Sometime in June 2022
Aurora Ranvier, the new ravenclaw prefect. Who would have thought someone like her could have the title and the prefect badge attached on her robe. But that wasn’t the right question to ask. Who in their right mind hired her as one? Perhaps, after all the chaos she was in and possibly caused, there was a potential buried within to lead a group. Maybe it wasn’t much for some people but it was a huge, monumental, astounding accomplishment, to prove to herself that she was much more than she and other people thought she were. They never did see her as someone worth a glance. Maybe it was a good thing, something she didn’t realise yet.

It was after curfew, soles moving upon the solid ground, making sounds that echoed throughout the hallway. With a lit up wand in her hand, nothing should go wrong, at least that was what she hoped for. Patrolling alone in the dark, this wasn’t something she signed up for. But then again, her prefect application said something about protecting the students from the evil spirit, she should’ve known what she put herself in. She wondered what could actually happen if in one of her patrols she found that evil thing that would haunt her for a lifetime. Unlike normal deviants, she knew for a fact that a detention wouldn’t help the case. Spider monsters and cursed dolls would never apologise for their actions because a prefect gives them a detention, things don’t work like that. She didn’t even know if their existence was still relevant. Sometimes regrets flooded her thoughts, why would she put herself in danger just to protect those who probably would not care for her. Most people she met were either obnoxious or in desperate need of humble pies, except those that she could count with one hand. It was a slippery slope, but it was also the road she took.

People changed, for worse or for the better. The same person that used to stutter a lot when talking, the one who rarely hit when casting spells, cannot control her emotion, everyday was either scream or fight. She was now a broom racing captain and a prefect on top of that. Nothing is impossible. That includes kicking her nightmares on their arses. But patrol first, kicking arses later.

It hadn't taken long for Samantha to get used to her new duties as prefect or had it been hard for her because with the responsibilities came great power. She absolutely loved that the other students were now forced to listen to her and do as she said, which was why the shiny prefect badge had become part of her daily outfit and she could rarely be spotted without it. The little thing had become glued to her like phones were glued to muggles.

When Samantha had become prefect, which according to her was a great choice, another other second year had become one too much to her surprise. It seemed just a month ago that Aurora decided it was a good idea to punch a shadow spider, which could curse people, in its face and lie to it about knowing karate and now she was a prefect as well. Still, when she spotted the other girl while patrolling, which could be quite boring, she was extremely glad to see the spider-slapping girl.

Before noticing the other girl, she had been walking around quietly with her wand as little light to guide her through the corridors. According to the brunette, who took her prefect duties very seriously, absolute quiet was needed for patrolling so whoever might be breaking the rules didn't hear her coming and had time to hide. Hiding a jawn behind her hand, she spotted the wine-haired girl doing her patrol and a brilliant idea popped into Samantha's mind.

Slowly and as quietly as she could, the duellist made her way over to Aurora, whose back was turned to her. Once she reached the other girl, she would place both of her hands on the other's shoulders and whisper in the other's left ear: "boo!"

It was getting late, eyes started to get heavy. She was never a night owl and more of an early bird, if she had to do a 5 am patrol that would be awesome. Her patrolling schedule really messed up with her sleeping schedule, but at the same time Aurora didn’t want to disappoint others. Most of the time, she never once caught anyone sneaking around, be that a student or an unknown entity. The thought of skipping one or two patrols often came into her mind but she felt guilty for sleeping through the night. If there were to be chaos at the time she followed her laziness, she’d violate the trust that has been given to her. Having people’s trust is a privilege by itself. But, dear lord, she was so tired.

A perfect timing, at the time where Aurora could doze off as she walked through the dim corridor, a hand of the unknown touched her shoulder and whispered the most eerie thing one could ever hear. The new prefect jumped and turned around, of course, letting out a loud scream “AHHHHH!!” And just like that, her wand was thrown in the direction of the threat and the light went off. As someone with a functioning brain could see, it wasn’t a correct way to use a wand, a magical wand. But as the glow from the lumos spell abruptly blended in with the darkness, she noticed a familiar face. It’d make sense if it was a student messing with her and not a monster judging from the voice, but Aurora wasn’t completely sure about her silly eyesight. “S-samantha? Is that you?”

If it were really the person she thought it was, how would she be sure that it was the real Samantha and not an impostor. At times like this, knowing where she stood, she had to be careful. Magic is weird, and some people tend to use it for anything other than good such as impersonating someone and gaining their trust for whatever reason. She had to think about the worst case scenario. Samantha was not samantha. “S-scream out what we were doing in the dorm before the first year christmas break!”
