Closed Meeting in the Grounds PV Callida Styles

Vittoria was anxious.

Well, Vittoria was always a little anxious, but that was certainly beyond the point.

Since coming into Hogwarts, she had a single friend. Just the one, and a family friend of all things, and it wasn't that Vittoria was super worried about how many friends she had, but when said friend was late to their semi-kinda-sorta-weekly meetings, she was allowed to be a little anxious.

Vittoria was waiting under "their" spot, even if it wasn't like they both owned it, but still. It was their spot! And normally Callida wasn't late- or was she?? Vittoria was having trouble remembering at the moment. Or thinking, quite honestly. What if she was actually the early one and misinterpreted the owl and now was spending all this time waiting because she couldn't read that well sometimes and just happened to glance over it an-

Vittoria made herself pause her own thoughts, eyes closing as she took a deep breath, focusing. This was okay. She could always look at this as a new opportunity to learn about this feeling, internalize it and maybe understand it a bit.

She slowly moved to sit down at their little corner, overhung by an edge of the building and some branches of a tree, making it nice and shady and protected. She could calm down! Yeah. For sure.

Maybe not.

Callida was kind of nervous.
Why? Anyone who'd met Callida would know that she was not the type to be nervous about anything, from exams to talking to strangers, to getting called out by the teacher. So why was she nervous today?
A simple reason: she was about to meet up with Vittoria.
And just who was Vittoria? Good question. She was a friend of Callida's, a very close friend actually. In fact, they'd known each other since long before Hogwarts, meeting because of the friendship between their mothers, who were both from Italy. Callida liked hanging out with Vittoria, partly because her father's position made it difficult for her to socialize with kids her age.
At any rate, she and Vittoria had started at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry together, but were sorted into different houses: Callida in Gryffindor, and Vittoria in Ravenclaw. That sucked, especially since their classes didn't really match up, so they hardly ever saw each other.
That was why they had decided to have a meeting at the Grounds every other week, so they could catch up. And that was where Callida was headed to right now.
As she walked, she wondered how Vittoria had been. Did she make any new friends? Did she skip any classes? Did she find the Ravenclaws nerdy? Nah, that last part was actually Callida's opinion.
Finally, she arrived at Vittoria and hers meeting spot- a little corner, overhung by the edge of Hogwarts castle and under tree branches, so that it was nice and shady.
And sitting there, looking worried a bit panicky, was Vittoria, with her wavy black hair silver at the tips (the result of one of her annoying brother's pranks), dark eyes and expression like she was trying to calm herself down unsuccessfully.
Callida moved toward her. 'Hey, Vittoria!'

Vittoria would be the first to admit it- she jumped, maybe made an embarrassing little yell. It was natural, okay? She was trying to calm down and then got startled and- Callida! Oh thank god is was Callida.

"Hey!" Vittoria laughed a little, immediately relaxing at the sight of her, slowly picking herself up from the ground, brushing her hands off as well as herself. Oh, thank god Callida didn't forget. She was always a bit worried that she would- after all, they didn't see each other as much, and she really couldn't afford to lose her only good friend here at Hogwarts, especially when she was such a good friend.

Vittoria subconsciously started messing with her own hair, trying to make herself look more... presentable? Callida always brought out that side of her, and not necessarily in a bad way. Pure-blood families were often unnecessarily fancy, so typically Vittoria would be dressed to the nines when she saw Callida, or, at the very least, be put together.

Less so at school. Much less so at school.

Vittoria often found herself meandering instead of getting ready for the day, just wanting to explore the castle and its history- but not in a weird way. Just in a...familiarity way. It was natural.

The Ravenclaw barely managed to pull herself out of her thoughts, and she reached her arms open, pulling Callida into a tight, squeezing hug, sighing happily.

"Ugh- I missed you so much this week. How have you been?"

'Fine, I guess.'
Callida hugged Vittoria back, squeezing her tightly. They hadn't seen each other for a week, not even bumping into one another in the hallways, and that was a lot to get accustomed to when you've seen each other practically every day for the past ten years.
'I think I still prefer staying at home, though.' the Gryffindor added as an afterthought. 'I mean, I guess the lessons are sort of fascinating... if you like sitting in a stuffy classroom all day, hoping the teacher doesn't see you staring out the window in boredom.'
So true. Of course, Callida supposed some Hogwarts lessons were pretty fun, like flying, for instance. Sadly, that was the only example she could think of. Probably because her father was a Quidditch player, and a pretty good one at that. Callida had learned how to fly a broom early on, and found it just awesome.
Even though Callida thought the lessons were so boring she could die, she actually still listened to whatever the teacher was saying. After all, you were going to waste all that time anyway, so might as well do what they want you to. That way, your school life is a whole lot easier.
She turned back to Vittoria. 'What about you? How's school life been the past week?'

