Emma stared in amazement at the bustling alley in front of her.

"I don't think there's this many people in all of Appleby," Emma said to her dad, thinking of their hometown. A man of few words, Raymond simply smiled at his daughter and began walking toward a shop.

Emma was a soon-to-be first year at Hogwarts. It was only July currently, but Hogwarts was hosting a summer camp prior to the start of the academic year. Emma wanted to have all of her supplies before camp started. She liked to be prepared!

She and her dad entered Flourish and Blotts first, followed by Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions and Potage's Cauldron Shop. After about an hour of shopping, Emma scanned over the supply list. "All that's left is my wand!" she exclaimed, practically skipping to Ollivanders. She had grown up watching her dad perform magic and could not wait to get a wand of her own. Today felt like a dream come true!

Raymond ran to catch up with her. "Be careful, Emma. You'll get lost," he told her.

"Sorry, Papa! I got excited."

Emma opened the door to Ollivanders. She was greeted by an old man who handed her wand after wand. She held each one in her hand for only a moment before the man replaced it. By the sixth or seventh wand, Emma was quite tired.

"You're a tricky one," said the man, "but we'll figure it out." Emma smiled, trying to stay polite despite her growing nervousness.

What if I can't find a wand? Am I doing something wrong? Emma's mind was racing.

The man handed Emma yet another wand. This one felt warm in her hand and gave off sparks when she waved it.

The man nodded. "Aspen wood with a unicorn hair core. Thirty-one-and-a-half centimeters. Bendy."

"What exactly does that mean, sir?" Emma was relieved to have seemingly completed the process, but she had very little clue what any of those words meant.

"Well, it means that your new wand is quite gifted in defensive spells. It's also rather long for a small girl like yourself. It likes witches or wizards with a dramatic style of magic, as well as those who go on adventures or dangerous quests. It is likely to be drawn to an owner who is strong-minded and determined."

Emma blushed. Me? Dramatic, adventurous, and strong-minded? She had never been described in such a way before! Perhaps Emma would come out of her shell at Hogwarts. She couldn't wait to see what was in store!

She down looked at the wand in her hand. There was no denying that it was very pretty. It had an ivory appearance that looked pure and good and suited Emma's character nicely.

She turned to her dad. "I quite like it," she said with a smile.
