There is no Peace
June 4th, Saturday Early Morning
Back again in the abandoned toilets, Hunter gave a slight smirk as he looked at the putrid scenery above. He wondered why such a location still existed in Hogwarts but wasn't going to ask too many questions regarding it. There was almost likely some sort of reason the abandoned toilets were still alive, despite how wretched they appeared. To ease himself from the scenery, Hunter began to give a slight hum of a song his grandmother taught him back home. His humming voice echoed against the walls and ceilings. It was odd, perhaps creepy, and certainly foreboding.
Hunter felt much more different near the end of his first year at Hogwarts than he did at the start. He felt a bit more confident and figured out how to overcome his own social anxiety in certain scenarios. He was also capable of learning the mindset and tactics of other students and being able to keep a safe distance from everyone. This intern backfired in preventing him from forming many close relationships, but due to the lack and experience of the feeling, he didn't quite understand why friendship was so important. Even in his own house, Hunter didn't feel that close with anybody (except maybe two people in particular) and today he was about to prove that. Another Ravenclaw had requested a potion from Hunter, and he decided to test a fake brew and see if he really felt close to his own housemates. Of course, this was going to end up badly since Hunter was most likely going to encounter this student very often since they were in the same house. A part of him was worried, but he overall felt an urge to understand more about his own feelings and the potions he crafts.
As time went on, Hunter's hums turned into a whistle. He always arrived at locations he was expected rather early. One reason was that he typically had nothing better to do besides catching up on some sleep; however, a bigger reason was that Hunter had a grand feeling of paranoia when it came to anyone he wasn't close with. He'd always arrive, or at least try to arrive, early to prevent any mishaps or potential ambushes. Eventually, the person he was waiting for finally showed up, and Hunter stood at the center of the abandoned toilets by the mirrors: "Mr.McGarry, correct?" Hunter always being polite even when he is plotting something sinister. "Exam weeks have already started, so I hope I'm not too late. Here's that draught of peace you requested," Hunter said in a quiet and meek tone. His confidence boost allowed him to stop stuttering so much when speaking with students, but he still spoke rather quietly with almost everyone. It was a bad habit that made him seem weak, especially since he was always reading, had a slim body, and was rarely seen in public doing physical activities.
After stating the words he said, Hunter reached into his satchel and took out a glass vial containing a rather black and murky liquid(A mixture of water, belladonna, and doxy eggs). It seemed rather intoxicating based on looks, but Hunter tried his best to reassure Bubba: "Birds of a feather stick together, right? We Ravenclaw's gotta stick out for each other, so I don't mind helping calm your nerves down at all. I suggest you try drinking it now though, to make sure it works. I can provide you with another dosage in my satchel for when your next exams occur. Let's prove to the other houses that Ravenclaw excels best in the end." Words of reassurance and lies that were currently off-putting but showed how little of a connection Hunter felt for even those of his own house. Hunter wanted results, and there were very few people who he wasn't willing to make into an enemy and put at risk to find out.

Bubba was exceedingly annoyed when he woke up. He barely remembered a couple of months ago asking one of his fellow Ravenclaws (he couldn't even remember the name, it was Hunter Argentina or something) to brew him a Draught of Peace so he could get through the exams without too much trouble. Anxiety was a constant struggle for him and he knew it would not bring the best out of him for exams. He dressed fairly haphazardly, putting on what turned out to be a pair of odd socks and a plain blue t-shirt under his robes. Bubba couldn't tell if it was the crack of dawn or if it just felt like the crack of dawn but he knew he would have time to come back and dress properly for the next exam.
He finished throwing some clothes and splashed some water across his face to try and make himself semi-conscious before dragging a comb through his hair to get ready to go. Why, in the name of all that is holy, did this kid want to meet this early. It's not like Bubba was asking him for something illegal, it was a potion, fairly inert, not even a nefarious potion. He just didn't get it, but he knew his nerves would thank him for it when he sat down for his Transfiguration exam.
