"INCOMING!"

The giant's roar echoed beyond the sides of the hill, a flock of birds was sent off seeking the embrace of a rising sun on the horizon. The red morning light cut a dark lines across Hugh's face with sideburns blocking out his jaw more aggressively than before. His silhouette stood like a solitary tree upon the hill, a sole survivor of a windswept forest. The first stone dug into the ground near to Serena, maybe six foot off his intended target. A practice round to see if she was in range. Dirt scattered with the wind as silence fell over the grounds again.

Hugh's breath was heavy and slowly building down to a stable pace. Imagined lines were drawn through the grass. One line ran straight for the goblin facing him in the distance, another drew a circle around his current range. Two steps ahead of him offered insight on where to start as several possibilities presented themselves beyond that. His 'broom' was lying somewhere down the middle off the side. A point to reach during the initial bombardment. He took note of the young tree dangling in the air towards the left, it was looking way too smug.

Inhaling deeply, the giant set his body in motion. One large stomp straight ahead, a low thud announcing the start of this massive chess game. His long body stretched and arched as it hurled one rock through the air. A small boulder was now making its way towards what was seemingly going to be a direct hit. Hugh wasted no time in turning his body around full circle and launching the next rock straight after. He leaped again, grabbed the next stone still embedded in the dirt, and used both hands to make it follow the rest of its mates.

Serena was bound to start using magic in retaliation. She wouldn't be strong enough to physically shrug off both the boulder and the damage it would inflict. Any object could be turned back around. It could be transfigured into any form. And worst of all, it could be reduced to atoms before his eyes. Hugh was aware how quickly the battle could turn on him, so it was a first priority to keep the pressure up. Which is why his long legs were already carrying him to his next target.

Her head jerked up as she heard his voice in the distance. Her body reacted on its own, staggering to the side a little as her gaze focused on a stone heading fast in her direction. It landed not too far from her. Staring down at it, "Fuc-" Serena cursed under her breath. She had not been ready. It likely missed her because Hugh's aim was slightly off. She had not done enough to cause that.

Taking a step back, she steadied herself on the ground. He could reach her. From that distance, he could still reach her. And if one of these things hit her, it would hurt like hell. Losing her footing would be the worst thing she could do in this situation.

She immediately looked up to search the skies for another attack. He was not done yet, she knew that. This was not the first time they had trained together. It had almost become a regular occurrence by now. From the corner of her eye, she could see him moving. Her priority, however, was making sure she survived the bombardment of stones likely coming her way before taking out the source of them. "Sh-shitshitshit-" Serena instantly started as her body burst into action, energy coursing through her veins as the adrenaline quickly kicked in.

Serena immediately leapt to the right, diving into the ground and moving straight into a roll to quickly get out of the way of the second boulder that was headed her way. Immediately, she pushed herself off the ground and steadied her palms against the grass below. As though she was a runner, she was already in the starting position to push herself off and start moving. Catching her breath, she panted ever so softly. He was being relentless today. She had to do something before he got the advantage.

With no hesitation, Serena pushed herself off the ground and beelined straight for a large tree that was nearby. It provided a tiny bit of cover. And more than that, it was a little closer to the part-giant. She needed to get close enough to return the attack but stay out of his rather long arms' reach.

Raising her left hand, she pushed into the air with her fingers spread out aiming towards the next stone heading towards her, "Confringo!" Blasting the stone into fragments, she ducked down whilst turning her face away a little to prevent getting hit by any of them.

The fragments fell onto the ground around her. She needed cover. More than that, she needed to keep him occupied, "Avis!" She continued as she pulled her left hand that had blocked the side of her face when she turned away back and immediately pushed forward her right hand. Smoke quickly filled the air and the sound of a large blast echoed through the grounds. From the tip of her fingers, birds started to emerge.

Using the flock of birds that flew towards Hugh as cover, she quickly tried to duck behind the large trunk.

Stopping for a second, to see what Serena had just conjured, Hugh's eyes widened. He wasted not one second more in getting to his own "broom". "You've got to be kidding me, you cheatin' pointy-eared-gremlin." He grumbled to himself as he was still registering the fact a flock of birds was now going to be chasing him all over the field. Large long legs, leaped over the hill and in no time, Hugh managed to reach the 'Autumn Cruise'.

As the birds were upon him, the giant crouched down, lifted his entire tree of a broom and swung it hard towards the flock. Like a fly that came buzzing in on a summer night, Hugh would swat away all the birds in one giant blow of his broom. A whirlwind of autumn coloured leaves swirled around him, as he forcefully pulled himself in his seat and started to fly.

"Come on, come on…" He grumbled, trying to wish himself to be faster than his broom allowed him to be. With increasing speed, Hugh would come approaching in a large arch from Serena's right field. She would see the giant pull a young tree from the ground and point it straight at her much like a knight would hold a lance. (Accuracy 25)

Taking complete advantage of his distraction, even if it was a mere moment, Serena slipped behind a tree trunk. Soft pants escaped her lips as she tried to catch her breath. This was hectic. They had gone through these sorts of scenarios time and time again. Training, they called it - and it had actually helped if she was honest. But now was not the time to think about it. She had to focus on the session. Hugh would definitely waste no time in taking advantage of her lack of focus if she allowed him to - she knew that better than anyone.

Pressing herself back against the tree trunk, she poked her head out a tiny bit to see where her 'enemy' for the day was. She was careful not to stick her head out too far, just in case there were any rocks coming her way. From a quick glance, he was running somewhere. Perhaps to get another rock or find some cover from the birds or something. She had no idea. She also did not have time to think about it.

Serena needed to come up with a plan. What in the name of Bodrig was she supposed to do when he was definitely far stronger than her - and far more daring? Think, think, think, damnit, She repeated to herself mentally, she needed to do something smart. That was the only way she would survive this. She was not nearly as strong but she was a skilled spellcaster, she was nimble and she was accurate. In a training session, she needed to focus on two main things. One was improving her weaknesses, so they stopped making her so weak. And the second was making her strengths even stronger. But with Hugh, it was not about training. It was about surviving.

They had an agreement. To go all out. That was the only way to get better. It was not a lack of care or a burning hatred for each other. Rather, it was because when you were in dangerous situations, going all out had to be enough.

Serena gritted her teeth. She did not fear him or his strength. He could crack skulls, throw boulders at her or try and impale her with a tree. But she did not have to let him succeed. "Lubricus!" (Rolled 27 Wisdom) She slid out from behind the tree, quickly trying to dash to another to avoid him. As she moved, she flicked her finger towards his broom. It shot towards him but it was not incredibly accurate (Rolled 12 Accuracy) and may have missed hitting the target if she was unlucky as she skidded directly underneath his broom on the ground, leaving a track under her feet (Rolled 32 Evasion).

Without hesitation, she continued - assuming that her first spell might have missed. Unfortunately, she wanted the duo of spells for a most effective combination but... for now, this would do, "Indomitus!" (Rolled 25 Wisdom) Serena called out from the ground, straight after skidding over the grass. This time, the spell shot directly towards him as she was more careful with the spell. Whether or not it hit, however, depended on how evasive he was (Rolled 23 Accuracy).
