You're A What?  Solo   Finished
Part One

Situated north of the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle a family resided in a suburban home made of stone. The Thomas family operated as any other typical muggle family would, a pair of parents(perhaps not so typical) in the mid-tier financial class with a pair of children, one boy and one girl.

Meet Jay and Candice, the father and mother of the Thomas family. Their roles well established in balance for the welfare of their children. Jay's stern presence was fueled by his passion, counterbalanced with his charisma and humor. Candice embodied care and compassion, a consistent engager of her children's feelings and mental state. Where Jay would say what, Candice would follow behind with why.

Meet Jane, prized athlete at Royal Grammar school in Newcastle, praised for her talents as a volleyball setter. Though she occupied other parts of the school's athletic facilities as one of the top five track runners in her district. Much like Logan, she was positioned well to excel in athletics due to Jay's expertise as a professional soccer scout.

Lastly, we have Logan Thomas. The youngest and most eccentric of the four. Likely adapted from his father, an air of confidence flowed in his footsteps. Though not to border conceit, merely a boy that enjoyed the simple pleasures he was granted in life. The type to find a situation of bore, and twist it into a silly phenomenon. Yet unlike the other Thomas', Logan carried a secret. Unbeknownst to him, his talents were elevated to a plane the others would not readily perceive.

There was familiarity to be found for the average person, some may even consider the family mundane. Visuals many could relate to occupied the daily lives of the Thomas'. Textbooks and backpacks, sports whistles and green surfaces, craster kippers and pease pudding. The latter more relatable to the locals of Newcastle, a town only thirteen kilometers from the North Sea. The assortment of delectable seafood a comfort many would share in this vicinity.

Breakfast for the Thomas family came with strict expectations. The children expected to wake themselves at 0700 sharp to begin preparations for their day. Breakfast would commence an hour later at 0800, and for each minute a Thomas child was late, a minute of prized television time subtracted in the evenings. A fair trade and a common phrase from Jay, you waste my time, I waste yours.

For Logan, there was a favorable catch. He lived and breathed futbol, or soccer as the western world would say. Having a father that could relate provided a benefit. English Premier League games were not discontinued, late or not, and they were the only event the boy cared to watch on the television. Hence the boy's arrival this morning coming five minutes past the intended time.

As per usual, he raced from his upstairs bedroom to the staircase, vaulting himself atop the parallel rails to begin his slide down. "Logan's sliding down the stairs...again."His sister muttered unimpressed, nibbling at her biscuit. A strategic move Jane played to squander Logan's obsession with sliding, often occupying the only chair at the kitchen table with a view of the stairs.

"Lo, if you're going to hurt yourself, do it... Before his father could finish, Logan launched his weight off the rail to land on the carpet below the first stair. "On the soccccerrrr fiellddd....blah blah." He spoke with a giddy smile, brown eyes exuding his excitement that often overpowered adult backlash. "Or not at all." His mother stated plainly, turning the knob on the stove to begin reheating his breakfast sausages.

Candice walked towards Logan's place, placing his breakfast plate on the table with crinkled eyes to urge his approach. "Late again, Lo?" While not appearing displeased, her gentle stare searched for an explanation. The boy took his seat at the table, cool as a cucumber while he pressed a finger along his braids. "Oh mother, you think these braids are easy to maintain?" With a dumbfounded scoff, Jane motioned towards braids of her own. "Uh, hello? I wasn't late." Jane also had hair, it was longer.

"Lo for low IQ. Jane added in contempt, returning her eyes to her plate. To her right, Jay scribbled a note on a page of what appeared to be soccer formations, eyes glancing up to his daughter briefly before returning back to the page. "His math scores are better than yours at the moment." He spoke in a controlled manner, leaving Logan with a prized smile. "I was good at addition and subtraction too, dad." Jane bit her tongue to stop from rolling her eyes. "Don't dish it if you can't take it..." Jay pressed his lips to fight off ensuing amusement, looking to the wealth of breakfast sausages that remained untouched on Jane’s plate. "Oh my gosh, it's too early for dad jokes." Jane swiftly stood up and took her plate to the sink while Logan connected with his dad on a high five with a giggle. "Nice one, dad.

This back and forth would only ensue, though the tension always carried a flow of amusement in the Thomas house. Some days the roles were reversed, Jay preferred to team up with the child he wanted to motivate for the day. Logan's upcoming soccer match this evening provided this luxury, the man wanting to keep his son in good spirits for the big match.

