Today was the day. It was a good day for Quidditch - a bit breezy, the sun poking through the scattered clouds. The air smelled of recent rain, but the ground wasn’t too wet - if Koko stomped very hard, it might have squelched, but since she always treaded lightly, it seemed quite dry indeed.

It might have been early in the morning, but Koko was already dressed in her Quidditch robes. Yes, this wasn’t a real match, but it was important to practise for the real thing - and that meant dressing properly, too. She wasn’t going to practise with a school broom, so she wasn’t going to practise in a T-shirt and jeans, however nice that sounded.

She had invited the entire team to the Quidditch training pitch in an attempt to make sure everyone, including herself, was in shape for their next match. They might have won last time, but Koko was certain she wasn’t the only person who didn’t want a repeat of Ravenclaw’s slaughter happening next time. Slytherins dropping from the sky… One might have said it was raining Slytherins. Not storming, either - raining, since the snakes hadn’t been able to do much about it.

That wouldn’t happen again. The team learned. They grew. They improved. They would prove they were the best. They knew that, of course; but it took proof to make other people believe it. They had the proof, anyway; it was in all the people who would be here today. Each one of them had strengths and weaknesses, and everyone complemented one another. The Slytherin Quidditch team was a team that understood each person in it, and that was a virtue that Koko hoped the other teams didn’t quite have.

Waiting for everyone else was important, so Koko sat down on the grass - which, thankfully, really wasn’t that wet at all - and began to tend to her broom, making sure that there were no splinters and that not a single thing was out of place. Once other people arrived, she would greet them with a warm smile and a wave.

Was Erin in shape? Hell yes. While her peers gossiped and spent their idle hours laughing or trading clothes, she ran the grounds as if she was being pursued by a herd of monstrosities. she would find heavy objects and then repeatedly lift them up and then put them down. She was utterly fearless and she honed her body in the same manner that her peers, well the nerd ones at least, honed their minds. How they ensured that they understood the world around them, or their potential arcane talent, she understood that a six pack was underselling potential.

She would arrive with her broom and her beater bat slung over her shoulder. She was not wearing any armor, she was wearing a pair of yoga pants and a tank top. Her long blonde hair was pulled back from her face, obviously finger-combed back and left in a high ponytail. She was ready to practice but she had no want to be weighed down by several pounds of armor when it was the rest of her teammates that needed the protection.

She had a large, red ball in her hand. yes, something muggles might recognize as a "kick ball" but Erin knew it as the "bouncy ball" for it had this rough, strange surface that gave way unlike metal and had this delightful bounce when it hit a target. There was this satisfying noise that was made when it made impact with a sufficiently unyielding surface, like an intended target, a wall or even the ground. Rock friend would have been a viable alternative one could suppose, but rock friend left too many bruises for rock friend was incredibly violent.

"Is it going to be just you and me?" Erin would announce as she bounced the ball against the ground. Training aint going to last real long if this is all they left her with. "Maybe you should get someone to drag you to the infirmary at least?" She was not particularly concerned but it would be a bother to drag her bloodied body to the medical wing for healing after she broke her nose and a few ribs for the sake of practice. She preferred to take to the showers after a game, not answer questions like -- why is she bleeding so much? Did you stop when she was unconscious? Meddlesome, prying questions that Erin had no real answer for. Unconscious was one of those states that it was hard to be certain of since playing possum is suspiciously similar.

Dan walked out toward the quidditch pitch. True, he was the one who called and clamored for a full on practice match, but since Andy left he'd... Dan was having major issues with being motivated.
Dan had to fight with himself every day to do ANYTHING. Classes were nearly unbearable now, and even Quidditch was hard.
He didn't know that Andy was this much of a motivator for him, but it made sense. Andrew Vance was his best friend, and the first he'd made at Hogwarts.
When he just up and didn't come back... Dan was devastated.

Thankfully, his team still had his back, and some would even drag him out of his dorm room to force him to practices.
Which was good, since Dan was not sure he would be able to go on his own.

The slightly wet grass slid under Dans bare feet as he came to the pitch. His precious silver arrow in his arms, he continued.

He saw that Koko and Erin were here already. Dan felt a bit bad that his depression was clearly showing to his team... But he was told by several people that pretending to be okay was even worse than showing it.

"Hey. Are ye two the only ones who came?"

Draven shouldn't have been there. In fact, he should have been absolutely anywhere else. Yet there he was standing on the quidditch field, broom clenched between ice cold fingers. His quidditch uniform fit oddly well considering how scrawny Draven was. He'd half expected it to be hanging off his frame like a sack, the fine outline of his bones visible through the thin cloth. He'd been wrong. The material was light and breathable, easy to move around in. Funny, it seemed like most of the things he'd stayed awake worrying about the night before had been conjured by his mind.

