All the stress, for what?

A crowd of students surrounded the board of grades. They clamoured over each other, trying to catch a glimpse of the sheet that, as they would say, 'held their fate'. Chiaki, however, simply strolled on past, ignoring the board.
She took a seat on the grass outside the courtyard area, trying to block out the commotion behind her. She really couldn't care less about her grades-they were merely an additional thing to worry about. Some may argue she wasn't conscious about her future, but she simply saw it as living in the moment. In her mind, why would she worry about what could happen in 10 years time? Why shouldn't she have fun right now? There was always time to panic about getting a job when she graduated.
Sighing happily as she absorbed the crisp air of June, she lay back, letting herself become comfortable as she basked in the sun's warmth. Someday, she might think further about her future, but for now, she wanted to enjoy the beauty and peace of the present. Today was going to be a good day, she could feel it.

All the stress, for what?
ARYAAN SHAMSI
The results were out. Whoo, what a great day. Cue the balloons and sunshine and celebrations.
Or not.
Aryaan had never felt strongly about studies -- a hurdle to enjoying a bright day outside, a way to have the Navies keep their heads jammed firmly up their butts, another way for the sadistic adults to keep kids from having a good day.
Learning was important, but what was the point of grades? Forcing words into your head, only to forget them as soon as you left the exam hall? Aryaan would honestly play a good game of broom-tag. Or Quidditch. Or go exploring. At least those things were not boring!
On this perfectly average day with a stupid number of people going and crowding around the grades, Aryaan did the only sane thing he could think of: He ignored the masses, and went straight outside….only to find that he wasn’t the only person who’d had this idea.
See! Great minds think alike!
Approaching this new person, Aryaan all but collapsed onto the ground next to them, a stupid grin on his face.
“Looks like you’re having a good time. Mind if I drop in on it?”

“Looks like you’re having a good time. Mind if I drop in on it?”
Chiaki looked up to see another approaching her, and greeted them with a smile.
"Of course not, take a seat." She patted the ground next to her, inviting them to sit.
"You seem familiar." She pressed a little further, squinting to place the face. "Oh! You're... Shamsi, right? The one who stepped up as Hexwizard champion!"
In truth, Chiaki would've liked to be on the Hexwizard team. It would be a great experience for her, and a chance to meet some more people, or get to know the ones she did know better. But she wasn't going to befriend the champion purely for that reason. Using someone in that way, that was cruel.
"I don't believe we've met previously. I am Chiaki, Hiroi Chiaki, and it is very nice to meet you."
She extended her hand for a handshake. Rather formal, yes, but they were not on a hugging level, and it felt wrong to not offer any sort of welcoming gesture.
Glancing back at the results board, Chiaki had to admit her surprise at the champion's absence there. "I will say that it is a surprise you aren't over by the board with the other navies and golds. I would've expected that from the champion. Not that it's a bad thing you aren't there," she quickly added on, not wanting to offend. "It's nice to have a friend out here whilst everyone loses their minds over their grade. Only, unexpected."
