The One Where Piérre Pierced His Ear

Mathilda Wendigo & Romeo MarchonnéEarring, lighter, isopropyl alcohol. Piercing needle, piece 'o cork, and a mildly nervous kid.
Piérre stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom, his fingers tapping on the edge of the polished granite sink as he took a deep breath. He looked his reflection up and down; the green eyes, the uncombed hair, the green and white vertically striped pajamas, the chestnut hair that he had Crinus Muto'd the day he had returned from school to give the natural highlights of his hair an iridescent sheen.
Naturally, Mathilda had been more than a little aghast and disappointed in the boy's strange taste of fashion; "Piérre Marchonné, I do not know how in Merlin's name I have been able to keep you this tame for so long." She had shook her white head, every crease of age on her face seeming to deepen with severity as the almost entire century of her life made themselves known in speaking to what was essentially a child compared to aged wisdom. "But even in that small victory... I feel like I'm slowly losing control with both you and your brother every day." A sigh, one that sounded as if it rattled the world more than it rattled from her.
Piérre had only quietly pet Figaro as he went through the things that planned on keeping in his trunk for the summer. He had taken out his sewing kit and books, but besides his wand, everything would stay put for the summer. Maddie had a very firm policy on the boys getting to use magic over the summer. At the end of his first year, she had even gone so far as to lock their trunks with all their supplies away for the summer (including their wands) so that they couldn't even think about getting to their magical means (except by textbook theory). Piérre didn't need to be reminded of anything of that caliber, and he especially didn't want to be reminded of that fact that his close negative relationship was not going to be home for the summer.
Though, in an attempt to soothe his caretaker's mind, he had responded as amicably as he could, with as much love as he truly had for her. “Don't worry, Mom.” A cherub smile. “We would never get wild enough to forget to take you along.” He gently hugged her, feeling the tight and wiry muscle beneath her winkled and ageworn skin testimony to honorable service and deserved retirement, looking up at the tiny diagonal scar on her right cheekbone that was no doubt the result of a glancing magical blow unable to be healed entirely. She was a warrior to his foolishness, someone who had an honored place in society compared to the boy's current wandering and vagabonding.
Would that ever change? Maybe.
Maybe not.
Piérre finished washing his hands quietly and quickly used a cotton ball to sterilize his right earlobe with the medicinal alcohol. By the assistance of a flashlight, Piérre marked the spot for piercing with a small dot of a quill nib's worth of ink. The boy took a deep breath as his fingers danced towards the lighter and the piercing needle, something that he had acquired by means of slight of hand and a clever slipping of the needle into his pocket-sized sewing kit. He had browsed around the store just long enough to purchase the earring he was going to do his piercing with, and with a distraction that briefly turned attention away from him, had palmed the needle and then made his way out of the store as if nothing had happened to begin with.
ReducioNow the boy flicked the lighter and sparked it to life, bringing the needle into the flame to sterilize it. After turning it in the fire for a few seconds, his green eyes glittering with the orange light, Piérre withdrew it from the flame to let it cool before its big debut. He had a complicated history with fire and wanted as little to do with it as possible. Fire gave and fire has taken so much away. Everything that he had been close to had burned away under his touch and his compassion in their own ways and in their swift and sudden fashions; Victor Moore, Vladimir Athentos, Marion Davenport, the Bianchis. It was for Romeo's own safety that he stayed away for the time being.'s Grace (75-100): 24 (Failure)

Piérre pressed the cork on the opposite side of his ear and then gently touched the piercing needle on top of the ink dot that marked the spot to pierce. The needle was still a bit warm, but it was very sharp and picking his skin even without additional pressure added to it. The boy bit his lip as he fidgeted slightly in hesitation before dedicating himself to the act of piercing. He closed his eyes and then quickly stabbed the needle through his ear as quickly as possible.
With a small, audible 'pop', Piérre felt the needle puncture through his ear and glance off the cork that he had placed on the other side to protect his neck from being pierced as well. He felt his cheeks suddenly flush as his heart beat a bit faster with panic at the pain.
With a sharp inhale, the boy felt a lump in his throat form as the combination of alcohol and hot needle burned the inside of his ear ever so slightly. In another instant, that lump bubbled forth from his lips as a muted scream... And the sound of it echoing in the bathroom caused Piérre's lips to twitch in the corners as a small laugh came to him in the moment. It was a small release, a small reprieve that somehow helped the boy to quell a small square area of the thunderstorm in his chest and mind.
The redness in his cheeks were causing his eyes to water. He wanted to finish this up before he couldn't see clearly anymore.
With a grimace, the boy shakily put the cork down and picked up the small yet thick, golden silhouette earring intended for any first piercings. With a quivering hand, he missed once or twice before he managed to slip the securing part of the earring into the hollow of the needle.
Finally, the boy pulled the needle all the way through his ear, trying to do his best not to whimper or register the fact that it was slightly bloodied from the act of piercing. The earring was now properly in his ear, and with a flutter of pride, the boy clipped the earring close on his right ear, flipping it back and forth to get a head start on twisting it to avert its growing over for the first few months.
He admired the little golden hoop in his ear with a small smile. What on earth was Maddie going to think?
Now he could go back to bed...
And keep worrying over how well Romeo was coping with everything...
And if that damn pazzo crazy missed Piérre anywhere near as much as the small gap in Piérre's heart missed him.Thread Complete