He set off through the halls and down towards the ground. It seemed so early that even the ghosts weren't awake yet. Did ghosts even sleep? They had to do something to break up the monotony of being dead but not quite dead enough to actually do something. He made a mental note to ask the Grey Lady next time he saw her. Barely aware of where he was going, it took a while but he finally wound up where the old toilets were. Why on earth were they meeting here? He'd seen cleaner bathrooms at Fenway after a Yankee game. Oh well, he thought, just have to grin and bear it.
He went inside and heard Hunter's greeting, turning to look at him, "No problem, I appreciate you taking the time," he said as a contemplated leaning against the wall but thought better of it. Even the walls seemed filthy. He wanted to extricate himself from the room as quickly as possible, "Hell of a place to meet," he said, trying not to let his displeasure show, "I've seen cleaner outhouse on campgrounds after a holiday weekend."
Bubba took the vial as Hunter offered it and looked at it. He didn't know what the Draught of Peace looked like but it certainly didn't look very peaceful. He wasn't necessarily mollified by Hunter's reassurances but he was (relatively) sure that a Ravenclaw wouldn't try to pull anything.
He took the stopper out and swished the vial around as a sommelier would a glass of him, smelling it, "Oof, here's hoping it tastes better than it smells." He took a tentative sip and immediately knew that something was wrong. He felt a little queasy. He knew the Draught of Peace was supposed to be good for the psyche but he couldn't imagine it'd be this bad for the physical system. "Uhh... yeah listen bud, I'm not questioning your knowledge here but are you sure this is right?" He paused and let out a very uncomfortable belch before continuing, "Because if I drink this before an exam I'm going to need you to hook me up with a vial of Pepto Bismol too."

Hunter gave a curious look, wondering if the slight sip Bubba took was enough to really cause any damage or real poison to his body. The vial Hunter gave him was a fake potion and much closer to a poison. Doxy eggs induce dehydration, stomach pains, and vomiting; belladonna causes similar symptoms and also causes blurry vision and slight hallucination. A minor sip could be enough to cause something, but Hunter didn't assume too much as Bubba let out a belch that echoed throughout the walls. Hunter didn't make a strong concentration as he didn't intend to kill a student, but he was sure the amount he added was at least enough to cause some serious severities. Either way, he still had a backup plan in case things grew too sour for him and Bubba: "Don't worry, I have another potion here just in case anything went wrong." Hunter reached into his satchel and took out a teal-colored potion that certainly resembled a potion learned in one of the first-year courses. It was an antidote to common poisons, but Hunter didn't have to reveal anything just yet. He placed the antidote on the ledge of one of the
"I request we do hurry though, the smell of this location is rather bad as you said. I try to avoid crowded places, and this unfortunately is the closest secluded place I could think of. Same reason for the early time, I prefer to reduce any risk of anyone witnessing me give you a potion. I'm fine with a few people asking, but I really wouldn't want a request from every student in Hogwarts," is what Hunter said to Bubba in a rather quiet tone. Even when alone and in a serious situation, Hunter still gave off a mood of being shy or perhaps weak in the eyes of other students. Slim and always quiet, he never seemed much like a threat to anyone.
His wording behind the early time and location was closer to a stretched-out lie than being a complete truth or a complete lie. Hunter does try to avoid large crowds and the watchful eyes of many students, it was a feeling of paranoia that he always had. He sometimes looked at life like an equation full of variables. If things were to go his way, he needed to reduce as many variables as possible.

Bubba saw the look of curiosity cross Hunter's face after he took a drink. He supposed he was wondering if he'd made it right? All he knew was that he was feeling very much worse for wear after drinking that. He was feeling a little queasy, the belch had relieved some of it, but still, this did not bode well. He saw him take out the teal concoction, well at least he had something in his bag of tricks in case he'd managed to cock up. Still, if he'd messed this one up what's to say he hadn't messed that one up?
"I would say," Bubba said as he touched his hand to his stomach, he was definitely not feeling well and was certainly feeling more anxious now, not less, but that could probably be attributed to feeling sick suddenly, "That the only more secluded spot you could've found is the Chamber of Secrets." Bubba couldn't help it, when he didn't feel well or was uneasy, he got a bit sarcastic. "I can definitely understand not wanting people coming out of the woodwork asking you for potions. The scenery is fine," he paused, he really was feeling unwell, not deathly ill, but unwell. "Look, I'm not questioning your expertise here but I'm not feeling any calmer and I've got a bit of a sour stomach, you sure you nailed this one?"
