Jul 24, shopping in Diagon Alley

Sophie and her mom had just entered Diagon Alley to go shopping. As they walked to the Apothecary shop, Sopie's mom said "Okay Sophie, feel free to shop anywhere you like as long as it's in Diagon Alley. I will be shopping, and when you are done, just meet me outside of the Apothecary shop. Got it?"

Sophie hesitated.

"Where will you be shopping? Can I come with you?"

"Yes dear, you can come with me. I will be shopping in the Apothecary shop, and I doubt you like that place. You can shop on your own, don't be a scaredy cat, you're already 12."

"Where will I go then?"

"Anywhere silly, you can shop anywhere as long as it is in Diagon Alley."

Her mom entered the Apothecary shop and Sophie decided it was better to shop on her own. Her mom never told her what she should spend her money on. She tried not to act lost because she didn't want people asking 'Are you lost?' or 'Where's your guardian?'. Her eyes fell onto a shop which must have been a pet shop. Magic Menagerie? I have never heard of that before. She thought. She walked into the shop.

Sophie had realised she had enough galleons for a pet and she now couldn't wait to get one. As she wandered into the Menagerie, her eyes immediately fell onto all the different animals at the shop. She wanted each one. But then, she only had enough galleons to buy one pet (or maybe two if it was a toad or a rat). The shop runners were busy helping another student out, so Sophie decided to look around the place first. She saw a snake which immediately made her jump back. They sell snakes here? She thought. Maybe the snakes were for parseltongues but she wasn't one so no thank you.

Her eyes then fell onto a Silver Mackerel Tabby (or was it a Grey Mackerel Tabby?) who looked like it was born yesterday. She went up to the tabby and it stared at her. "Aw.. I think I'll buy you." Sophie said.

"Hello there young lady, you would like to buy her?"

Sophie turned around.

"Yes, who are you?"

"Oh me? I am Ernest Witticker, one of the people who run this shop."

"Hi, um.. how much does she cost?"

"The Silver Mackerel Tabby? That would be 10 galleons."

"Thanks, do you know when she was born? she looks quite small to me."

"This July, on the 15th."

"I'll buy her!" Sophie said, full of excitement.

Ernest smiled. "Anita! Someone wants to buy a cat!"

"Okay, now that would be 10 galleons."

A voice said from nearby. Sophie looked in the direction and saw an old woman who was only about an inch taller than Sophie. Sophie handed Ernest and Anita 10 galleons. Sophie smiled. "Thank you very much!" She said as she turned to leave. Oh! I better ask what her name is! She turned back. "Sorry, I forgot to ask you, what's her name?"

"We haven't named her yet, you can choose the name."

Anita replied.

"Thanks again!"

Sophie walked out of the Menagerie with the cat- no wait, her cat. She was so excited to show her mom! She walked down to the Apothecary shop, where her mom was. "There you are! Where were you? And why do you have a cat?"

"I bought her, she's mine now."

"And I named her Lavender." She quickly added.

"Sophie, I'll let you keep her only if you promise to take good care of her."

"I promise I will, mom! Just please let me keep her!"

Her mom smiled.

"Okay then, you may keep Lavender."
