When Reality Catches Up With You
Date: December 10th 2021
Description: Alec is wearing a red sweater and a pair of ripped jeans. Since he's not wearing a hat; snow has decided to land in Alec's hair. His nails are painted a dark blue. Alec's cheeks are slightly rosy from the cold. The only item he is carrying with him is his wand.
Frosty air nipped at Alec's face, turning his cheeks red from the cold. Today was a cloudy day, nothing dreary but it wasn't as if the sun was staring right at you either. The third-year never knew how to feel about the cold. The winter season had it's place just as the summer season did. Ever since his parents divorce the aspect of the weather had been strangely hard on him. It was snowy out then just as it was now. A small thing that shouldn't have ruined the season for him as much as it did. He liked the snow in the same way he adored the rain. Alec never knew how to describe it, but there was something about standing out in the rain and just letting yourself get soaked in rain water. He felt like he was living, feeling something... Splashing in puddles and sopping wet clothes. Even if the thought of him enjoying it felt silly, there was little that could be compared to a rainy day.
Alec reach to pick up some snow of the ground with his bare hands. Picking up snow with his hands bare, no gloves, did feel like one a the few things that could have been compared. It was cold... If he held it long enough the snow either melted or his hands seemed to numb slightly. Like putting your hand in a bowl of ice. Alec threw the snow in his hand into the air. He watched as the snow more powdery than usual(I was currently snowing, of course it was going to be powdery) slowly and poetically fell back towards the ground. Alec thought it was quite the dramatic escapade for a small snowflake. Making it's way as the winds try to blow it elsewhere. Knowing where it needed to go, a job to fulfill, putting snow in the courtyard.
Little work was still important work. Important just like little things such as this outing. He needed a breather, where better a place to get fresh air than outdoors? Alec had been stressed for a while now, it was hard not to be. Winter break felt hard because of the divorce and he didn't know what was going to happen, how the situation was going to be worked out this time around. Over the summer he'd been at his grandparents manor. Would it be the same again? Would he able to actually go home... Go to his room? His stomach churned at the instability of it all, the thoughts his mind left for him to lay awake at night listening too. Alec was beginning to get worried that the idea of winter break was affecting his studying, and about everything else as well. A moment of peace in the storm? Everybody was rushing to get the work they needed done with Winter break coming up, imagine having to do homework on the holidays.
The third-year year took a deep breath in, and let a deep breath out, watching how the cold made his breath visible. Alec's tenseness melted away and he managed a smile. Walking towards a corner of the courtyard Alec brushed snow off the bench and took a seat. There he would sit feeling cold but comfortable. He would watch the snow fall, and the wind blow it ever so gently. What he didn't know as he sat there was that he was only biding his time, the seconds ticked, it wasn't long before reality would get caught up to him. And who was reality? Why it was none other than @Cassandra Ironwoods.

Just because Qudditch season was over for the year and a few days more they had Winter Break, it does not mean that they slacked off now. Running for them is like getting a cup of coffee before you start your day. It did not matter be it rain or snow today. Cash needs running to keep their body and blood functioning.
Like usual after they were allowed to let out of their dorm, Cash tied their running shoes and off they go. The only thing that Cash did not consider was how cold today was. Even though under their running outfit they already wore thermal heat suits and a black beanie covered their hair, still the cold wind of Winter nipping their face.
The green eyes ran around the castle until their lungs can not take it anymore. They planning to have a hot shower to warm up their slowly shivering body. Their plan is to jog back towards their dorm and lay a bit on their bed. then they will take that much-needed warm shower but their plan derailed a bit when they saw someone sit by themselves.
Who in their right mind volunteered to sit by themselves under this cold weather?, Cash thought to themselves. They squinted their eyes to take a good look at the person. If it was just a first or second year, Cash could ignore them and continued their day like they usually did. But the person was none other than Alec Mason.