He wasn't trying to be rude but he wasn't sure if he managed it. On the one hand, this was supposed to be the potions GUY in their year. He was sure he knew what he was doing, but on the other hand, he was already feeling a bit unwell and wasn't feeling at peace physically, mentally, or metaphysically. He decided to lean against one of the grimy walls to give himself time to make a decision. He immediately regretted it and wondered if he'd ever get the grime out of the sleeve of his robe.

"Hmmm..." Hunter said in a rather mild tone. He took out a muggle pen and a journal out of his satchel. Opening a page, he began to write a few things into it while having a curious look, "I certainly followed the recipe as written, and this certainly isn't the first time I've brewed a draught of peace. It's possible the potion doesn't necessarily get rid of anxiety but rather purges it out. A sort of experience of immense anxiety that makes you feel sick all at once, and then for the rest of the day you'll feel perfectly tranquil and normal. I would suggest drinking the entire thing to make sure it lasts all day, but if you'd like to stop then I'll hand you this other potion," to which Hunter gestured towards the other teal-looking potion.
There were still a few things off about the altercation, such as how Hunter was writing in his journal rather than seeming concerned. One could assume he was that confident in his skills, or perhaps he was expecting this sort of outcome, "You mentioned the Chamber of Secrets, right? I've never been there myself, and so far most people have told me it's a rumor. What do you think? Do you think the chambers for dark-blooded wizards actually exist here in Hogwarts?" Hunter didn't even seem slightly concerned with how Bubba was acting, even as the young boy pushed himself up against one of the nasty walls in this putrid sanctum: "I am rather surprised this is how the draught of peace acts. I myself was expecting a more... peaceful transaction? How are you feeling Mr. McGarry, and what exam do you have upcoming next that caused so much anxiety in you?"
After a few more questions, Hunter waited and would proceed to write more and more into his journal for each question that Bubba answered or described.

Hunter looked like the guy who supervised the lab techs while they ran their tests—writing notes down and looking on with great interest. At the same time, Bubba's stomach ache started to get worse, and cramp up severely. Now he was talking about some of the most absurd nonsense he'd ever heard. "Purges the anxiety", is he insane? And now he wanted him to drink the whole thing. The Chamber of Secrets? What's he doing getting ready for his set at the improv. Bubba threw it out there as a throwaway metaphor now he wanted an in-depth discussion. How is he feeling? He was turning green how did he think?
The pain was reaching the point of being unbearable now. Bubba was giving him side-eye so severe that if he tried to increase the angle anymore he'd have to remove them and put them on the sink next to him, "Hey, Alfred Nobel, over here." His voice was laced with sarcasm and accusation and he snapped the fingers on his free hand to mockingly get his attention, "You absolute wanker..." he spat as he slowly dropped to a knee, "I take it back. You did absolutely nail it didn't you?" The nausea was almost overpowering now as he grimaced, determined not to give Hunter the satisfaction of vomiting. "Thought you'd have a little fun at my expense did you? Give me a little concoction of who knows what and see how it'd affect me?"
He gave a hollow laugh as he dropped to both knees, one hand clutching his stomach, the other on the filthy floor trying to keep him upright. "You know you sound like one of those muggle medicine commercials - side effects include upset stomach, diarrhea, loss of balance and vision." He gave a hollow laugh as he tried to maneuver himself over against the wall, "How stupid do you think I am? My stomach feels like it's trying to leave my body for pastures new," speaking of, he was very green now as he heaved a couple of times but didn't throw up. The sound of him retching had to be carrying a fair distance. "Oh, by the way, I feel like crap, now piss off." He spat as he turned and slumped against the wall between two sinks.

