The Common Rooms were unavoidably busy during the midweek rush. The upper-years were inclined to be territorial, so young'uns like Sage had to settle for less convenient means to get homework done in relative peace.

The library was one such place; it was some distance away from the Dorms but it did guarantee a hapless student their portion of silence. She’d heard from Sophia that the librarian had a pet snake. The fact couldn’t stop her from using the library, however. Failure to get at least an ‘E’ for a subject was a scarier thought, reptile or not.

On the contrary, the library was unsurprisingly popular among Ravenclaws, for whom a day could not possibly be complete without at least a visit, and bibliophiles alike. Sage thrived in the presence of books, seeing them as wells of information on a variety of subjects - if only to amass enough of it to trounce her older brother then all the better. That, and a curious girl was sure to have curious questions and all the answers must certainly be in one of these books.

The lanky girl strolled past bookshelves, skimming past a finger along the line of books. She wasn’t looking for anything in particular. If anything, she was too absorbed in thought to focus on homework at the moment.

A recent letter from home has piqued her interest lately. Apart from the usual queries upon her well-being, her mum mentioned something about a relative. It would seem that she had a distant cousin on her mother’s side! Surely it’d be polite to introduce oneself to one’s relatives. There wasn’t much to go on, except for her cousin’s name and that she was from France. Who knew her maternal ancestry reached all the way across the channel, huh?

Out of familial duty (and natural curiosity), Sage made several inquiries here and there. Asking about her cousin led to a couple of facts: she was a Slytherin, a fellow first-year and that she had a beautiful appearance. Someone had actually pointed her out one time, so Sage was inclined to agree with the fact. Now, all that’s left is to go say ‘Hi’, make some laborious small talk, and invite her out to tea. Except, the young Gryffindor struggled at socialising and absolutely dreaded the effort.

Something drew her attention to the gap between books and speak of the devil - the girl was right there! Sage averted her eyes, her fingers now clammy, as she reeled her mind back to sort out a strategy. Would it be weird to just approach her like so? If some stranger suddenly introduced herself as a cousin, she’d have some qualms, too.

Ack, what to do, what to do…

A COUSIN. Rather, two distant cousins that she had heard nothing of, knew nothing of, until her ever so darling grandmother deigned to mention in a letter that another side of her extensive family existed.

And what? Merely a week after that information was sprung unto her, she got another letter, from the mother of her previously unknown cousins that it would be wonderful for her to meet them at one point or another. And of course, as her family so often did, Rosamund Lilly didn't dare deign to mention the name of said cousins.

Nevertheless, it wasn't that hard to scrounge around and listen in the corridors during the passing times between classes. Rather, several well placed inquiries in the courtyard named her target (how peculiar it was to say that, however close to the truth it was,) Sage Lilly, a first year quite similar to her.

And with that in mind, Danaë ought to have gone straight up to her and introduced herself, but between the midweek rush and homework, and trying to figure out what to say, she had distracted herself so thoroughly that it had been a week of knowing who she was trying to find, and saying nothing.

At the very least, several people had pointed her out, so that was simple enough. But she had needed to go check out books and perhaps that thought process was enough, for she saw Sage browsing through a shelf. And with that being the same place she needed to go, Danaë believed that to be a peculiar form of coincidence.

But nevertheless, here she was, in the library, looking through a gap at her.

And then Sage startled, and Danaë, with her... ahem, lovely conversational skills managed to wave, and whisper (not mumble), "Danaë Corentin-Devereux," a pause, a moment to gather her thoughts into something resembling an ability to function properly, "And you must be Sage Lilly."