His curly fries hair is unmistakable and can be seen from miles. Alec James Mason. The curly fries hair kid is Cash's fiancé. Speaking of that matter, Cash did not know whether the whole betrothal thing still going or not. When it comes down to anything related to Mason, Cash got reeled up in their head.
From the distance, Cash took a deep breath. They at annoyed Mason because it seems after the whole betrothal thing, the Gryffindor swept that matter under the rug, and Cash hated being kept in the dark. "Mason!"They cupped their hands around their mouth to amplify their voice. They did not care if others look at them weirdly.
To be honest, they are tired of this whole cat and mouse game around the engagement thing with Mason and they need to get to the bottom of this. STAT. The green eyes then jog towards Alec. Cash more or less know what Alec felt about them but they did not give a hoot whether Alec likes them or not.
Once Cash stood in front of Alec and swiped the snowy bench beside him, they seated beside the curly-haired boy. Cash then slapped Alec's knee like both of them are on good terms with each other."What up, mate? You good?"They said in Spanish. Cash just wants to lighten the mood but Cash is sure the other boy did not understand a thing that they said.
Cash could go all aggressive at him and cornered him into a corner to talk about the whole betrothal ordeal but Cash need took a different approach to approach the elephant in the room. Cash let out a breath. They can see the smoke that is emitted from their mouth. The green eyes averted from the snowy white ground to the blue eyes seated beside them.
"Tired avoiding me, eh Mason?"They said then looked back at the white ground again. "We both know that we need to talk about what happened last year,"Cash looked at Alec expectantly, hoping he knows what they are talking about. Cash could be bitter towards Alec because he avoid this ordeal for the whole damn year.
But if the young Ironwoods took that path, they never get the result that they wanted. "I am tired that we, I mean you avoiding what was going on between us,"They speak softly. Their heart is heavy. "Mother did not tell me anything whether the whole thing is still on or not,"Cash looked at Alec with unshed tears in their eyes.
"And I am sick and tired of people keeping me in the dark,"They continued. Cash was not usually a cry baby but with a lot of things going on in their life, sometimes Cash tired of being strong. "So please, please, talk to me about what is going on, Alec?"They uttered. It is a rare occurrence that Cash did not come snippy at the other boy or called him by his first name but the questions in Cash's head needed to be answered.
"And stop avoiding what was going on!,"They said rather harshly. "I am tired of this whole thing, don't you?"They asked the boy. Cash then leaned forward with both of their hands on their thighs, crosses their fingers, and see the snow that keep falling down to the ground while waiting for Alec to talk.

Alec could have stayed, watching the snow interact with the wind for hours. However, life never liked to give him more than his needed moments of rest before throwing him into the pits of chaos once again. Alec was so absorbed in his own world, he hadn't realized someone had come up to him until he felt a hand on his knee. Alec's body tensed and he jolted back in his seat turning to look at whoever not only dare to interrupt him but startle him as well. Alec certainly hadn't expect someone to walk over, let alone walk over and slap his knee and It didn't take the third-year long to figure out who it was. It was Cash... Of course it was Cash. The one time he chose to sit out in the snow, all leading to this, the most incredible mistake he could have made in a lifetime, letting Ironwoods show up. They said something in spanish and it granted them nothing more than a weird look from him. Were they trying to put on a show for people that might have been watching? Were other people even looking? He hoped not. Honestly he didn't understand the post of any of this, but he knew the situation wasn't going to get any better.
"Tired avoiding me, eh Mason?"
Alec grimaced upon hearing the use of his last name, and he directed his gaze elsewhere. He wouldn't expect Cash to know his preferences when it came too staying away from his last name. It wasn't one of those things that's made obvious to a person when you're avoiding them, but admittedly, it still stung. His lips pursed, and he looked out on the courtyard. He was silent as he watched the snow fall.
