Ever since the Festival, Flash had begun to reconnect with his friends again. At the beginning of the year, Flash had struggled to handle what was a truly impossible situation. With his distrust of the adults, and his unwillingness to share the burden of his pain on his loved ones, he had deteriorated in self-inflicted isolation. Culminating in a punch to the face by Burnett, Flash was forced to realize how betrayed he and Willow had felt by being cut out of his life. It was not something Flash easily understood, but the threat of losing them triggered a change in his behavior.Dated: May 29th, 2022

He opened up to specific people in private, and endeavored to maintain healthy habits. Eun-ji's gift of a heather flower had been the anchor which pulled him back from the brink of despair, and it reminded him how much he missed walking the grounds. Spring had come and he had not yet traveled the familiar landscape, nor smelled the fragrant and unique scent of the area. During his first year, he made a perfume unique to the wildflowers growing around Hogwarts. This year, he still had what was left of the perfume he made at his brother's cabin in the forest surrounding the Holmwood estate.
Flash had always been attracted to the way flowers were an identity of a place, how their vastly diverse petals, colors, and aromas characterized nature. Even a person was an amalgamation of expressions, smells, and body language. It was something he surrounded himself with as often as possible, as there had always been something about nature that felt more permanent than his problems. Many of the trees living speckled across the rolling green hills of Scotland had endured centuries of fair and foul, alive and yet immune to the curse of consciousness. In short, being in nature made him feel peaceful, and he missed his excursions. Along with becoming more active in social engagements and communication, he would spend the afternoons in which he had free time engaging in sluggish perambulation.
It was not uncommon to see other students out and about on the grounds, doing one thing of another. On the weekend doubly so, which would have Flash take paths he knew would head towards more overgrown and less inhabited areas around the castle perimeter. During his first year he had charted what must have been every inch of the traversable space of Hogwarts, insistent to understand his surroundings, and that obsessive behavior would end up paying off in this unintended way. He had always been told he seemed older than he was, but at this moment he sincerely felt like an old man avoiding the loud children to wearily stretch his bones. Even if being outside was entirely pleasant, he was still in pain. His body ached, he was tired.
Still, with the open sky all around him, he could feel the absence of conflict in his mind. Replacing the incessant, troubling thoughts was calm appreciation for something greater than he was. He was just an animal, a tiny fraction of the myriad numbers across the planet, dwarfed by the number of plant life. He was free to be simple, to enjoy the beauty of it all. Having walked far enough away from the castle that he expected to see no one, Flash would instead come upon a girl amidst the wildflowers he had been seeking.
Naturally intrigued, Flash would watch momentarily to observe the situation, before quickly realizing she was caring for them. She must have been close to his age, and she looks terribly familiar, yet he was struggling to remember how. It was certainly odd behavior, there was no chance that the herbology professor had asked her to do so, they were mundane flowers that grew everywhere in the United Kingdom. He would be enticed to investigate further. After all, the only thing he liked as much as nature were mysteries. Flash would intentionally approach her from her direct line of eyesight, not wanting to startle or surprise the enthusiastic botanist.
"Hello." Flash would announce, a soft and friendly smile as though he had been expected. "Is this a hobby of yours?"
Flash would tuck his arms behind his back, a casual outfit and demeanor clashing with the dark black eyepatch on his face. He would suffer many changes in his life, but the interest in others would never falter. Anyone who stood out, who behaved unusually or betrayed expectation, would attract his attention like a bloodhound. In a way, one could see it as a mouse having unwittingly walked into the den of a snake, but Flash was not dangerous. Not to those who didn't deserve it.

