History/Background Story: The stories Donald were told growing up were about witches and wizards. They focused on the eviler stories from Herpo the Foul up to Voldemort himself. The McCollums had many famous witch-hunters in their family tree and his parents were no exception. They focused on darker witches and wizards and though tolerated most magical folk, they never could see eye to eye. His father told him the tale of what happened to his mother, killed by dark magic user from Gryffindor shortly after he was born. Ever since then, his father tried to train him how to be a hunter. A common exercise was the use of a crossbow; not only is such a weapon effective against common magical beasts, but with proper aim could penetrate a lesser protego spell. Donald would win some youth archery competitions. He was a bit of a jock and would typically be one of the first picked for any athletic game. The dark witch or wizard who killed his mother is still out there of course. Donald's first magical act happened on his ninth birthday. A rude boy was teasing one of the girls and Donald looked at him with disgust. The bully's trousers flew right off of his legs, leaving him to be rather embarrassed!

Mr. McCollum was thrilled to witness his own son’s newfound magic and was so proud when Donald got his acceptance letter into Hogwarts. He received it from one of his contacts in the wizarding world. Not only could his son live amongst magic and get to know and learn about them, but he would be able to utilize their own powers against them and become the greatest McCollum Witch-Hunter that ever lived. He brought him to Diagon Alley and told his son about how the wandmaker refused to tell him about who owned the wand used to kill his mother. He learned it was because the wand was actually rotted and the core inside had died (refer to Olivander’s post if interested).

Donald met three people who sat with him on the Hogwarts Express, Shiawase, Colin, and Charlie. 3 of them ended up in Slytherin, only Charlie did not, a Gryffindor no less. Even if she would probably heal him in some way, that house was responsible for so much pain. He read a lot of the history books, and even though Salazar Slytherin was kind of a prat, he didn’t cause any nonhuman rebellions.
