Esme had always been different from her siblings, in many, many ways. They were outgoing, she wasn't, they were popular, she wasn't, they loved sports, she didn't—the list goes on and on. Most of these things had never truly mattered. Esme was alright with being alone, she was alright with not having many friends at school. It had always been this way... and by now she was used to it. To her, it was alright being more alone at school, because she knew she had people to count on at home. People like her brother, parents, and of course her aunt Steph. But... things were slightly different now that she was at Hogwarts.

Instead of living at home, she lived in a dorm with a bunch of other Gryffindor girls that she hardly spoke to. Instead of having someone waiting to give her a hug after a long day of school, only her bed and trunk full of belongings greeted her. There was the occasional nice meeting with another student, but nothing so far had caused any lasting friendships, or anything Esme wanted to follow up on, sad as that may seem. And sure, owling her family was fine, and sure, that was a way for her to talk about what was going on, but it was a long and tiring one. She just didn't always have the energy to write a letter detailing all the events in her day, and over the past few weeks she'd stopped corresponding with anyone in her family as often.

Overall, Esme was tired. Of school. Of being alone. And it was only November.

After sending a short letter to her aunt to reassure her that she was okay, she was still alive, she was doing her homework and sure, she had made some friends (it was just a small white lie, and she was sure to make one at some point, right?), Esme had wandered out to the courtyard. Along with the Great Lake, it had quickly become one of her favorite spots to hang out, and especially now that it was getting slightly colder out, she'd starting coming here more often instead, for it was closer to the castle in the case she got too cold or wanted to head back inside.

Although she took out the sketchbook she'd brought with her, Esme didn't actually draw anything. Letting her mind (and eyes) wander, her gaze caught on a girl not too far away. She'd seen her a few other times she'd come... Maybe that little white lie she wrote in her letter to her aunt could actually be truth by the time it was read?

Slipping off of the stone bench she'd been perched upon, the young gryffindor made her way over and stopped awkwardly in front of the other girl. Why did I do this, again? "Um, hi...?" That... sounded too much like a question. Hurrying on, Esme added, "I'm Esmeray. Esme. Rosslyn." This... this was going great.
