Failure to Follow the Rules
Issuing detention to @Haley Rose
You have already lost me and you have to realise that now. Simon I don't want to hurt you, just as much as you don't want to hurt me, but there's no way around it. I don't want to hear your hello, I don't want to hear that you care about me. I want to, like you, move forward.
Maybe someday it will be. Maybe in two months I will say hello to you, talk to you and tell you everything that has happened in my life. Maybe it will be in a year and we will spend time together like friends. Or maybe it will never be.
Those were the hurtful words spoken by Haley Rose in the Hospital Wing after their Potions Class incident. They were words words that he could not accept. Was that being selfish? Partially. The other way of looking at it was that Simon and Haley had a strong bond and that bond shouldn't be broken. It wasn't all selfishness. Yes, Simon depended on Haley and relied on her and trusted her with his deepest thoughts and feelings, And he wanted to be there for Haley and help with all her needs.
He had his slip already written and was prepared to give it to her come Monday before or after classes but when he saw her in the corridors that Saturday afternoon, he approached. He was glad to see that her reaction to the potion had gone away, as had his, and that she, physically, seemed to be fine. "Miss Rose, a moment?" he said as he opened up his bag quickly and pulled the paper he needed to give her out of one of his notebooks.
Yes, he realized the formality in his words but maybe perhaps they would give some validity to his authority and help her respect his decision. Simon held the paper out to her, directly in front of her face. If for some reason she didn't grab hold of it, there was no way she could claim she hadn't seen it and regardless of whether she took the paper or not, the issuance still stood.

Failure to Follow the Rules
@Simon KincaidWarning: Language!Haley had come through the injuries after the Potions accident well and had recovered, it had almost all faded back into the background and after Simon had left the room she had hoped that he had understood her and respected her decision. So far there had been no further clash and she was hopeful. Haley was just making her way into the Great Hall with a group of Gryffindors and their laughter resounded through the corridors when she was suddenly addressed by a familiar voice words. It was Simon. She gave the group a "this can't be happening now" look and nodded to them that she would follow in a moment.
She turned to Simon and exhaled in annoyance, "Why so formal?" she asked with a raised eyebrow and surveyed him. Why did he just not understand? Why did he have to address her again now after all? Why couldn't he nag his girlfriend? As she looked at him, she noticed him pulling something from his pocket and her eyebrows drew together.
She looked at the paper with narrowed eyes "Detention Slip" She gasped, laughed and shook her head in annoyance. "You're not serious." Simon didn't respond, still holding the piece of paper right in front of her face. She waited another moment but finally reached for it and now read the lines as Simon told her when to be where. "Fuck off." She whispered as her eyes skimmed the words.
When Haley read the reason, she was puzzled at first. "What?" she continued whispering but so softly that Simon could barely hear. February 14th. His birthday, Valentines Day and the day they broke up. She still didn't know what it was all about until the explanation came. "You really can't be serious!" Now it was she who held the note up to his face. "A BROKEN NOSE!?" Surely there had to be some kind of statute of limitations on that, he couldn't just come up with it months later now. "I mean, you deserved it." She shrugged her shoulders. "Are you giving yourself Detention too for breaking my heart?" she asked him in a sassy way with a raised eyebrow.
This meant war. Haley couldn't believe it but she held her head high. He wants it this way, he's getting it. She crumpled the note, tucked it into her back pocket and looked at him seriously. "See you Monday." Without another word she walked past him and pushed him out of her way with her shoulder. She was visibly upset, but she would not let it get her down.
