Choosing a Wand
It was a fine Saturday morning and my father and I had driven to the Leaky Cauldron where we got into Diagon Alley and then the Gringotts Wizarding Bank to exchange some pounds into some galleons. We then exited the bank and went shopping in all of the stores that I needed to go to and halfway through our shopping, my dad said that he really wanted to go check out Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes and that I could visit some stores on my own in the meantime if I was up to it but I had to finish up by eleven. Of course, I agreed so he told me to meet him there once I was finished so I set off to the next few stores. As time passed, I checked out two stores from my list and headed into the final one, Ollivanders.Dave - fff79e
It was here that I was going to get my first wand and I really wondered what it would look like. I rang the bell on the counter and moments later, an old looking man appeared from the back of the shop. He came up to the counter and looked at me before introducing himself as Mr. Ollivander and asking me for my name and if I was getting my first wand to which I replied that my name was David Howard and that I was getting my first wand. He then walked around the counter and asked me to lift up my wand hand which in other words was my dominant hand so I lifted my right hand up. Mr. Ollivander then proceeded to take out a measuring tape which started taking all sorts of measurements of me and once the whole ordeal was done, he took the measuring tape back and exited to the back of the shop before coming back a minute later with a few wand boxes in his arms. He set them down and opened one box before taking out the wand and giving it to me, saying “Beech wood with a Dragon Heartstring core, 35,56 centimeters and an Unbending flexibility, give it a wave go on.” Just as I was about to follow Mr. Ollivander’s instructions, another boy came into the shop.

Choosing a Wand
@David HowardAfter the fiasco at Flourish and Blotts, and buying his Hogwarts robes in Madam Malkin, there was only one thing left on his list. His wand. Ollivanders was the best place for that, and excitedly, the Dempsie made their way to the tiny shop.
"I can go alone," Edmund stated to his father, putting an arm before him to block Theodore's entrance.
His father did that familiar hurt expression for less than a second, before masking it with a worried look and smile, hand on his shoulder, "Are you sure? Granny said she wanted me to get a photo of you with your wand,"
"Yeah," Edmund shrugged. "'Sides, you said it'd take a bit until I found the perfect wand. Can you buy me ice cream? We can take the photo later,"
Theodore sighed but didn't press. "Alright. I'll be here in thirty minutes,"
Once his father left for Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, pointy hat disappearing in the rushing crowd, Edmund found the courage to enter Ollivanders. Thousands of narrow boxes piled up to the ceiling, dusty boxes waiting for their wizard. He looked around... there was another boy inside; with long black hair and green eyes.
Edmund moved to the boxes, unsure if he should grab one, or what.
"Don't touch that," said Ollivanders, the old owner with white hair, which made Eddie move back.
"Sorry..." He muttered under his breath. The shop was so quiet even he felt embarrassed making any sound.
"Ah, you're Edmund Dempsie," Let out Ollivanders, smiling a bit. Edmund nodded. "I remember when your mother bought her wand almost thirty years ago. Is she well?"
"Yes, she's... she's in Portugal, so, I think she's doing alright," Edmund shrugged, and completed, very intelligently, "Uhm, I'm looking for... a wand, so,"
"But of course. Just wait until I'm done with Mr. Howard," Ollivanders waved and moved closer to the other client, motioning to the wand he had given the other boy. "Go ahead,"

Choosing a Wand
Even though Mr. Ollivander told me to give the wand I was holding a wave, I didn’t and instead focused my attention to the boy who moved to a shelf containing the wand boxes, looking like he was deciding which one he wanted to pick. I could see why he was doing this as this is what you’d do in any other shop, you’d pick what you wanted to buy and go to the cash register to check the item out. But there was one problem, this wasn’t any other shop and just as the boy’s hand reached for a box, Mr. Ollivander said “Don’t touch that.”. This clearly startled the boy as he quickly moved back and mumbled something. It seemed that Mr. Ollivander recognized the boy because he said “Ah, you’re Edmund Dempsie, I remember when your mother bought her wand almost thirty years ago. Is she well?”Dave - #fff79e

At first, I wondered how Mr. Ollivander knew his name, but then realized that he might’ve came here before with an older sibling which would answer my question, but then I started wondering how Mr. Ollivander remembered back when Edmunds mother bought her first wand and decided that they were either close family friends, or something special happened when Edmunds mother was buying her wand for Mr. Ollivander to remember it. While I was lost in thought, I heard the boy respond and looked up to hear him say “...in Portugal so I think she’s doing alright. Uhm, I’m looking for... a wand, so…” “But of course, just wait until I’m done with Mr. Howard.” Mr. Ollivander said before moving closer to me and noticing that I still haven’t waved the wand he gave me, he motioned towards before saying “Go ahead.”
In response, I quickly said “Oh, sorry sir, I was a bit distracted.” I then waved my wand, causing the wand boxes on the counter behind me to fly off of it. “Nope, definitely not that one.” Mr. Ollivander said as he bent down to pick up the long, thin, boxes that were now lying on the ground, one of which was open with the wand laying on the ground. I also bent down to help Mr. Ollivander pick up the wands, as did Edmund and in a few moments, the wand boxes were back on the counter and Mr. Ollivander had given me a new wand to try. It was made of Alder wood with a Unicorn Hair core, 30 centimeters, and a slightly bendy flexibility and Mr. Ollivander didn’t have to wait long for me to wave the wand this time.