Vittoria giggled, shaking her head a little. "It's been a hassle, honestly! I don't get why there's so much homework and paperwork to do in class when we're in, say, Potions or Defense Against the Dark Arts. I mean, what's the point?"

She sighed, moving to sit down and patting the ground next to her, an open invitation to Callida.

"I dunno. I mean, it's fun when we actually get to do things at school, but I don't get pointless learning. I don't want to listen to professors drone on and on and on for ages about the logistics of a spell- I would much rather just do it, honestly."

Her head leaned against a wall, eyes looking out to the rest of the grounds, almost wistful in a manner. What she wouldn't give to have free roam of them all the time, always able to explore and do things the way she wanted to in order to understand them better, if not best.

"Some of the teachers are... okay, I guess. I'm sure they'll get better as we get older and get to pick our own. Herbology has been an absolute breeze this year, but I don't want a breeze! I want a fun, challenging, engaging class, not a- a study hall."

’Yeah, I guess.’ Callida sat down against the wall, crossing her legs and staring at the ground. She really wasn’t sure what else to say to Vittoria, to tell the truth. It was a funny thing actually. You’ve dreamed about seeing this person for the longest time, but when you’re actually in front of them, you can’t think of anything to say. Curious how that works.
Callida was really getting bored, just sitting here and chatting, even though they’d only been here for, like, thirty seconds. She was just that kind of person. But she didn’t say anything about that, for Vittoria might take offense.
‘So…. Um…’ she hit her lip, thinking hard. ‘Oh, right! You heard Gryffindor broke Ravenclaw record for the monthly House Cup!’ She looked toward Vittoria, grinning. ‘We earned so many points, nobody’s won that many since ourselves in March of last year!’
She stood up, stilling smiling. ‘Pretty good, huh? Of course, I don’t think I really contributed much to that… But I can still celebrate the success!’
Callida sat back down against the wall, leaning against it and crossing her arms. She turned to Vittoria again. ‘So… What else do you think we should talk about?’

Vittoria rolled her eyes, the smile not leaving her lips as she scoffed. "Oh, c'mon! You know we'll be back in action in no time. We're getting our strategy together now, is all. We'll be on a sixth month streak before you know it," she teased, using her shoulder to gently nudge the Gryffindor, eyes sparkling.

She paused after, look becoming genuine, "Congrats, though. I know it's kinda really fun to win it for the month."

Her eyes flickered up, looking at the way the wind moved the tree branched for a moment, almost becoming entranced by it. It really was pretty, the way all the leaves flickered and blew in a wave-like kind of motion.

"Hm? Oh, I don't know..." Vittoria's eyebrows furrowed as she racked her brain for thoughts, ideas of things to talk about with her childhood (and still) best friend. Her fingers tapped on her thighs, head tilting to one side.

"What about...." she hummed, "Do anything cool or fun recently? I know there have been a bunch of events going around the castle right now... I haven't got the chance to check any of them out yet, but they do look fun to do for me!"

Callida shrugged. ‘They’re fine, I guess, I did hear there are several teams you can sign up for, like dueling or broom racing. I’m thinking about joining the Quidditch team….’ She glanced toward Vittoria quickly,’ Which, of course, is probably not surprising, is it?’
Due to her father being the famous Quidditch player he was, ever since Callida was little, people had expected her to take an interest in Quidditch. She didn't really mind. She loved Quidditch, which her father first taught her at age six. He used his own broomstick, which later turned out to be a bad decision. Thankfully, her father's broomstick survived the lesson.
Callida mostly just played by herself, for she had no siblings. That was part of why she was so excited about joining the team here at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
She got up, and started pacing around, cause this meeting was really getting a bit boring, and she needed to try everything to make it a bit less so.
‘So… What about you?’ She turned toward Vittoria. ‘Are you interested in joining any teams? Hey, if you join Quidditch as well, we might play against one another one day! That would be fun, right?'
