Dear Ciarán!
School is going okay so far, though Slytherin still sucks. I know you said I should give it some time and try to make some friends there. You're right, of course, but a lot of them give the willies! Maybe it's just the dim lighting of our common room and dorms, but it seems like so many of them are --- I don't know! Like they're deep into some secrets or planning to kill each other or something.
Speaking of our common room, it is kind of cool. Part of it is right at the edge of the loch and there are windows under the water where you can look out and see whatever --- or even whoever is swimming by! There are Merfolk in there, and I've heard some kids say there's this gigantic squid that eats anyone who swims in the loch.
I'm going to go for a swim and see if I can find it. I bet it's friendly!

I don't know what's been wrong with me lately, Ci. I snarled at some Gryffindor kid in the corridor this morning. It's almost full moon. Maybe I'm just feeling a little alone and crazy!, right?
Speaking of feeling weird, a very strange thing happened. I saw a mouse in the courtyard, and I had this overwhelming urge to jump on it and catch it! And before I realised what I was doing, I ate it!
Ci, I actually ate a mouse! I hope it wasn't someone's pet --- I'd get sent home for sure. Hm. Maybe that's not a bad idea! I've been wondering if going to Hogwarts was the right choice or not.
Well, I've got to go now --- classes! I'll tell you more about those another time!