"We both know that we need to talk about what happened last year,"
Alec shifted uncomfortably under the weight of Cash's stare, able to feel their eyes on him. Last year had already passed. It'd been some time... It was closer to two years than one. Still he wasn't arguing logistics if he knew he understood the sentiment.
A sentiment that made Alec feel like not responding, and considering the fact that Cash looked like they had more to say, it was an amazing excuse. At least he knew why Cash was here now, even if he'd decided he would have preferred to not know. He preferred to stay away from this conversation, he preferred to stay away from the situation all together. The more he distanced himself the smaller as problem seemed to get. He'd gone on this long avoiding and ignoring, he would not be changing his tactics now.
Cash said they were tired of Alec avoiding it, and Alec could only repeat his earlier thoughts internally. With the added bonus of the way the sentence sounded and the worry that with word choices. Alec wanted to melt into the floor and disappear. Why, why was that your choice of words? Ironwoods, you could have picked anything else. Now you've successfully made it sound like there's something going on. There's not! There is, still it's not the way you're making it sound! And a why 'would you do this here?' could the interrogation not have happened anywhere else?
Cash said they didn't know if the engagement was still a thing or not and that their mother hadn't said a word. They were tired of being kept in the dark. Alec wasn't sure how to react, not to mention he realized the interrogation meant he had no choice in the matter of replying or giving answers. It added onto Alec's own frustrations, with the feeling of being cornered and pressured into answering.
"So please, please, talk to me about what is going on, Alec?"
“I-” Alec started, his voice a quiet whispered. In his current situation it felt like his brain had given up on him. He had no idea whether he should be giving in and trying to give answers or even at this point just trying to ignore Cash. It didn't help that seconds later he realized he must not have been loud enough to hear when Cash had more to say.
"And stop avoiding what was going on!, I am tired of this whole thing, don't you?"
There was that trapped pressured feeling again, Alec did not like it, not one bit. “... I don't- I-” Alec was fumbling through his words, unable to get out a sentence much less a proper answer or full on reply. Cash had appeared out of nowhere, interrupting a quiet moment and invading his personal space. He didn't have enough time to have the feeling of shock wear off before he was being asked for answers. He couldn't even have given answers if he'd wanted too, and suddenly everything felt like too much. Alec had come outside to get away, not to end up in situation like this, he didn't want to deal with this, he just-
“I have- I have to go.” All he knew was that he needed to get away. He didn't think he could handle a conversation with Ironwoods right now, he certainly wasn't going to attempt it. Alec got up from the bench, making haste to walk, to leave.
Alec will be exiting the thread unless somehow stopped

It feels like an eternity for Cash to wait for Alec to answer any of the string of questions that the green eyes had flung towards the curly-haired boy. Perhaps Cash picked the wrong place and the wrong time to confronted the Pride of Pendrast Duellist. But between Duelling matches and practice (on Mason's part), Qudditch matches and practice (on Cash's part), also with the never ending school work between the third year, Cash had no other chance to confronted Alec except today.
And since both the Duellist and Quidditch player did not run on the same circle, Cash thought there was no time like the present. So, Cash grabbed the moment by its tail. Cash took a deep breath to calm their inner turmoil. Their heated body since they have just done running around the campus, gradually cool off because of the Winter Scottish Highland wind.
The soft lulled and howled of the Winter wind did not help them either. Cash waited and waited in silence until they heard a small voice emitted from Mason. His voice was barely above a whisper. When they heard it, they shifted their gaze from the white snow that covered the ground to the boy beside them.
Cash raised both of their eyebrows as a sign for Alec to go on. Cash thought they have chosen the right way. Treating whatever ordeal between them and Mason with careful steps. But when Mason fumbled with his words, Cash knew that feeling all too well. The feeling of being cornered, pressured and trapped.
At this moment, the young Ironwoods did not give two hoots if Mason end up hyperventilated or passed out on the cold snowy ground. They needed an answer. And they needed it now. But what Mason did next, was not something the Cuban descent thought the lion would do. “I have- I have to go"The Duellist said as he get up from the bench and make a hasted exit.
