Notes of First Year Charms - Dancing Feet Solo

Mireia wasn't sure how she felt about Charms class yet. While any magic was amazing and awe inspiring to learn, and this was, of course, one of the first prices of official magic she was learning ever in her life, it did seem a bit - strange? Useless, perhaps? In the back of her mind, of course, she tried to see the bright side of it. But she was not a very creatively thinking girl - out of the box was not her fortay, as she liked to say.

They were learning the Dancing Feet charm. Although it was still exciting to learn anything really. She course easily see the practical joke use of the spell, but she wasn't much of a practical joker.

Professor Fresnel, in her lessons, had mentioned the spell was sometimes useful in duels, and even mentioned some uses of it in history where it was rather effective. Still, Mireia couldnt grasp that as, surely, there were numerous spells more useful during such a time.

Either way, Professor Kresnel had begun teaching the Dancing Feet Charm a few days into the school year, and now the students were practicing.

Mireia had not yet mastered the spell and it was beginning to get on her nerves. It shouldn't, though, as many - in fact most - of her classmates had not mastered it either. So she was not the line one out. In fact she had been able to make the spell work a couple of times, but not consistently.

She poured over her notes today in class, trying to tune out the sounds of her classmates mutterings around her. Maybe she was missing something her notes. Although, deep down, she doubted it. She had read through these so many times now.

At the top of her notes were the name and incantation of the spell, and just below a drawing of the wand movement.



The wand movement was exciting. It was simple which she appreciated for the very first spell she was ever learning. She was, likely more than she should, worried about the specifics of it. The Professor had mentioned that the wand movement being perfect was not as important for Charms as it was for, say, Transfiguration. But still, she felt the first curve was less deep than the second and it was harder than she thought to copy that movement in the air, where you can't see the path than it was drawing it on paper. It was this she felt was the main source of her problems, although the incantation was an issue too.

She mostly got the incantation correctly, but every once in a while she would accidentally say "Tarantella" rather than "Tarantallegra". Mireia didn't fully know why she did that, but mainly, she figured, it was because the syllables of the incorrect incantation matched the speed of the wand movement, wheras the correct incantation took longer to speak than it did to wave her wand.
