Behind an oak-sized pillar were two girls squished shoulder to shoulder, trying their best to appear inconspicuous.

A bob-haired girl was peering through a hand mirror, fussing with the too-short fringe splayed across her forehead. Not that she cared at all about her appearance at the moment - they were on an important mission! It was time to make Kim pay for his pranks. Gone were the days they had spent ruminating about his demise - now, it was finally in motion.

Sage was perched in a half-squat to accommodate her petite friend, tilting the mirror so Kim was in view. Hah, he looked to be preoccupied with dinner. Brilliant.

Sharing a conspiratorial look with Sophia, she briefly looked up to the castle beams, the flash of russet plumes reminding her that Amelia, their avian accomplice, was waiting for the cue to swoop into action. Bright bird, that one! Sophia had chosen well, indeed. Sage ought to bring more owl treats the next time she visited the Owlery.

"This is it, Soph." Sage whispered, her lips pulled back into a toothy grin. For someone as straitlaced as Sage, this was probably the most exciting thing she's done - it sent a thrill down her spine, tip-toeing around like this. “We’ll pull this off yet! You'll see.”

The young Gryffindor would let Sophia do the honours - it was her pride on the line, after all. Sage watched on as Amelia heeded the signal. The owl flapped across the rafters, skillfully dodging the candles floating above the Hall.

She landed gracefully onto Kim's table, hardly causing the crockery to stir and clatter. In one of her talons was a cream-coloured letter. Upon unfurling the fancy letterhead, the recipient might detect the faintest scent of vanilla tracing the loopy cursive hand the amorous message was written in. Amelia, their feathered messenger, would remain at the table for a time to give Kim some… encouragement.

“Good girl, Amelia.”

Sage watched all of this unfold through the mirror, slate-green eyes eager to catch every single expression Kim’s face might give away.

Dinner was one of his favorite times.

It had to deal with food and Kim loved to eat more than anything else.

That was probably why he'd started up a cooking club of some sorts. He'd wanted to share his love for cooking with others. And also to provide members with the chance to not only learn how to cook and develop their skills, but to compete too. Of course, in a friendly atmosphere. Kim had set up flyers around Hogwarts and had also posted them on the bulletin board for interested parties to look at. The date for auditions was May 1st but he had to think a little.

To figure out how he was going to judge them. Also, once auditions were over, what would their first official meeting be like? How would it go? Kim hummed to himself as he thought about these things at the table. He took some meat pies, something he'd grown to love ever since coming to Hogwarts, and placed them into his mouth as he chewed on them. Reaching out to grab his mug, he downed the contents of the orange juice inside. It tasted awesome.

But orange juice usually tasted good with any meal, in his humble opinion.

It was around this time that an owl swooped in and dropped a letter in front of his face.

Kim didn't recognize the owl but assumed it must be from the owlery or belonged to a student he didn't know. If he had to guess, he would guess on the latter.

This owl looked too well kept for one at the owlery, not that the owls there weren't taken care of. It was just this one looked especially taken care of and loved quite a lot. Therefore, naturally, it must belong to one of the students. Kim picked up the cream-colored letter and unfolded it, seeing that it wasn't the color of a howler. The letterhead was fancy and he didn't recognize the sender. But the boy's nose picked up a faint scent of vanilla which was lovely.

Someone must know it was his preferred scent, as Kim himself smelled of lavender and vanilla most of the time. The contents of the letter were revealed and scribbled in some kind of loopy, cursive. He didn't recognize the handwriting, although for some reason it seemed a bit familiar and he wasn't sure why. Kim glanced around to see if anyone was watching him inside the room. There were a lot of people but no one was directly staring at him right now.

Hm.

Kim returned his attention back to the letter at hand and the owl had remained there too.

It was almost as if the creature was waiting for a response? But surely that wasn't the case, right? Kim looked back down at the letter and started to read, curious about who it might have come from. What was their purpose sending him a letter in such a manner? These questions were answered partially as he read and his brow furrowed a bit, wondering who the author was. At first, he thought it was Pax. After all, they were very energetic and quite active.

Hell, they'd ambushed him the first time they'd met before. The things that were being said in the letter made perfect sense to him if they came from Pax. But then, he saw the end of the letter and his brow furrowed in confusion again. Wait, your badger? Pax wasn't from Hufflepuff, they were from Kim's own House. And then, Kim's lips parted as he came to the realization as to who the letter had been from. No way, was this Stalker?! Surely not, right?