Seeing what Mason did, their heart dropped to their stomach. Anger, hurt, pain, and all other feelings that can not explain are molded into one. Had they not opened their heart enough to make Mason hear the desperation and the plea that latched in their voice? Cash can not believe that Mason could be so cruel.
But then again Cash knows next to nothing about the other third-year except both of them bounded to be together when their age is old enough to marry each other. Not by choice on both of the involved parties. Cash took a deep breath. Their anger slowly bubbles inside of them and then turns into rage.
A pure rage for the Duellist. Cash then gathered some snow in their hands and make it into a round shape and compacted it until it is rock solid. When the young socialite deemed the snowball solid enough, they throw it to where Mason makes his hasty exit. "What a joke you are, Mason!"Cash screamed out their pain as they make another snowball and pelted Mason with all their might.
"You are a Duellist and yet you can not face the problem that lies in front of you!"Cash bent down, make another snowball, and slung it towards Mason. "Home of the brave and chivalry, mi culo my ass! "The green eyes make a mean jab about Alec's house. "No wonder your mother left you, Mason!"The green eyes expressed as another snowball meets the air.
"You are nothing but a coward and a fraud. If I were her, I will be embarrassed to call you as my flesh and blood either,"Cash threw one last rock-solid snowball at the Duellist. Truth be told, Cash did not know how Alec's home situation was right now as of this moment. They said mean things and words without thinking it through. Their only goal is to hurt Mason just like how he hurt them.

When Reality Catches Up With You
The feeling of being trapped in a situation was inescapable. Overtaking as if it were a sudden struggle for his breath. He wanted too leave. He planned to leave. Taking quick strides to the other side of the courtyard, to go back in the castle. Cash was wrong, Alec would never be tired of avoiding them, or the 'situation' and whatever else was going on. He could spend his time carefree, and... then Alec felt a snowball hit him in the back. The confusion was enough to make him pause. Unluckily for him, his pausing was the act that allowed him to hear the commotion going on behind him. The insurmountable reaction from Cash that was yelling at him, and of course adding snowball to the mix as if that somehow made sense. Snowballs were a child's game.
"What a joke you are, Mason!"
You only realized this now? Alec had impossible odds stacked against him from the start, unreasonable expectations, unfathomable really, no wonder he and practically his whole life was a joke when he'd been expected to get into Slytherin. What havoc that wrecked when he didn't. Everything from then on could only lead to a downward spiral, all in dear time. Another snowball hit him interrupting his thoughts. Bloody hell, this is why pausing was a no-go in the first place, Alec sure didn't appreciate being pelted in the back with snowballs.
The third-year turned out, arms out in frustration. He was so tempted to yell at them, tell them to stop throwing snowballs and just leave him be, he could care or less about the insults. Why did Cash need to go around ruining what could have been a perfect afternoon?! Alec's arms fell to his sides, and he huffed out a breath of air, shaking his head before turning around and continuing walking. Ignore Cash, their looking for a reaction out of you.
"You are a Duellist and yet you can not face the problem that lies in front of you!"
You are the problem, and I cannot face the problem constructively! Would you like me to yell at you? Alec retorted back, only in his head. Not the nicest words, which is exactly why he wasn't saying them out loud, they were bad. He felt like he was trying to be reasonable with his walking away. It's not like he'd be able to say anything Cash wanted at the moment anyway. He was being responsible, not subjecting any possible creeping bystanders to whatever issues he had, whatever issues the two of them had.
Alec wanted to erase the sentence in his head the second it had appeared, the second he realized what it had meant, what this whole situation reminded him of, his parents.
Another snowball...
"Home of the brave and chivalry, mi culo!"
"No wonder your mother left you, Mason!"
and another...
No doubt Cash's words were going to be ingraved in his brain long after the situation, as of now, he was doing his best to ignore the words and Cash, to walk, and to leave.