Perhaps he should have been worried. It had been his decision to sign up for quidditch instead of dueling. His decision to buy a broom. His decision to spend hours flying about the Hogwarts grounds, teaching himself how to command the thing rather than how to transfigure teacups.

He wasn't particularly good. But he wasn't terrible either. He'd learned how to sit on the broom, how to keep his balance. Learned which way to lean to go faster, and how to stay still even while flying at hundreds of kilometers an hour. He'd spent hours pouring over snippets of quidditch games, copying the players' stances and running simple flying drills over and over. He wasn't ready. But the first quidditch game was coming up soon, looming over the team. And what better way to train than to...well...train.

With the team, for once.

Draven hurried across the field, broom held tightly in one hand and bag thrown over his shoulder. "I'm here too." he said, giving the other three a pale smile. "I'm Draven. Nice to meet you."

If only the weather could be so nice on the day of the game. Rain and snow had been a recent plague on the pitch, and the moist ground below would be a reminder of how heavy the precipitation had been that year. Despite his inability to secure a normal night's rest, and the aches and disorientation that went alongside it, he was still determined to continue his Quidditch participation. Some of the team members may have noticed that Flash had started to wear an eyepatch over his mysterious brown eye since Easter, but it would be absent as he arrived. He needed both eyes to seek, even if one of them was cursed, it was still all he had for depth perception. Likely it wouldn't cause an issue, none of the people on the team who knew him before the change had asked what happened. While they worked well as a unit, the group weren't exactly like a tight-knit family, more like a corporation in the business of winning.

"No need to be so impatient." Flash would arrive looking tired, but smiling. Physical exercise helped him keep his mind off things, and anything he could do to help the team, he would. "I'm sure everyone is headed this way."

He would be half-dressed, the protective gear added to a casual and comfortable fit underneath. For the moment, a dark jacket and knit hat were worn on top to protect from the remnants of chill in the air. Even in spring, the Scottish lake would assure the winds had an icy bite. He had lived at Hogwarts long enough to see the seasons come and go, but wet and cold was the standard. He would have in one hand his broom, the Cleansweep 1, though he was planning on replacing it with a new one once he got the funds. This broom had not only dropped him over a cliff, but it was Koko's broom and riding which got him to the snitch the last game. If he was lucky, he wouldn't be in any more games this season, because ideally Dan would not be knocked out. So was the life of a second-string player.

Taking Koko's queue, he would also start to inspect his broom. It was the standard procedure, as taught in their flying class. He would be looking forward to meeting the new players, if they chose to participate. Miss Alexx and Miss Dancelos had resigned after the last game. Draven was a person he had a peculiar occasion to meet already, though this would be the first practice they partook in together. "Good to see you, Draven."

More people would start to file in. At least it was not going to be negligent homicide when she inadvertently murders this poor first year with her bludger. it would have been his own fault, she suggested a partner to drag him to the infirmary at the very least but still the authorities and Professors would likely not see it that way.

Erin would approach Flash. "Did you get taller or something?" She eyed the teen, yes the two colored eyes was not something she missed but that was not as noticeable as his stature, his bearing and a change that she had noted in his presence. She did not know him well, they technically shared a dorm as well as house and quidditch tam but their conversations were sparse and rare. Their longest conversation, perhaps a few minutes. She knew he ran in the mornings but in truth nothing more since he never shared and in truth they did not have the sort of relationship where she would know details about his life, it it intimate or mundane.

She would approach him all the same and attempt to grip his shoulders. If allowed (or he failed to evade) he would lean in and take a long, deep breath into the crook of his neck. It was not an act of affection but rather an assessment.

It wasn't long before Mr. Holmwood joined them. Draven's cheeks took on a slightly pink hue, cringing as he remembered the circumstances of their acquaintance. He hadn't overly embarrassed himself, but meeting one's teammate in detention wasn't exactly going to make a gold winning first impression. Especially since Flash hadn't exactly been partaking in said detention, he'd been there to...watch. "It's wonderful to see you, Mr. Holmwood"

Draven swallowed past the knot in his throat, going to shake the other's hand. Everyone else had started checking their brooms, tightening nobs and trimming branches, polishing handles and the such. Dray had spent the night before obsessively caring for it, but he followed their lead anyway, his fingers having turned white on its spine.

He hadn't flown in front of other people before. His stomach did a flip that would have made a gymnast proud as he surveyed the field. It was a beautiful day, perfect for flying. He had no excuse to fail. Draven pressed his lips into a thin line. Flash was the only relatively familiar face in their group. A second string, just like him. A wonderful flier.

For such a big team, not many of them had shown up for practice. Maybe it was just a bad day for most people?
