No One to Stop Us
Place: Empty Classroom
Date: June 14, 2022
Time: After classes in the afternoon
As the end of the school year drew near, so did tests and final exams. Jack was determined to do his absolute best. Though he made a show of pretending to be lazy and unproductive in class, outside of class was a whole different story. Every week he would spend the weekend prior preparing for each class's next lesson ahead of time so he could slack off during actual class hours and yet still maintain a perfect grade without anyone else knowing. It was the easiest way to avoid academic rivals, he found, as well as kids who used to bully him into doing their work for them just because they thought he was 'smart'.
The tricky part was finding private times and places to practice and study without anyone else around to see him. The Room of Requirement was certainly useful, but there were only so many times one could go there without attracting too much attention to oneself. So, on some days - such as this one - he had to risk using an empty classroom instead.
Books were spread out all across several desks and on the floor, most of them open to particular pages and marked with stickies all over. His tin cauldron bubbled away in one corner as he waited for a potion to heat up, ingredients clumped together in neat little piles around it. At the far end of the room, Jack waved his wand without a word, practicing gestures out of one of his spell books before getting ready to speak the incantation as well. He was particularly confident in the subject of Charms as he had even mastered the spells they were to learn in the coming year.
Since he had been so eager to get a head start on his studies that day, however, Jack had forgotten one very important thing: to lock the door. He'd never needed to lock the door when using the Room of Requirement, after all. It didn't occur to him that the scent of his brewing potion might escape the classroom and attract the attention of someone else. He'd also forgotten that unlike the Room of Requirement, the empty classroom wasn't soundproof and his shouts of spell incantations could carry out into the hall for anyone passing by the room to hear.

"Periculum!" Jack cried, red sparks shooting from the top of his mayhaw wood wand as he pointed it directly up in the air. "Verdimillious!" he called next, causing green sparks to fountain forth instead. With a thoughtful stance, the young man jotted something down in a nearby notebook a moment later, muttering something to himself about the emphasis on syllables with pronunciation.
He turned then to check the contents of his cauldron, deciding it was probably about time to turn down the heat on it, when a tall figure framed by the doorway caught his attention. Dark eyes immediately met his own and Jack sneered. Wand still in hand, he folded his arms over his chest as he observed the underclassman's own wand held between slender, elegant fingers. Slowly, like a cat stalking its prey, he began to walk toward Draven.
"Well well! If it isn't Mr. Mirador!" he spoke jovially, hazel eyes glittering. "I didn't realize I had an audience. How long have you been watching me?" Though he continued to smile, his last question had an edge to its undertone that suggested he was less than pleased to have caught someone spying on him.
"I knew there was a spark between us, Mirador, but I never would have guessed you would go so far as to stalk me during your idle hours." He stopped when they were inches apart, beaming wryly up at Draven with no evidence that he minded the height disparity between them.