Hunter gave a slight sigh, "I knew a bloody Ravenclaw would be too risky." It seemed Bubba had seen through the whole thing by now, and Hunter certainly figured it would have taken a bit more time, and he was hoping a bit more of the fake potion would be consumed. Well, either way, Hunter came for something and he wasn't going to just end it at that, "Well Mr.McGarry, you are as wise as almost every Ravenclaw in our house. Unfortunately, I'd have to say it's a bit too late from the looks of it."
Hunter didn't take any steps or change of stance on the situation. Taking into account that Bubba was most likely going to end up feeling worse as time went on, Hunter wasn't too worried, "Alright Mr.McGarry. I'll be truthful with you. One, I may be the potions guy, but that doesn't mean I am the nice guy even to my own housemates it would seem." Hunter's eyes shifted between his journal and Bubba, taking notes every so often, and checking to make sure he wasn't getting to close to the door. He himself was surprised that he didn't feel too concerned or upset that he was witnessing his own housemate falling to the ground in pain: "Second, what you drank wasn't your draught of peace, it was a poison a good mixture of belladonna and doxy eggs. Both are rather upsetting for the stomach, and you may have some blurred vision or hallucinations. Please inform me of when that occurs so I know if I should increase or decrease the mixture's concentration next time." Even though Hunter wasn't bothered by Bubba's actions, he wasn't enjoying it either. He could feel a piece of him fighting against his actions, but another part was pushing back against that feeling of guilt or perhaps pity: "And thirdly, this other teal potion I have presented is your antidote. Essentially, you're gonna answer some of my questions about the poison and how you currently feel. Afterward, if you comply, I'll hand you the antidote and we'll be on our merry way back to our exams. As for next time you need a potion, I suggest you look for the potion las (girl) who is the nice one in our house. She would prob-" Hunter immediately cut himself off, and lifted into his robe.
The doors of the abandoned toilets opened, and Hunter cursed in his head about who the hell it could have been. It was a Saturday and extremely early in the morning, who else would want to be in the abandoned toilets at this hour. He took out his wand and pointed it at the door, "Well, isn't that quite the coincidence. Care to explain why you are here Ms. Nelson? Please be careful, even though we shared a gregor's unctuous unction the influence of the potion vanished long ago."

--- Date: 04/06/22 || Time: Morning ---
Outfit: School Robes, untied tie
Sophia wasn't much of a morning person, but even she had hobbies that required earlier hours at times. Her biggest hobby since coming to Hogwarts - other than reading - was potion brewing and the study of potion brewing, and for that hobby she often found herself waking quite early on Saturdays to compensate for the - sometimes quite long - brew times on some of the potions.
She didn't necessarily keep a specifically large stock of potions handy at all times, but given some of the dangers involved in studying magic - whether in Defense Against the Dark Arts or even Herbology - she tried to keep a few simple potions on hand at all times. Specifically, she tried to keep a few Antidotes to Common Poisons for mishaps in the classroom, Forgetfulness Potions in case of social slip-ups with her friends, Gregory's Unctuous Unction in case of boredom and - of course - Sleeping Draughts to help with her own insomnia she'd suffered since her parents' deaths.
As such, she tended to consider herself moderately well-prepared, between her potion skills and her decent stock of potions.
Unexpectedly, she was going to be tested on that front this very morning.
As she was descending the Grand Staircase on her way to the Potions classroom to see what she could practice today - at least, until the Pride decoration event later - she'd heard a noise.
It wasn't horribly uncommon to hear students yelling or fussing about with one another at Hogwarts. Cram enough 11-17-year-olds into an old magical castle, and they were sure to butt heads, after all.
This time, though, something about it set her on edge and made the hair on the back of her neck rise.
She didn't know what could possibly make her uncomfortable with the situation, but there was something going on here. Something bad. She should have been smart, maybe went to get a teacher and told them something was up, but what could she say?
I had a bad feeling when I heard some students bickering?
No. That was stupid, even to her own ears, so she'd gone against her instincts and followed the sound of the voices until she reached the old abandoned girls' bathroom on the second floor. She didn't frequent the place, for obvious reasons given the state of it, so she wasn't overly familiar with it, but at the sound of boys' voices inside the door, she felt even more uncomfortable.