But at the same time, ever since the Ball he'd been strange...

Kim had even tracked him down to give him that flower crown he'd made for him before.

Albeit unintentionally. He'd literally made one for Stalker without even realizing it until it was done. And ever since that time, Kim had felt somewhat unsettled by him. Like he didn't know how to feel about him. What was this feeling called that he was feeling for him? Did it even matter? What did Stalker think about him? How did he feel about him? Was he messing with him and having fun teasing him because the Hufflepuff thought it was fun and amusing?

Or was it something more?

And another thing, why would Stalker have sent him a letter like this?

Did he mean these things? Or was this another kind of game he was playing with him? To see if he could unsettle him? Kim zoned out, as he thought about the meaning behind the letter.

Sophia watched Kim in the reflection of Sage's mirror - which made her feel like they were a genuine spy team! It was amazing! - and gave the predetermined signal to Amelia. This was it. The first big step in the plan. She had to throw on her best acting chops, because even the slightest crack in her façade would ruin the whole prank!

She watched Kim accepting the letter from Amelia - who did the most perfect job any owl could ever do of delivering a letter, ever! - and had to stifle a giggle as the boy seemed to look around before reading the letter. Was he confused, or was he embarrassed?

Regardless, the letter did something to the boy, because he seemed to lose all focus and awareness of his surroundings, not even noticing as Amelia was pecking angrily at his fingertips. Surely Kim had noticed the extra parchment attached to the letter? Hopefully he would get the hint, because Sophia had asked Amelia to not leave him alone until she received a response.

Sophia had to fight to urge to approach him and see the results of the prank thus far, but she couldn't give in just yet. She had to give time for Kim to write a response, so, instead, she smirked and gave Sage a soft nudge with her elbow.

"Hook, line, and sinker, eh?" she asked happily, "Soon as he writes a response, we should be able to make our way over there."

Yes. The waiting game continued, but now they had fresh entertainment!

Sophia felt a powerful sense of appreciation for the people helping out in this prank. Not only was Sage taking time out of her day to write a fake love letter to their friend, but she was personally witnessing the delivery of said letter, and Sophia was so, so happy to have a friend like Sage.

"You're amazing, by the way," she whispered to Sage, all traces of mirth and joking thrown aside, "I appreciate you so much, Sage. More than you'll ever realize."

Sappiness out of the way, Sophia's thoughts turned to her other friend: Amelia! The beautiful owl had obviously had reservations about pranking one of Sophia's friends so deviously, but she'd still went along with it. Even now, Amelia was continuing to peck away at Kim's fingers, gesturing with her small beak in the direction of the blank parchment. Surely he'd get the hint, right?

He didn't even realize the owl was pecking at his fingers.

Not for a time. It was only when she gave him a particularly hard peck that he looked down.

The owl was still there. It hadn't left and Kim tilted his head to the side. Why hadn't it left? The letter had been delivered, usually the messenger would fly off, unless it was waiting for a reply. Kim considered for a few seconds. Well, he supposed it couldn't hurt to send a brief response. He was uncertain as to what was going on and had no clue who this person might be. Well, he kind of suspected someone. But he had no proof of this, so he shouldn't presume.

What if he was wrong? Kim reached into his inner pocket and took out his self-inking quill that he carried with him everywhere. Just for emergencies like this. He glanced down at the envelope that the owl was pointing its beak at and finally noticed the extra parchment there. Ah, so the sender had even considered giving him something to write back with. How nice of them. Kim kind of wondered if he could have been wrong about Stalker being the sender of it.

This seemed too considerate for him.

But if it wasn't, who else could it be that he'd met from Hufflepuff and watched him?

To the sender of this letter,

I do not know who you are, would you give me your name? When it comes to confessions like these, I prefer to do them in person, not through letters. Letters are too impersonal by nature and feelings are hard to express in them.

They are fine between friends and family members, or to send brief notes. But when it comes to confessions, I will only address them in person. Also, public displays of affection are not recommended. I have no desire to get embarrassed.

Please meet me tomorrow at 4:15PM out on the grounds.

I will be waiting for you there.

- Kim

Kim finished the letter and rolled it all up, placing it into the enclosed envelope provided and handed it over to the waiting owl. He watched as it took the envelope and then flew off.