Following breakfast, the Thomas family operated as a team to clean the tables and dishes, packing their bags and going through their daily checklists to see what goals should be reached for the day. As per usual, Logan was tasked to check the mailbox while Jane took out the trash. After acquiring the mail, Logan would sort through it as he jogged along the pavement leading to their front door. Humming "never gonna give you up" as he reached the front door. As he reached forward to open the door, he would pause when his brown eyes scanned a letter addressed to...him? Narrowing his eyes, he read as follows:
Logan Thomas
Smallest bedroom atop the stairs
1045 Cypress Lane
Newcastle,England
Turning the letter around, the boy would find a seal with a capital H. He swiftly reentered his home to find his family collecting their items for travel. With a sheepish smile, he held up the letter towards his father. "There's one addressed to me..." His mother perked a brow, turning to his father briefly before she rushed to his side to view the letter. "Well, it is yours, hun. Open it."

Jay and Jane approached from the rear to join Logan and his mother in silent anticipation. Theories of what it could be fluctuated amongst the Thomas minds, such as an introductory letter from secondary school, or a friendly greeting and a spot of cash from grandfather Timmins. Jay's posture tensed, concealing a brimmed smile, secretly hoping it was from a specialized futbol institute.

"Uh, Logan has stalkers now?" A cringe expression accommodates an extended finger towards the line that read Smallest bedroom atop the stairs. The parents would brush the line from their daughter off, urging Logan to remove the seal and reveal the parchment within. I think we all know what followed.

"School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...damn." Logan lowered his hand in brief shock before a bright smile consumed his visage. "What can't I do!" His mother swiftly retrieved the parchment as Logan began a happy dance, pointing to his sister. "Abra kedraba, your hair falls outah." Of course nothing happened, Jane issuing a death stare with folded arms while their parents closely read the text. "Uhm, Lo, what exactly were you doing on my computer all summer?"

Before the boy could answer, a pair of knocks arrived at the front door. Four heads shot up as if a raccoon caught in the garbage. Jay quirked a brow and shooed his family behind, approaching in a slow manner, turning the knob to reveal an older man. He donned a black cloak, short grey hair and eyeglasses that may have been considered popular in the 1970's. His shoulders rolled back in a confident posture, offering a pleasant smile as he motioned towards the home. "Good Morning Thomas'. I can assist with the ensuing confusion regarding that letter, may I enter?"

Jay squinted at the man."So this isn't some fantasy website where kids pretend to be wizards?" The older man chuckled with a dismissive wave. "Of course not, who would waste their time with such trifles." He winks at you.

The Thomas' allowed the strange man into their home, offering him a seat at the kitchen table with his choice of tea or coffee. He chose neither, holding the preference to get down to business. He would be the only one speaking for quite some time, documenting the history of the wizarding world and its intended separation from the muggles. The commonality of muggle-born students in the school, and how Logan is far from alone with his gifts. He would depict the castle on a parchment and give the family a look into the daily life at Hogwarts.

When it was time to start asking questions, Jay's primary concern was athletic programs for his son's continued development. Candice's fell along the lines of safety, and the development of skills that could still be applied to the real world. Meanwhile Jane would only dream of using Logan's newfound abilities to do her chores. All questions would be answered in sound confidence from the Hogwarts official (though skimming over the occasional fire or hags).

An hour would pass and the man would eventually leave the Thomas family to consider how to proceed. His parents would send Jane along as they sat the young boy down to discuss the sacrifices this decision entails. What he would lose: friends, futbol, family interactions and home life. Though the boy's mind was swiftly made the moment he read the text. Going away to school at a castle to learn magic fit the bill of any child's dream.

"I want to go." Logan spat out in the midst of one of his dad's long spiels about futbol and the value of continuing his development. A brief glimmer of disappointment was shown on his father's face, receiving a nudge from Candice. She nodded towards the hallway. "Your father and I need a moment alone, Lo." Candice led Jay to an area of privacy, leaving Logan tapping his toes at the table, fighting the urge to sneak against the opposite wall. His head occupied with a brief fantasy on magical spells to increase his hearing.

"He's 11, the decision should not be made by him alone. His skills on the soccer field would be wasted at such a school." Jay held his frame up with a hand against the wall, a frustrated tone breached into his words. "Jay, I love you, but futbol is not everything for Logan like it is for you. He doesn't know who he is yet. And if we take this opportunity away from him, where do you think that would leave us?" Jay shut his eyes with a deep sigh, bobbling his head in consideration while Candice continued. "It is not a decision we will allow him to make today, but the power should ultimately be left with him."

The conversation would continue for some time, leaving a restless Logan staring intently at kitchen objects in attempt to make them move. Jay and Candice reentered together, sitting across from their son. Jay leaned back into the chair with a painful smile, while Candice would reach for her son's hand. "We've talked it over, Lo. We want you to take some time to think about what this would mean for you, we still have a couple weeks until the deadline. But.." She nudged Jay gently, motioning towards Logan. "If you want to go, you have our support, son."
