fears it may be something negative.Word count: 302

Where all my friendships came from
"I'm Sophie, do you want to be friends or something? I'll understand if not." Finn's disappointment quickly melted away into curiosity. His head tilted and he watched her. She seemed a bit nervous.
"You're going to Hogwarts right? If yes, what house do you expect to be sorted into? I was sorted into Hufflepuff." she added on quickly.
Ah, something he was good at. He grinned, completely forgetting everything else. "I studied a lot about the houses, my aunt's father is from a long line of witches and wizards. They told me all about the houses and which ones they came from; crazy, the lot of 'em. I don't expect much, but my aunt seems set on me being Ravenclaw." he giggled. "Say's I'm far too witty to be anything else, though her father thinks I'll be Gryffindor; like him." Finn noticed he was rambling a bit, he paused for a short second, looking around and bringing on a casual-happy face.
He lowered his voice, only allowing Sophie to hear. "I would like to be friends, if you'd let me. That is, however, I'd like to grasp your opinions on certain things. I wouldn't want to argue with friends because we disagree on something big." while he could admit that seemed a bit ominous, he couldn't really find it in himself to care. He'd ask a few questions, whether she thought blood status mattered, what she thought of the houses (he'd learned of a lot of past prejudice against some), then what she thought of half-breeds.

Where all my friendships came from
That was quite a lot to ask, but Sophie loved long questions and especially to answer them. "Hm okay, I'd be happy to be friends with you. One of the reasons why I came here was to make new friends." She said. "And I also like how you speak." Oops. She thought. That was probably not the right thing to say, actually, nothing was the right thing to say. Sophie should have just kept quiet after she said her first part. It's not like she was lying, it was true she did like the way Finn spoke. But she still felt guilty.
The more time passed, the more she regretted it. Hopefully it's fine, nothing to worry about. She thought, trying to cheer herself up. Hopefully everything is fine and I didn't just ruin the friendship for sounding dishonest. Well, maybe that was an exaggeration. Their friendship had only lasted for like, one minute? It certainly wouldn't crumble just because of one thing Sophie said, and besides, it was a compliment. Oh well, let's see what he thinks about what I just said. And I seriously hope I didn't just ruin everything. Sophie had ruined things a lot. She remembered in second grade at muggle school, she was put in detention. It was probably a dream but she wasn't sure. When Sophie was in detention, she wanted more detention for some reason and started being insane and drawing on the walls and spraying the teacher. Now that she thought about it, it was probably a dream. But that didn't matter now because this situation was different,Word count: 266@Finn Taylor

Finn grinned, "Right, I'm often told I speak as an old spirit." he let the compliment go by and moved onto his questions. "Now, to know we'd get on as friends, I'll ask a few questions, you'll answer and then you can ask a few questions. Or I could just ask the questions, not all people like to be quizzical." he explained. He did understand not all people liked to talk, just as he preferred to be able to talk. Despite his outwardly shy and stand-offish nature, he did like to talk.
"Question one, where do you stand on the matter of blood status?" he was technically muggleborn, plus this was something he deemed important to know the answer to; he couldn't get along with someone who made their entire personality about their prejudice against other bloods. "Question two, do you hold any grudges or dislikes towards any particular house?" while he was certain most didn't care at this point, he wouldn't put it past anyone to still hate particular houses. "Question three, what do you think of half-breeds?" Finn was a half-veela, if he ever wanted to tell friends, he'd have to know their opinions on the matter first. He asked three, there weren't many other questions he felt the need to ask just then.

Where all my friendships came from
Finn gave Sophie three questions for her to answer, but the words flew around in her head like crazy so she sorted it out. A lot like this:
Where do you stand on the matter of blood status?
"I'm a half-blood, my mom is a witch and my dad is a muggle. Did I answer that correctly? Because I'm not sure what that question meant, anyways, on to the next one."
Do you hold any grudges or dislikes towards any particular house?
"No, I don't. Although I will hold grudges on particular people if they are rude and selfish, next question."
What do you think of half-breeds?
"Wait, what is a half-breed?"
Sophie didn't know why she didn't know what a half-breed was, it sounded so familiar. She hoped Finn could tell her, because she was confused. Why'd he ask me these questions? They sound like questions about prejudice with blood status and houses. She did want to know what was going on in Finn's mind but that was his business, not her's. "And on second thought, after you tell me the answer to my previous question, why did you ask me these questions?" I think I said the wrong thing again, what is wrong with my darn mouth? She felt guilty immediately. Anyways, it was probably better to focus on Finn's answer than getting lost in her mind and making Finn think she's insane.Word count: 335@Finn Taylor

Where all my friendships came from
Finn listened, waiting as she answered each question.
"...where do you stand on the matter of blood status?"
"I'm a half-blood, my mom is a witch and my dad is a muggle. Did I answer that correctly? Because I'm not sure what that question meant, anyways, on to the next one."
Close enough, a half-blood likely doesn't hate muggleborns or other half-bloods.
"...do you hold any grudges or dislikes towards any particular house?"
"No, I don't. Although I will hold grudges on particular people if they are rude and selfish, next question."
Good, wouldn't want to be sorted into a house and suddenly have my first friend hate me.
"...what do you think of half-breeds?"
"Wait, what is a half-breed?"
What? his eyes widened and he looked at her, a bit of hope in his eyes.
"A half-breed is a mix between a non-human creature and a human. Whether that human be muggle or of wizard blood, doesn't effect the half-breed all too much." he didn't want to consider his first friend hating the idea of half-breeds.
"I, personally, don't think blood or species defines a being. Therefore, I couldn't care about blood status or if one is a half-breed. It wouldn't dictate my opinion of them."
