This was insanity! So many people encircling you, everyone pushing through, fighting to get to their own destination. It could be enough to make some go crazy, especially for a first time, solo traveller. Not only that, but the morning itself, leading up do departure was no picnic either. First Monica's suitcase broke, the zipper popping clean off as she was bringing it down the stairs. Her personal belonging and clothing tumbling to the ground, creating an avalanche of fabric, photographs and books. Her father, be the hero he is, leaped off to locate a replacement case, while her sister and mother helped clean up the mess, and re-fold her laundry. "Got one!" Her father shouted from the depths of the basement, and bringing up one of their newer suit case, it still had that in store smell to it. After finally getting her belongs re-packed up, she headed to get some breakfast from the kitchen, only to discover her older brother, Michael ate the last bit of her favourite cereal. So she was stuck with plain toast and butter. Now on top of all that, traffic caused her to be late to the station.
Sweat started accumulating on the back of her neck, her arms were growing weak from dragging her case up and down stairs, navigating the unforgiving crowd, who didn't seem to care if they happened to linger in her pathway. If this was to be her first day at a new beginning, it was turning out to be a rather stressful and disappointing one at that.
When they finally made it to the "entrance" of platform 93/4, Monica turned to gaze upon her family, one last time. Her mothers eyes began to pool, and she grabbed Monica in a tight embrace, kissing her on the forehead. Her laid a hand on her shoulder, coming down to eye level, "Study hard! Make us proud." Monica smiled and nodded, noticing a small tear forming in his right eye, but she new he wouldn't let himself cry.
Her older sister left her with a pat on the back, and a lingering hug. This one was a hard good bye. "Don't forget to write!" Her brothers were off doing who knows what, but Monica didn't really care to say goodbye, if anything the best part of this whole experience was being able to live away from those two.
Monica left her family behind and entered the Platform.
Getting on the express, she found a nice compartment that was void of anyone, located the a seat next to the window, and claimed it for herself. She struggled a bit putting her suitcase under the seat, but with a little bit of effort, she managed stuffing it in its place.
Glancing out the window, she could see different families saying good bye to their kids. Smiling a little to herself, feeling a small tear forming in her eye. It was hard to say good bye. But she could never let her family see her cry, she had to be strong for them. But sitting her, away from on lookers, Monica felt the emotions she had been pushing down. Missing her family, leaving her friends, saying goodbye to the life she had known thus far.
She shook herself out of her spiral. "No you can't loose yourself, not today." She opted to take out her journal, and began to draw.
Her pencil contacting with the paper, gliding up and down, left and right. She didn't really know what she was drawing, she was more just letting her hands follow it's own impulse. After some time, she could see the form of a single rose etched in the centre of her page.
Noticing a miss-placed line, she flipped her pencil, corrected the error, and continued drawing. Just then she felt a jerk, and the sound of the engine roared. "Here we go, no turning back now."