Springtime was, undoubtedly, Aly's most beloved and absolute favourite time of every year. There was just something so special about the way the flowers bloomed in May, releasing their rich-bodied fragrances into the warm spring air, populating the Hogwarts grounds with little pockets of lovely brilliance. In the late autumn as winter approached, they would fade into an echo of the beauty they had once represented - but right now, they were here, and Aly was going to appreciate them as much as possible, come hippogriffs or high water.
Of course, they would last longer if cared for, and Hogwarts' resident flower girl took on that responsibility with ease and pride. Aly almost always spent her weekends in late May and early June, when the flowers bloomed and exams loomed, tending to wild patches of the grounds' flora with an open textbook beside her. Hogwarts had a groundskeeper, of course, but there was just something about gardening and reading that reminded Aly of her childhood afternoons out in the backyard garden of the Salinger family home with her house-elf Becca, tending to flowers to which she'd always been drawn. Plus, she had her upcoming third-year exams to study for, and it was much easier to focus on the dull drudgery of History of Magic if she had her hands covered in dirt.
Of course, the fourteen-year-old Ravenclaw was not necessarily the most observant of her peers. When focused on a task, it took quite a bit of time, effort, or noise to draw her attention away from it; thus, she didn't notice the boy approaching her until he was right in front of her and, quite boldly, greeting her with a hello and a question, declared almost as if to announce his presence.
Nevertheless, Aly startled. Glancing up from the blossoms clutched gently in her dirt-smeared fingers, green eyes wide, she took in the figure standing above her, smiling in an almost cheerful manner. In his grey shirt and navy cardigan, he could have easily passed for a Ravenclaw in the middle of a crowd, though Aly recognised him as a Slytherin in her year. Flash was his name, she was quite sure - or at the very least, it was a nickname by which everyone called him, much like Aly's name herself. The two third-years had both been on the planning committee for the Blossom Ball the previous month, that which had quickly turned into the Midspring Festival, but they had not ever really interacted; Aly had taken on responsibilities at the crafting corner, while Flash had gone about with other tasks elsewhere. But she at least knew his name, even if she did not know him well.
"Ah! You startled me," she gasped out, trying to not seem too perturbed by his sudden, silent, and stealthy advancement towards her. "Sorry about that, I must not have heard you come up on me. Anyone ever tell you you've some soft footsteps?"
Well. That was an awkward thing to say. Aly flushed lightly from embarrassment, as she was prone to do when her mouth spoke before her brain could think; in retaliation, she tended to overthink, but she forced herself to focus on the boy in front of her instead of the billions of other things that she could have just spoken instead, and a smile dusted her lips. How curious it was to see someone interested in her gardening - normally people walked right by without a second glance at the girl on the ground. Though that could have possibly been because this area of the grounds tended to be more abandoned, covered in shrubbery and hidden such as it was. "Herbology just isn't enough for me sometimes - must get my gardening fix elsewhere," she admitted with a light chuckle, cocking her head to one side. A lock of her curly brown hair fell into her face as she tilted her head, and she wiped it away with one hand, not realising that by doing so, she had unwittingly smeared dirt across her freckled cheek. "You're Flash, right?"
Hopefully he also recognised her and didn't think her to be some creep. Truly, Aly was just proud of herself that she had familiarity with his face and remembrance of his name - she wasn't often the best with that kind of thing. The Ravenclaw could sooner spout off a hundred names of flowers and their meanings than she could a hundred of her Hogwarts schoolmates. Pride in today's achievement, therefore, was nothing short of deserved.

Because of Sixth Sense, Flash is immune to Charmer
Even though he took effort to try to be conspicuous, he still startled the little fawn. Flash's smile would even to something more cool, not letting himself over-react to what she told him. It was almost amusing even, in his second year he had failed so miserably at not being seen. Since then, he had learned how to be quiet, how to conserve energy. He didn't like that it was bleeding into his everyday life, it was not something he was proud of.
"I can't say they have." Flash would say, attempting to add levity in the way he said it. At the very least, they could move past it.
She would manage to move on as well, explaining herself by saying that she needed to get her 'gardening fix.' To that, Flash would smile and chuckle, covering his mouth as he did so. He too loved nature, but he couldn't relate to a burning desire to stick his hands in the dirt, especially when it was unclear whether it would have any palpable effect. He knew there were many, his 'sister' Willow being one of them, who were enamoured with plants and wanted to be around them and keep them healthy, but it was amusing to hear it put in such a way. Flash was far too utilitarian to partake in any activity without a clear benefit, not to mention too tired. Even just thinking about doing gardening work he did not have to do tired him further. That, or her overly bright and exuberent energy.
"Yes." Flash would confirm her correct identification, pursing his lips for a moment, knowing that it confirmed that they had formally met. In the past, he would have never forgotten a name to a face, yet their meeting had been such a blur. He had no right to have been working on another ball in the state he was in, yet he pushed through it. Of course, the girl who wanted the flower stall, even then, she had been enamoured with the idea of filling the courtyard with flowers. "Oh. Miss Aly."
Far too distracted by his own social faux pas to mention the earthy foundation she had just added to her face, Flash would become more curious about her. He felt he had seen her elsewhere-- earlier that season, on the pitch. Unless it had been someone with the exact same kind of hair. Unlike during his second year, he had not had the mental fortitude to memorize all the players on each team. Still, when his brain began to connect the dots, he could swear 'Aly Salinger' was one of the Ravenclaw players. It was hard to trust his own memory.
"I appreciate it. For that, I got to spend the evening surrounded by beauty." He of course meant 'for her fixation on gardening,' which might not have been as self-evident as his inner dialogue would have him believe. "I adore nature as much as the next person, but I don't really see the point in gardening here. What's the goal, exactly?"
At ease, Flash would look around to appreciate this spot in particular. It did have a particularly diverse collection of colorful petals, all at staggered elevations. When a breeze swept through a nearby valley, the area would alight with the sound of rustling leaves. At this time of day, the shade was a heavenly spot to rest, so he would find a spot and sit down.
