Embarrassment, an utter embarrassment. Monica had always had a natural talent when it came to physical activities. Back home she was able to out shoot anyone twice her age in basketball. Had pristine hand eye coordination for badminton, could even aim with precision with an arrow. When she learned about flying on brooms, that was enough to flutter her heart, but learning that there were sports in broom flying sealed the deal. She was going to be amazing at this! Right?
Well apparently not.
Seems that taking off while holding balance, tapped into a different sort of skill set, made even levitating a challenge for Monica.
Miffed with the ridicule from her fellow classmates, and the sting to her personal pride, Monica was determined to become a great flyer!
She entered the empty field bursting with optimism. The sky was a clear baby blue, not a cloud over head. The wind was down, made it for little to no resistance with attempting to get into the air. The grounds for the most part were void of people, "Perfect time to take to the sky."
Monica had chosen a corner of the grounds, a little way off in attempts to have as much privacy as possible. Recalling the instructions from Professor Stube, She mounted the broom, placing herself just shy of the end of the brushes. Bending her knees, and preparing herself for take off, she lifted up the end of the broom to the sky and slowly she began to rise.
Monica's stomach began knotting, every muscle that she possessed was clenched, gripping onto the centre of gravity, desperately attempting to not falter. "So far so good."
Allowing herself to rise slightly higher, Monica relaxed herself, "There we go, I knew it was a fluke that I couldn't..." Her body shifted, the centre of gravity had been lost, and before she knew it, her broom was taking off hard to the right. From zero to one hundred in the blink of an eye, Monica had completely lost her composure, and control of her broom... Only way out, was off. She let go, and retreated to the ground treadmilling just underneath her. It welcomed her with a thud, as she was tossed a few feet from her initial impact. The broom quickly shot out of the air, landing not too far from Monica's own position. She sat up, rubbing her elbows from the remnants of the dirt that clung to her robe.
"Well that could have gone better."
Gathering herself back to her feet, she gazed around the space, praying that no one had just witnessed her horrid attempt at basic hovering...

Jack could feel his chest puffing up as he inhaled deeply through his nose. There was nothing like the smell of fresh air on a bright and sunny afternoon. The boy was walking with a swagger that only an exaggerated bravado could permit someone to have. Each step was over-accentuated, allowing the boy to have a lean while he walked. Slung lazily over his shoulder, like a hobo bundle, sat his hard-earned Silver Arrow broomstick. Unfortunately, in the attempt to look cool, the long bristles of the broom occasionally brushed against the Hufflepuff's shaved head, causing the boy to flinch and snap his head to the side like somebody was trying to touch him. Jack hadn't grown accustomed to his new hairstyle, but he knew he would be a trendsetter. The boy could imagine it. Every guy at Hogwarts would be buzzing their head in an attempt to be more like him, but let's be honest, nobody could ever match the force of personality that the third year held.

His self-revelations continued as Jack strutted along and onto the training pitch. Most every time Jack decided to go work on his broom flying, the pitch was derelict. However, devoid of life, the field was not. Instead of an empty clearing, a broomstick rocketing a first-year, from its looks, from the air back to terra firma. Like watching a car crash, Jack's mind was peeled away from his future endeavors as a leader in popular fashion and directly to the kid leaving skid marks across the grass. He just couldn't look away.

Standing there, stunned at the fact he just watched the first-year show how fundamentally incapable they were of broom flying. Only moments passed before the shock wore off, and instead, it was replaced by the cackling of laughter. Bending over, the boy had to wrap his free arm around his belly to prevent himself from falling over. In all honesty, he was probably laughing a little too hard, but eventually, his chuckles would fade. With a deep breath, he finally spoke out, "Was that on purpose, or were you tryin' to eat some of tha dirt?" another wave of chuckles followed his words before he was able to regain his composure. "From tha looks of it, you are tryin' too hard to keep in the air. You gotta find you center first-"

Monica could feel her face shifting in colour, the red filling out her checks, the heat as it rose in her body. She looked over as she heard the laughter rising from another student, crumpled over laughing at her! She quickly got up on her feet, patting off any remaining grass blades and dirt from her robe, removing the evidence that connected her to her unfortunate crash landing.
Hastening over to collect her broom, she tried to ignore the peer, hoping that if she didn't make eye contact, he would just disappear, never to bother her again.
"Was that on purpose, or were you tryin' to eat some of tha dirt?" Oh no! He was engaging with her. Move faster!
Monica scooped up her broom, ready for a hasty escape, "From tha looks of it, you are tryin' too hard to keep in the air. You gotta find your center first-"

"What do you know about it?"

She couldn't stop herself, the words spilled out of her, breaking through the wall of formality, and casting her thoughts out there for the world to experience. Who even was this, the audacity to laugh, AND to suggest they knew anything about what Monica was doing... Unless.... how long had he been watching her?

She took a breath, trying to calm her emotions, "No it wasn't my intention to... land in such a way..." Swallowing her pride, coming to grips that she was in need of assistance, and at the present moment, beggars can't be choosers. At least this was an older student, one that should know a thing or two more than Monica, in any case.
"You wouldn't happen to have any, advice, for keeping in the air?"Her chest tensed.