"You are nothing but a coward and a fraud. If I were her, I will be embarrassed to call you as my flesh and blood either,"
He felt another snowball hit him and stopped walking.
Alec leaned down packing a snowball in his hands and turning around.
He looked like he was genuinely going to throw it and then he didn't. He didn't throw the snowball , instead he put his arms up in the air where he held onto the snowball, almost in a form of surrender. “Have you had your fair share of throwing snowballs at me yet?” Alec asked, his voice was laced with frustration, anger, his voice was loud, close to shouting.
His anger and frustration, the feeling of being slightly pestered and trapped by Cash, annoyed with them for a multiple of reasons he rather not relay out loud, all of it fizzled out instantaneously. Alec frowned, and let out a sigh. His arms dropped to his sides and he opened his hand to introduce the snowball he was holding to something called gravity, and letting it drop to the ground. Alec looked up from the terribly sad grave of his snowball to Cash, his frown widened.
The young teen was rather insecure and facing a person whose words could be summed up too 'no wonder people want to leave you. I would. Exactly like your mother did.' Only to echo Wyatt's own words 'No wonder your mother clearly wants nothing to do with you.' Didn't make Alec feel any good. Because perhaps they were both right. Though his mother had been practically forced to leave, it wouldn't be far off if he were to make the assumption that it was all his fault. His mother had never particularly liked him to begin with, and considering he failed to meet expectations time and time again, it wasn't too far of a stretch. The divorce being his fault, if he could have done better, been better, maybe if he had gotten into Slytherin like they wanted, none of it would have happened.
Friends are biased, it wouldn't count to walk up to Wyatt and ask if he still thought that now. Nothing to ease the thoughts nagging at him, pushing and pulling at him leaving him helpless.
His eyebrows furrowed and his slightly dazed gaze snapped to attention. Right, Cash, everything here reminding him of his parents own relationship. What a mess that was... and what a sickening feeling it was giving him now. Alec's eyes met Cash's own, “let's just stop... Okay?” His voice was softer, quieter than before. “Stop the snowball throwing and the -the yelling.” -and the arguing destined to come. “I -I don't want to throw a snowball back at you or say anything I'm going to regret.” The first one was a white lie, he did want too throw a snowball at Cash, but he was not going too.
“Ironwoods, I just- I can't-” Alec seemed frustrated, not being able to properly articulate himself. He wanted to say he could not have this talk right now. He wasn't over processing stuff the had happened the same year, and he had to think about it relative to the answers Cash required. Still, Alec didn't know if that was ever going to change, ugh his brain wasn't going to be nice to him after but Cash was getting upset, and they deserved some kind of answer. “Fine.” Alec ran a hand through his hair trying to brush the snow out of it to the best of his ability. “I'll- we'll talk. Not here though,”
“Just um... Give me thirty minutes, at least.” Alec would have preferred a day or two in advance with the heads up, however he was taking what he could, a few days seemed like pushing it. “In the meantime you should probably prepare a list of questions in your head, and come up with a more isolated spot to talk.” Anywhere away from a place where people had the possibility of hearing. What happened already was bad enough as is.
“I would say you go look for a spot but maybe it's not the best idea.” Alec still felt like making a run for it, perhaps drop out of school and join a travelling circus. Alec folded his arms across his chest, he was doing this, he said yes. He wasn't allowed to run off. Though at least he could make up the terms, like this one, “also If I don't want to answer a question, I will not be answering it.”
With that said he walked past Cash, he thought he was being reasonable, they wanted answers? They had to work with him then... Alec walked towards the bench he'd been sitting earlier and took a seat. He needed thirty minutes to calm down. Alec had agreed to work with them, but agreeing to work with them didn't mean he was happy and everything was great now. He was incredibly angry and frustrated, and the whole situation was making him think rather illogically, hence the thirty minutes.