She pressed her ear to the door and listened briefly.
Sophia recognized the last voice, but she didn't like it. If it was who she thought it was, well, that didn't bode well. She liked him, she really did. He was smart and talented at potion brewing, and they'd done some wonderful work together. Why would he possibly 'have a little fun' at the other person's expense?"Thought you'd have a little fun at my expense did you? Give me a little concoction of who knows what and see how it'd affect me?"
"Alright Mr.McGarry. I'll be truthful with you. One, I may be the potions guy, but that doesn't mean I am the nice guy even to my own housemates it would seem."
She couldn't with a clear conscience let this continue. She had to do something about it.
She pulled her ear from the door, missing the tail end of their conversation and took a deep breath. After calming her nerves, she pushed the door to the abandoned bathroom open and tried to see what on God's green earth was possibly going on in here.
She saw the boy doubled down in some sort of agony, looking rather ill. It was horrible. She wasn't a doctor - or whatever the wizards called their equivalent - so she didn't know what was wrong with him off the top of her head, but based on the teal vial near Hunter, she assumed it was some kind of poison. It had to be. Hunter was smart. He wouldn't bring an Antidote to Common Poisons unless he knew it would be sufficient.
Unfortunately, Sophia's observations stopped there.
Pointed right at her was a wand. A wand held by Hunter, the boy who'd briefly been her best friend in the whole world. She hesitantly raised her hands in the air in the universal gesture for surrender. She was terrified, and even if she had her wand, she didn't know if there was much she could do to get out of this situation.
"Well, isn't that quite the coincidence. Care to explain why you are here Ms. Nelson? Please be careful, even though we shared a gregor's unctuous unction the influence of the potion vanished long ago."
Sophia gulped nervously. She knew that Gregory's Unctuous Unction would have worn off long ago, but she didn't know exactly when. As strange as it felt, she'd considered Hunter to be a real friend even without the potion after their adventure brewing it together, so the feelings blended together in her head confusingly. What was from the potion, and what was real? Who knew? She just knew that she'd liked - and respected - the boy in front of her.
But she couldn't let him do this.
"Hey, Hunter," she said, trying not to sound as scared as she was. There was a boy suffering in front of her, and she had to get him an antidote one way or another. "Uh, I just happened to hear you guys when I was on my way to the classroom, but - wait, that doesn't even matter!"
She looked at the boy's sickly pallor and the way he was favoring his belly. Some sort of nausea or stomachache, then. Then she saw the black liquid in the other vial.
"His stomach hurts, Hunter. Mistletoe? That other vial's contents are black, so doxy eggs?" she asked as she slowly took a single step toward the boy. She had an Antidote to Common Poisons in her own robes, in case Hunter wasn't going to let him have the one in front of them, but she didn't dare reach for it with a wand pointed at her.
She took another tentative step toward the sick boy.
"W-what's going on here, Hunter?" she asked, hoping his answer would be that she was misunderstanding the situation.

"Belladonna," Hunter as usual was surprised and impressed by Sophia's observational skills towards potions. He didn't know too many students who were just as good with potions as he was, and he certainly enjoyed that fact about her. However, he wasn't extremely happy with the look of worry on her face and her current interjection into Hunter's plans. It gave a slight spark in him as if reminding him of what he was doing. He brushed it off; already too late to reconsider and do "the right thing:"
"Mistletoe is too easy to cure, belladonna is stronger and worse. I need to understand these poisons better to make sure I can cure them the next time. Make sure my antidotes are strong enough for mixtures like these. Mr. McGarry here was helping as a volunteer, and everything is under control." Hunter gestured his head towards the antidote he had beside him, but he didn't lower his wand towards Sophia. His paranoia was very high, and he didn't like the fact that another variable (Sophia) was now present. From all this, he swiftly noticed the few steps Sophia took and could tell she was very worried for Bubba.