Choosing a Wand
@David HowardBoxes flew off the counter at the boy's wave, and Edmund dodged them, eyes wide as he looked over at the other boy for a second before he helped pick up the boxes. He hadn't expected the wands to react like this. He had seen wizards casting magic unintentionally in family reunions, but it was never something this sudden.
It had him wonder if his wand would react in a similar fashion. As much as he wanted to cast his own spells and buy his own, he knew he had to wait, arms crossed, watching as Ollivanders handed the boy another wand, encouraging him to wave it. And he did.
This time, the wand visible trembled and lightning sparkled out of the tip, blinding, threatening to hit one of them. Edmund moved back. That wasn't good.
"Oh, no, no, no," Ollivanders reacted, snatching the wand away from the boy's hand and putting it inside a box before it could cause any damage to his store. Ollivanders stared at the boxes pilled up behind him and hummed. "Maybe this one...? 27,2 cm mayhaw wood and dragon heartstring," He offered it to the other boy. "Go ahead,"
Clicking his tongue, Edmund looked around, once again reaching for one of the wands. Making sure Ollivanders couldn't see him, he flicked his wrists, pointing to the pile of wands to his left. A jet of water sprayed them over.
"Sorry...!" Laughed Edmund, putting it back on its place.

Choosing a Wand
Once I waved the wand, it started to tremble in my hand and lightning started to spark from the tip of it and Mr. Ollivander quickly snatched the wand away from me whilst saying "Oh, no, no, no... maybe this one?" He then took another wand before handing it to me. "Mayhaw wood with a Dragon Heartstring core, 28,2 centimeters and a Whippy flexibility, go ahead."Dave - #fff79e

I didn't even have the chance to wave the new wand before a jet of water sprayed some wands in front of me. Apparently, Edmund had managed to take a wand from one of the boxes laying on the shelf. "Sorry.", he said as he laughed a bit while putting the wand back. Mr. Ollivander didn't look pleased with what Edmund had done and it wouldn't take a genius to know that as he turned to look at Edmund before saying "I told you not to touch that."
He then turned back to me before saying "Go on...". I waved the wand that was in my hand, causing it to shoot out of my hand, landing on the ground so I picked it up and handed it back to Mr. Ollivander who was already taking out another wand. "Blackthorn wood with a Unicorn Hair core, 27,0 centimeters and a Swishy flexibility, go ahead." I then waved the new wand he gave me and this time, I felt something flowing through my veins as my hair started to fly up as if it was being blown by the wind.
Then it stopped and Mr. Ollivander took it before putting it back into it's box and saying "Well it seems that that wand has chosen you so that will be seven galleons." "Wait, the wand chose me?" I asked as I pulled out seven galleons. Mr. Ollivander looked at me for a moment before answering "Yes Mr. Howard, the wand chooses the wizard or witch and that particular wand chose you to be it's owner." "Oh, thanks for the explanation Mr. Ollivander, and here's your seven galleons, and now you can start with Edmund." I then looked at the clock and seeing as it was 10:36, I turned to Edmund and said "And if you don't mind, I think I'll stay and watch you get you get your wand since I do have a bit of time to kill."

Choosing a Wand
@David HowardEdmund turned to Mr. Ollivanders, expectantly, eyebrows shooting up as he flashed him an eager smile as if to make the old man forget about the little mess he had caused in his store. Mr. Ollivanders shook his head, with a sigh, moving to the pile of boxes, hand lingering on top of one before he brought it to him.
"Of course, you can stay," Edmund said, turning to the other boy, already placing 7 galleons on the counter. He had watched and disturbed the boy's wand selection moment, it was only fair the other stayed to watch his, too.
"23,3 cm aspen wood and dragon heartstring," said Mr. Ollivanders, handing it to him with a serious look in his eyes. "For the good, capable wizards,"
Edmund felt the pressure on his shoulders, as he stared at the wand. He breathed in and grabbed it. Mr. Ollivanders nodded, expecting him to try and cast a spell - to give it a swish. And that, he did.
With a swish, a pile of boxes next to them came crashing down, boxes rolling down and stopping by his feet. Mr. Ollivanders complained out loud, to which Edmund nodded, handing the wand back to him. Three wands later, and more disaster - he had set the elm of his robes on fire, and exploded one of the ceiling lights.
Then, the frustrated Ollivanders handed him another one. Edmund was about to make a joke that maybe he'd need to look for another store. The old man said, "27,2 cm mayhaw wood and dragon heartstring, whippy, attracted to energetic wizards,"
Edmund carefully grabbed it, afraid of setting his whole body on fire this time around. What he got instead was the wind blowing on his face, as the tip of the wand sparkled, and something danced inside him.
"Well, I suppose we found the one," Ollivanders smiled.
