Sunlight lingered in the chill fog that some Hogwarts days carried with them. Everything was washed out here, reduced in intensity, so that she felt her own presence fading into the mist. Hogwarts wasn't quite home to her yet, Though it was much warmer than her actual home. Mariposa got to do a lot of things that she wasn't allowed to do before, like wear more boyish clothes or indulge in her sweet tooth, and she talked to a lot of people that her mother wouldn't approve of.

Life at Hogwarts was freeing but it wouldn't be home for a long time. Mari shivered as cold air bit into her skin, and she knew that she should have worn warmer clothes, but she didn't want to.

Mari walked along the lakeshore, looking at the water hoping that she could spot the squid or any of the other creatures that dwelled in the lake. She watched the ripples in the lake, Mari stepped forward, the lake water lapped at her bright red mary-janes. She covered her mouth as she giggled and began to kick at the water, if her mother was here she would have been scolded and sent to her room, but her mother wasn't here, and no one was going to tell on her.

Mari felt silly… Doing something as childish as splashing in the water, doing something that other kids got to do was… truly Mari didn't know how to feel. It was freeing, it was fun her laughter had gotten louder as she spun around kicking up more water. And if her hair wasn't tied back with a forest green ribbon it would have gotten in her face. Her glasses were blurry with droplets of water, and for once Mari didn't care.

Her squeal of delight was muffled as she clapped her hand over her mouth. Mari was nearly soaked by the time she stepped out of the water she sat a good distance away from the lake, she tried to catch her breath, as she also tried to clean the water from her glasses.

Mariposa was thinking about all sorts of trivial things, chewing at her lower lip. It was getting colder by the minute, and yet she didn't want to go inside. She didn't want to stop such childish fun. Mari didn't know when or if she would allow herself to do something like this again. She knew that she couldn’t tell her mother about this, it would be one of many secrets that started to compile after entering Hogwarts. She was becoming quite rebellious.

Mari jumped up to her feet and jumped into the water, she could stay out here a bit longer and indulge herself. She looked around and noticed that very few people were out by the lake. A girl in the distance that was too far away, and since Mari had yet to put back on her glasses, the girl was too blurry for Mari to notice anything noticeable about her.

Mina walks along the shore and watches a girl splashing and laughing, she had done that just yesterday, without a care in the would and she had soaked that boy, Dexter, doing so. She frowns when the girl jumps back in and Mina step aside to dodge the water flying in her direction. She closes her eyes, the girl didn’t know she was there, and she had done the same exact thing to Dexter. All she had to do was walk away. But she couldn’t, her feet moved in the direction of the girl and she stops a few feet away from the shore, her arms crossed, waiting.

“Don’t let them bother, you, my shinning star.” Her mother’s voice filled her head, “Let it wash over you like a wave. You were born a witch, raised among the muggles, it’s what you father wanted, there will be others similar—” She shakes her head, cutting off her mother’s words, she was Mina Starr, she spoke the truth and only the truth, this girl wasn’t paying attention and she had almost soaked her.

“Mimi!!” Nate cried, “You are so mean! You sprayed me yesterday! It’s my turn to spray you!” Mina rolls her eyes at her little brothers antics, “Nate, I don’t want to be sprayed with the water, the bill is already so high.” Nate crosses his arms, “You’re no fun, Mimi. I didn’t want to get sprayed either.” She shakes away the second memory of her brother and watches Mari, waiting for Mari to notice her.

There was a girl waiting for Mari to stop playing in the water, and Mari noticed that the girl was close enough to her that she might have been splashed by wayward water. Mari turned to fully face the round-face girl as she put on her glasses. The girl was pretty, now that she no longer looked like a blurry blob of a silhouette. the girl had a nice complexion and Mari could value a pretty face. Mariposa knew that the girl wasn't in Slytherin, not that she knew every Slytherin but she was really good at remembering faces. What house is she in? She had the face of a Hufflepuff but the look of a Ravenclaw. She could be a Gryffindor, but Mari couldn't see it.

“ My name is Mariposa Meadows, you could call me Mari if you like.” She introduced, remembering the crudely censored book she had gotten from her mother. Nicknames were a good way to get close with people she paraphrased.

“ Hello?” It was more of a question than a greeting. Mari wondered if she did something wrong, if she did she had no problem putting her pride aside to apologize. After all, it was only ladylike to apologize when in the wrong.

“ Uh... did I splash you?” She asked, tilting her head to the side. Mari noticed that the girl looked upset. Mari stiffed, and her face went blank. She wanted to be nice and open, it was something that she was working on. but just because the girl in front of her looked angry, doesn't mean that she was upset at her. Mari did nothing that she knows of to warrant the girl's anger. And maybe being angry was the girl.

Mari twisted the water from her shirt. She sneezed when a gust of wind blew past her, stabbing into her skin like needles. Gods she hates the cold. she rubbed her arms feeling the goosebumps from under her hands. she wanted to go inside, and change into much warmer clothes. Would it be rude if she left? she didn't want to deal with negative confrontation if she could avoid it.

“ If I did splash you, then I apologize it wasn't my intention to do so.” She said softly, looking down at her water, and saw her bright red shoes disoriented in the water, hopefully, the girl would be kind thought to accept her apology. Mari hoped that her mother wasn't right about people looking down on her or any of her mother's teachings and beliefs. And Mari doesn't want to get mean. She wasn't a mean girl and didn't want to start a mean girl streek now.

“ We should get out of the water, don't want to get sick.” She said shivering slightly.

Mari began to walk out of the lake, once she was onshore, she took off her does and poured the water out of them. she could use a spell the dry herself off or she could air dry as any muggle would.

Mina pauses, backtracking, the girl was being nice, she didn’t have to be a jerk, she clears her throat, “Sorry, I didn’t mean toi seem rude.” Mina takes a few step back away from the edge of the water, tilting her head, looking at the girl, “Nice to meet you Mari, I’m Mina. Mina Starr.

No, you didn’t, it almost hit me though, but it’s fine, I know how one can get lost in splashing in the water.” Mina knew she was strange, she could be angry on moment then calm the next, this was one of those moments, “I do it myself sometimes too.”

Mina watches the girl shiver and drain the water from her shirt, she knew that feeling well, being cold after having fun in warm water. She retraces her step walking closer to the girl, “Hey, do you want my cloak? It’s dry and warm. It’ll help you warm up.

“{color=#da5100]Don’t apologize, you’re fine.” Mina wonders if the girl would accept her offer for her cloak, just like the girl said, neither of them wanted to get sick and the girl was well on her way towards getting sick if she stayed in the cold and wet clothes she was in now.