Hunter sighed, already exhausted and tired from all the talk. There was a reason he was usually a quiet person, he found talking to be such a waste of energy: "Please don't take any more steps, Ms.Nelson. Mr.McGarry hasn't requested the antidote yet, and I still have a few more questions. Since he hasn't vomited yet I doubt he's in a dire position yet." Hunter didn't grin, nor gave a sour look. He seemed calm and concerned about the situation and wordplay between him, Sophia, and Bubba. His wand hadn't moved at all as he spoke, "I suggest you stay and study as well, it may help you identify what issues students may encounter in the future. Now then, I'm curious since were all Ravenclaws. What do you think your theories would be if a poisoned individual were to be hit with a curse? Would the curse be enhanced or could it potentially afflict and enhance the poison by magically overriding the body?" Hunter's wand drifted away from Sophia, and began to point at Bubba: "Oh, and unfortunately Pepper up Potion doesn't work on magical sickness."

Bubba knew the girl that had just walked in to say hello to but they weren't particularly close. He could only assume that this was the potions lass that Hunter was referring to as she seemed to have a strong grip on the situation fairly immediately. He wasn't sure where this was going but he was quite sure he didn't like it. When she started walking toward him and Hunter pointed his wand at her he raised his hand to stop her. No sense of them both being doubled over in pain.
Then he heard the word volunteer and something changed in his mind. Yes, he was certainly in severe pain, but he was not going to take this nonsense from anyone let alone from someone in his same year and in his house. He used the rest of Hunter's pontification to focus his mind clearly. He saw the wand swing towards him. He was unconcerned. They were the same year and he doubted that Hunter had the time to learn to be both a potions and a dueling prodigy. He would take his chances.
Focusing his mind to block out the pain as much as possible, Bubba grabbed the vial of poison which had dropped to the floor and not broken, and carefully held it between his right index finger and thumb. Using the two sinks, Bubba pulled himself back up and held the vial in his hand, his other hand still clutching his stomach. He was not going to let this jumped-up little turd get the best of him. "Not to worry," he began evenly, staring daggers at Hunter and trying to keep his composure, "the steam will start coming out of my ears quite on its own soon."
He moved the hand that was currently holding his stomach and placed it on a sink, using it as leverage to turn and face Sophia. "Our Hunter is ever so MO-dest," his voice broke towards the end as the pain threatened to break through again but he stood tall. "I heard that Frederick Guthrie over here," he used the hand holding the vial to indicate Hunter, "Was a dab hand at potions." He grimaced slightly, doing all he could to keep the paint at bay. "I get some anxiety around exams and I asked him if he could brew the Draught of Peace." He held out his hand so she could have a closer look at the vial.
"Now, obviously, I am not great at potions, and have no idea what it's supposed to look like." He paused for a moment, green flashed over his face before disappearing again, and he continued, "I just assumed the blackness was the void to which my worries would disappear." He smirked, "Instead I feel like I ate the leftover shepherd's pie that we let sit in the fridge one day too long." He turned green again at the thought, bad time for a spoiled food analogy. "Rest assured that I did not, however, 'volunteer'," he did air quotes around the word volunteer, "To be poisoned."
He turned back to Hunter, a look of the utmost loathing on his face before continuing. "No, I have not asked for the antidote. And you may be great at potions but you're as thick as dragon dung if you think I'm going to trust another vial you hand me." He laughed without humor before having a bright idea. Hunter wanted to do some experimentation, see how the strength was, see if it worked. Why not find out, let's see what pushes him over the edge. Hunter just needed to be careful what he wished for.
"Still," Bubba began, the light switching on in his head and a placid smile crossing his face, "We're here, I've already drank some, and Hunter's doing market research." He took the stopper off of the vial and set it on the sink. "So why don't we crack on for science." He raised the vial towards his lips and took another half swig of the potion, knowing it would be enough to create the desired effect and threw the vial into the sink. It shattered and the putrid solution ran down the drain.
Bubba knew it had worked immediately. The urge was overpowering, he held on as long he could to make the effect dramatic as possible. He had immediately broken out into a cold sweat. The room had started to swim but his eyes were locked on Hunter. Any second now, just hold on a little bit longer. It was time to give in, a malicious smile played across his face as he lurched forward and dispelled a stream of projectile vomit straight at Hunter, collapsing to the floor in the process.
