Hot Summer Night at the Kinsey Household
The sun was setting but the heat was not leaving with it. Ellie and Marcus were sitting in the living room, as they normally would on a Thursday evening. The living room was fairly large with a reading corner especially designed for Ellie and a gaming corner designed for Marcus. Even though they had different interests, they always enjoyed being near each other. On Ellie’s side, there was a large, cushioned hair in purple velvet. Ellie’s favorite color. It was mostly comfortable, except on these hot summer days. Ellie found herself sitting on the teal, shaggy rug right in front of the chair leaning on it for support, while working on the day’s crossword.

Ellie found it hard concentrating on the clue. She’s really only had one thing on her mind all summer: Hogwarts. This was going to be a big change for the both of them. She wanted to be as prepared as possible for what was to come. Marcus on the other hand focused on whatever story he was currently playing through in his game. She could sense that he didn't share in the same worries that she had.
Their parents were in the kitchen sorting out a late snack to have during a movie with the kids.
There was a stillness in the room and Ellie couldn't help but break the silence.
What if we aren’t sorted in the same house?
Without really skipping a beat, Marcus answered “And what if we are?...You are going to do great, and no matter what house I am in, I will always be there for you”
Ellie gasped and her eyes began to water as she looked up at her brother. She wasn’t even sure why she was surprised. He always knew just what to say to reassure her.
Ellie could hear her parents returning from the other room and did one swoop of her tears and smiled.