Sophia watched Amelia fly away with admiration in her eyes. She was such a smart owl. She'd done her job flawlessly, and Sophia was so proud of her baby girl.

"Now's our turn, we can check up on Kim and see his reaction!" she whispered to Sage. She bounced happily along, losing all pretense of coolness that came with their nonchalant behavior from before.

Just as the two of them - Sophia just assumed Sage would follow, she trusted her completely - approached the table Kim was sitting at, she smiled fondly at Amelia's retreating form in the distance. Thankfully, she watched the owls leave all the time, even before meeting Amelia, so it wouldn't draw suspicion. Kim knew she loved owls. She smoothed her uniform down with the flat of her hand, closing the distance between them and Kim.

"Hey Kim," she said nonchalantly, plopping eagerly into the seat beside him. She peeked over his shoulder toward the parchment and feigned curiosity, as if she hadn't a clue what was in the letter. "Whatcha got there?"

She reached into her robes and pulled out one of the perfectly normal teacups - which had been transfigured with some help to look like the nose-biting teacup from the Ball - and then poured a bit of tea into it. She personally was more of a coffee person normally, but the students at Hogwarts sure did love their tea. She slid the cup over to Kim's spot on the table and grinned suspiciously.

"Care for some tea, Kim?" she asked with mirth in her eyes.

The teacup wasn't one of the nose-biting variety, but he didn't need to know that.

Sage itched to know what Kim had written in response, but that would have to come later. Kim was no fun, he’d kept his face bare of most emotions and appeared calm throughout it all. But he wasn’t all ice, even Sage could pick up a little something there. She’d be able to tell better if they were a smidge closer, though.

The girl put her hand mirror away, replaced it with her notes and put on a neutral face. (As neutral as she could, anyway, Sophia had chosen that time to be a right sap!) Behind Kim’s pretty face was a well-oiled gear of a brain; she’d hate to have him see through her! One slip up and they were done. She couldn’t risk that, their mission was far from over.

Amelia flew away with his response, ignoring the girls entirely. If she ever got a pet, she hoped it’d be as smart as the little owl.

Sage followed after the redhead, appearing busy sorting her papers. She plopped unceremoniously opposite her friends. She chirped her greetings at Kim then made a show of shuffling her notes about, rubbing the side of her temple for added measure.

The moment Sophia brought out the cups however, Sage pushed her notes away and grabbed a cup for herself.

“Oh, just in time.” Her gaze slipped over Sophia’s motions, waiting for her turn at this elaborate scheme. She took a peek at Kim’s expression then: the cups looked identical to the one he used to prank the redhead with, and no doubt would arouse the same suspicion. It would look like Sophia was acting out of petty vengeance; entirely warranted, of course, had she been the one coaxed into making a fool of herself in public. She predicted Kim would be amenable to the redhead’s whims and Sage’s role here was to hammer it home.

“I’m parched.” Sage poured herself some tea, adding to it a dollop of cream and two cubes of sugar. The bob-haired girl sipped at her cup casually, paying Kim no mind, because these cups weren’t bewitched to bite off noses. “Ah. That hit the spot.”

The young Gryffindor sighed as she cupped her tea.

“Mind lending me your notes, Kim? I’m just all over the place today.”

Time for food now!

Kim was just about to grab some food when two familiar girls came up to his table and sat down.

Of course it would be Sophia and Sage. The purple haired boy glanced over at the letter he'd left on the table and grabbed it to stuff it into one of the pockets on his robes. "Nothing important but what is important is the food here! Fill your mouth with food!" Kim told Sophia and glanced over at the girl as she tried to push a teacup towards him. A teacup that looked suspiciously like the nose-biting teacup he'd given her before at the ball. Kim smirked at her and pushed it back towards the girl with a nod at the item. "Why don't you have some tea?"

"I already have some pumpkin juice inside my mug, so I'm good for now." Kim told her and glanced over at Sage. He filled his mouth with food from the table and downed some of the pumpkin juice in his mug before turning to regard Sophia again. "You going to drink from that cup, Sophia?" The purple haired boy asked with an arched brow. As Sage asked if she could borrow his notes, Kim nodded. "Sure. But I don't have them with me, they're in my satchel upstairs in the dorms. Want to come upstairs with me after dinner?"

He asked and continued to eat one of his favorite meals, the shepherd's pie. It tasted so delicious. Soon, Kim was done eating and went with Sage to head upstairs to grab his notes for her.
