Small & Simple Question
I'm currently making a reply to a roleplay I am part of, and I was just wondering... is it okay to mention peeves getting up to his usual tricks while my character is on her way to meet a friend??

Sorry, but Peeves counts as a canon character so you can't say anything about him. You could say that you saw a faceless npc ghost doing something peeves-like (eg calling people names) if you liked though, as long as you don't go into too many details or name the ghost

Why can't he be mentioned? Like I don't understand why this site is so tight on NPC's that aren't used?? Help me understand. Thank you.

Because he is a character from the canon material (the books). On our site, you cannot be related to, friends with, or otherwise claim to know canon characters.

I'm not saying she knows him, just sees him being his normal troublesome self with some random students on her way to meeting a friend. It doesn't matter anyway, I'll change it. Thank you for letting me know.

For instance, Harry Potter is at Azkaban for the murder of Umbridge... because if Harry Potter were with us, we could claim that we know him/related to him/etc... and we try to reduce this. We want to encourage your creativity, and not to the creative point JK Rowling wrote about. We want you to develop your character without relying on the canon characters (Peeves, Harry Potter, Snape, Dumbledore, etc.)
I will say, spells we get are from the books, and the foods and stuff are from the books. We try to follow the book description on the Wizarding World, and the spells, but without copying canon characters. It's also a matter of copyright. World of Potter, for instance, used to be heavily with Peeves and canon characters, and also took money for VIP and certain things, so Wizarding World went against them for Copyrighting. So now you'll see the names are so unfamiliar onsite. Even Hogwarts is called "The Castle".
We are a nonprofit site. We mention them but we don't heavily use them. We are a writing site as well, so we try our hardest to encourage everyone to write and develop their characters. I have a ton of threads with Noah and my previous (deactivated) character, Cody Stevenson.

Small & Simple Question
Just a follow-up on here about NPCs and restricting their use.
We do not allow players to share control over NPCs because when you do that you have several different people responsible for the actions, behaviors, attitudes, interactions and choices made by a singular entity. We do not roleplay the same, this creates inconsistency. This is also exceptionally hard for the staff to manage in terms of history -- if multiple people are contributing in multiple threads, compiling what was done by who would be a full time job. There is also opinions on how that character would act and what you think is in-character for them is not what another would which would result in debates. Finally, this becomes a resource to develop a relationship with a canon character between yourself and the canon character that you have total control over. Suddenly that NPC is everyone's bestie or rival. It is why we do not allow any connections (you have no idea how many of you claimed before i asked for edits that you were dating Draco or that you were Snape's favorite).
So you control 3 things:
Your PC that you own
Your NPC that you own
Any other character that you have been giving explicit permission to godmod, such as a PC owned by a friend.
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
