credit for the pun goes to Google; I apologise greatly for my sense of humourCassie Heather McGregor-Martin arrived at the London Quidditch Stadium in a whirlwind of suitcases (well, one suitcase), hair (okay, maybe it was pulled out of the way by a hair bobble), and hugs (to a small number of people). Actually, 'whirlwind' was probably hyperbole, but the fact remained that Cassie was excited, and loud, and very much assuming that all of her friends would be able to snag a tent together.
Hahaha... no.
Charles had apparently already promised Yefim, the Durmstrang champion, that he'd stay in a tent with the rest of Durmstrang's team for the hexiwizard tournament. "Who cares about Yefim?" Cassie argued, but it was no good. Charles had made a promise, as stupid as it was, and he was going to stick to it. The Beauxbatons girl was certain he'd regret it - after all, Charles constantly talked about how much he hated his classmates - but that was no longer her problem. Charles would surely come join their tent after a day or so, after the first Durmstrang fight.
Scarlett was still stuck at home. Ayu wasn't even coming. So it would just be Cassie, Drew, and Ro in a tent together this summer. Obviously, they were the cooler half of the squad. (Unlike the weather, which was almost certainly going to melt all of the campers - every weather forecast Cassie had seen predicted a heatwave.) "Looks like it's just us," Cassie said, turning to her two remaining friends. "What tent do we want?" After a moment, though, Cassie caught sight of somebody else. Raphael Aveline was hanging around by himself (or maybe he was with someone whom Cassie was too short to see over everyone else's heads) so Cassie waved him over. "HEY, RAPHAEL! COME JOIN OUR TENT!" Four was better than three, and Drew would probably appreciate some male company. Still... "You don't mind, do you?" Cassie checked with them. When none disapproved of Raphael's joining the tent, Cassie continued to wave him over until he joined them. "Guys, Raphael. He doesn't talk much so don't take it personally. Raphael, this is Drew, and this is Ro." Cassie grinned. "Right, which tent do we want?"

Roughly three minutes after arriving at the campsite near the London Quidditch Stadium, Raphael was already regretting all his choices. They had to sign up for tents? Why couldn't they just all sleep in assigned accommodation like the last time they'd come to Hogwarts? He hadn't made any plans to stay with anyone before coming here, and wouldn't know who to ask if he had, anyway. Cassie had plenty friends, Ye-jun was, to his knowledge, not attending, and neither were any other of the handful of people he had formed tenuous connections with. Also, was there a way to get coffee somewhere around here? It was way too early to be social. (Not that he ever thought it was a good time to be social.)
So now he was loitering in front of the tent sign-ups by himself, wondering if it would be allowed to just take a whole tent for himself. It wasn't like he'd be spending much time inside, anyway, if he could help it. The thought was tempting, honestly, although his sister would probably yell at him for it if she heard. That mental image made him flash a quick grin.
A familiar voice in an unfamiliar language called his name, and Raphael's head snapped up, frowning before weaving his way over to where Cassie was waving to him. So she did have free space in her tent, and actually wanted him around, kind of, although quite possibly she was just out of better options. The realisation was... oddly pleasant, like a sip of a warm drink in his stomach.
"Hi," he began, then shot a sharp glance at Cassie at her introduction. "Maybe I'd talk more if you had more interesting things to say," he replied, words slower than usual in the unfamiliar language and heavily accented. It had the edge of a joke to it, but his voice was deadpan, and no smile came with it. Was he teasing or serious? It wasn't quite clear, unless you knew him well.
He gave a nod to Ro and Drew - those weren't Beauxbatons students, were they? Maybe he should have paid more attention to his peers - then shrugged at Cassie's question. "Does it matter? It's just a tent, right?" Still, he squinted at the list of options, picking one at random. "Green Sea sounds nice, I guess."
"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."
