Safety Scissors solo Closed

Reena stormed into her room and shut her door. She flumped on her bed and sat there, fuming. She just had an argument with her father, who was yelling at her for hanging out with her friends past dark. They were doing something and the sun set before she knew it, and she had biked home as fast as she could. Her mother would understand. But nooo, her father has to get all up in her business and accuse them of doing bad things just because the sun was down. Now he wanted to give her a stricter curfew. It was stupid. He would tell her about hanging out with his friends whenever he wanted, with no electronics when he was a kid. If it was so awesome how come she didn't get to? It was stupid on a whole other level. Besides, so what if she didn't follow every single rule? That was stupid too! In fact, all of this was stupid. She kicked off her converse and chucked them into the wall. The yellow shoes left a dirt mark on her wall. She rolled off her bed and looked in her mirror, angry. Her hair was shorter. Also, it was... red. The red wasn't so much her thing, but the short...

She didn't look like a girly girl. She didn't look like a boy.

She looked like her. She tilted her head and inspected it. Her father would be so mad if she even considered it... which is why she wanted to even more. She threw her door open and started opening drawers and rummaging. "What are you doing??" Her father walked in, clearly still annoyed. She hid her face so she could roll her eyes. "Looking for the scissors" She said, in the same tone. He didn't need to know everything about her every second of the day. "... and why?" She threw her head back with a frustrated sigh. "Because." She answered, and then continued looking. "I got them, nevermind." She grabbed them and walked swiftly to the bathroom and shut the door behind her, leaving her father confused. She looked in the mirror and made her hair grow to it's normal length so she could cut it.

She began to cut.

It wasn't awful, like all the girls who panic and cut their hair and destroy it. She seemed to know what she was doing. Her curly locks fell to the floor, and she felt satisfied at every snip. It felt better. Every cut was a string of stress gone. She was finished. She smiled at her reflection and opened the door. She walked out and placed the scissors back on the counter and turned to look her dad straight in the eye. His mouth was wide open. "What?" She asked. "Why are you staring?" She asked. Her father frowned. "Is this- no- this is one of your- you shape shifting tricks, right?" She raised her eyebrows. "No, I actually cut it." She turned out of the kitchen and began to walk away. "And it's not shape shifting." She walked back to her room with a smile on her face. Where did this attitude come from? What happened to her rule following, always happy self? Where did this 'let me be me' come from?
She didn't know. But it was about damn time.
