The Experience
She was excited. There was no other way to put it. Her parents had just left her on the train. She still had half an hour before the train was supposed to leave and she couldn't be more excited. Her father had helped her by casting a featherweight charm on her trunk so she could heave it up into the train by herself. Her mother had kissed her cheek and hugged her and proclaimed how lonely she was going to be now. One last admonition to 'be good' (whatever that actually meant). And then she'd been left alone to 'make friends'. How they expected her to make friends when she'd - to their official knowledge - barely ever left the house she didnt't know but thank merlin she had managed to sneak out a few times.
Determined to find an empty compartment - or if need be a compartment with younger students in it - she set off down the hallway, glancing into the open compartments to find one she could settle down in for the train ride. Halfway down the train she finally found an empty compartment. She wasn't actually tall enough to get her trunk up into the racks, so she just pushed up against the edge and sat down next to the window, legs awkwardly shuffled to the side because of the trunk0.
For a moment she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do. What was the protocol on these train rides? Was she supposed to wait here until someone joined her? Was she supposed to close the door? She had no idea.
After a few moments of waffling her nature won out and she shrugged her shoulders. Things would work out, they usually did. Setting her over-the-shoulder bag down next to her, she fished out her new 'Hogwarts: A History' and curled up with her legs up on her trunk to start reading. her blazer was a little uncomfortable, her pants were going to be rumpled, and her robe had been haphazardly thrown on the other bench, but she was already lost in the by now familiar words. Absentmindedly she reached into her bag and got out the weird wiggly 'fidget toy' her muggle friend had given her when she saw them at the beginning of summer and started turning it around and around as she read. And waited. And her arrival at Hogwarts slowly crept ever closer.
